Our wish list
This section is designed to address the charity's ongoing need for suitable volunteers to carry out valuable work in specific areas and/or locations. There are also many items we would be very grateful to receive.
If you think you can help, simply send us an email saying what type of help you are able to offer and any relevant previous experience you may have. Your email will be forwarded to the appropriate contact, who will be in touch with you.
It woud be very helpful if you can include a telephone contact (preferably landline) number in your email response. Many thanks!
Items Needed
A van for use in the Gloucester area
If you don't ask you don't get!
The Gloucester area are in desperate need of a van to help with our work. A van is needed to transport our dogs between the kennels and the vets, as well as moving dogs to safety from different parts of the country, so the need is great!
Is there a generous benefactor out there who can help by donating a van to help us with our essential grass roots work?
If you can help then please get in touch at enquiries@grwe.com or 07000 785092.
Thank you!
Fleecy material needed!
We have lots of donated duvets which we would like to make up into dog beds to sell.
If anyone has some large lengths of fleecy material suitable for making up into dogs beds please could they let us know at enquiries@grwe.com
Tombola items
The fundraising season is upon us and our Tombola is always massively successful.
We do need a large volume of prizes to keep things ticking over - for us to avoid spending any of our funds on buying the prizes, we'd be grateful for some donations.
Toiletries, confectionery, stationery, bottles (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are always popular, as welll as other items.
Please remember GRWE when you are shopping, and are tempted by those BoGoF deals! Or if you have unwanted presents at the back of the cupboard we can always make use of them. Of course you can always donate or post store vouchers to us which we can use to purchase tombola items, at no cost to us!
Please bring anything you have along to any events you are attending - they will be gratefully received.
Thank you
Coats, muzzles, collars and leads
The nights are drawing in and its time to snuggle our kennel dogs down in their warm coats and keep them drught free. We get through so many coats throughout the winter as they become damaged, and so we are always grateful for replacements. Please get in touch if you have any spare or could make us some!
We also really need some collars, leads and some muzzles..........do you have some you no longer want?
We re-home every dog with a muzzle and sometimes our kennel leads get taken home too! Its expensive to have to re-stock them so if you no longer need your muzzle for your dog, or have some spare collars and leads then we would be really grateful for them.
Gold for Greyhounds
Do you have unwanted gold jewellery taking up space in your jewellery box? Odd earrings, broken chains and bracelets or just things that you don't wear anymore?
GRWE is asking supporters to donate old, broken and unwanted pieces of gold which can be sold for money and the proceeds donated to GRWE. Old broken earrings or chains may be worthless on their own but as part of a collection of scrap gold they would provide GRWE with much needed funds.
So please think of us when going through your jewellery collection, this is a great way for GRWE and our needy hounds to benefit from your kind donation.
Any unwanted gold jewellery can be sent to: GRWE, PO Box 4243, Radstock BA3 3ZL. We recommend that you post using 'recorded signed for' service.
Please mark your envelope Treasure Chest Fund.
Many thanks
Wool Needed!
One of our volunteers in Lancashire is knitting snoods to keep hounds warm and sell to other hounds owners to help raise funds for GRWE. We are very dependent on donations of wool to keep our costs low and ensure all the profits from the sale of the snoods goes directly to the greyhounds.
Our wool stocks are now depleted and we are putting a call out to see if anyone out there could donate some wool to us - double knit or above is what we need.
Can you help?
enquiries@grwe.com.
Thank you.
Harnesses
We love to use harnesses for our more nervous dogs as it means we can keep them safe. Anyone who has ever had a wriggling greyhound on the end of a lead will know how easy it is for the collar to slip over their heads! Harnesses give much more control, and we can always make great use of them.
We would dearly love some harnesses to be donated to us. We get through them quite quickly so if anyone is able to donate some harnesses we would be most grateful. All sizes are welcome as our dogs come in a variety of different shapes!
Duvets and Blankets
In winter it's always cold for our hounds and the dogs in the Herts/Bedfordshire kennels would really appreciate any spare duvets or blankets that you give us.
If you can help us PLEASE get in touch so we can find the best way to get them to us.... enquiries@grwe.com Many thanks!
Coats Needed...
We are always in need of greyhound coats to keep our dogs warm and snug in the winter. We know that summer is upon us, but we like to build up our supplies ready for winter.
Waterproof ones are best of course, but we are grateful for any coats which you might be able to donate.
We can also make use of collars, leads, and any muzzles which you might not need, so please take any items along to any of our GRWE events, or contact enquiries@grwe.com to find out the best way of getting them to us.
Agility Equipment
The Somerset kennels are looking for a kind benefactor to donate some agility equipment! We would love our dogs to have some extra stimulation whilst in kennels waiting for their forever homes to come along, so if someone has some agility equipment, which they no longer want, we would be delighted to receive it. If you can help then please send us a message via: enquiries@grwe.com. Thanks!
Display Board Photographs and Stories...
We are in the process of updating our display board material and would love to hear from you if you have good photographs of your rescued hound which we could use.
Please include your rescue story to accompany the pictures so that we can show how you changed your dog's life, and possibly how he or she has changed your life too!
Please forward your submissions to the address below. You can either send original photographs (which will be returned to you if you enclose a stamped SAE), or you can scan the images and send them on a CD.
Either way be sure to include your articles with the photographs!
Please post to: Greyhound Rescue West of England, PO BOX 3695, BATH, BA2 8XJ or email them to enquiries@grwe.com

We have found some willing helpers to make some santa suits for our greyhounds to wear for Christmas fundraising................so now we need to find some fabrics!
We are looking for some red fleecy fabric, and some white fur trim to be made into super santa outfits......can anyone help?
* The Santa suits proved HUGELY successful for our Christmas fundraising projects ! Having dogs dressed up in snuggly santa suits kept them warm and really drew in the crowds, so thanks to everyone who helped with this project.
Please keep your eyes peeled now in the sales for red fleecy fabric and trim so that we can make up more suits for 2010 fundraising ~ yes we are that organised! *
Help Needed
Display a Homing Poster!
Can you help us find homes for our hounds?
If you are able to help GRWE promote greyhounds and lurchers for homing by displaying a homing poster in your area, please contact us via enquiries@grwe.com to request a poster.
Please ensure you provide your full name and address as well as the number of posters that you would like to be sent. Thank You!
Volunteers
Volunteer with GRWE and make a real difference!
GRWE is a registered charity and the largest independent greyhound and lurcher rescue organisation in the UK. We find caring, permanent homes for over 800 greyhounds and lurchers each year. However, we could not do this without the support of our valued volunteers, all of whom play a central role in our rescue and rehoming work by donating their time, skills and energy to support the charity.
We currently have a number of voluntary roles throughout the UK, with lots of opportunities to build new skills, meet new people and gain valuable experience, while volunteering with a national animal welfare charity. Roles range from home checker to press officer, cat tester to trustee!
Please take a look at our volunteering page and, if you think you have relevant experience and time to dedicate to one of these roles please get in touch, we would love to hear from you because as a GRWE volunteer, you really will be making a difference!
