Homing enquiry

To send us an enquiry about rehoming one or more of our dogs, please use the Homing Enquiry form below to tell us a bit about yourself and any key details about your home situation, e.g. any children, other pets, flat or house etc. Then simply add your details and hit 'Send'.

A member of the GRWE rehoming team will contact you to discuss your enquiry. Please be patient and remember that we are all volunteers. Thank you!

To enquire about homing a dog, please call us on 07000 785 092 or submit the homing enquiry form, found on the left of this page.

The dogs shown here are a selection of the many dogs in our care at any one time across England & Wales. The dogs available for rehoming change on a daily basis and, while we try to keep our website as up to date as possible, the specific dogs shown may already have found their new home.

We assess all our dogs carefully and aim to give as much information about them in order to match the right dog to the right home. All prospective homes will receive a home visit, to ensure that the home is suitable for one of our dogs and as an opportunity for prospective owners to ask any questions. A post homing visit will take place 4 months after the dog has been re-homed, to make sure that the dog is healthy and happy in their new environment. New owners will also have access to our Post Homing Support team, who are qualified in dog behaviour and can assist with any issues experienced.

Our dogs are neutered, fully vaccinated, wormed, flea-treated, micro-chipped and receive dental treatment (if required). They also come with 4 weeks free pet insurance from Pet Plan (including those over 8 years of age) and a free muzzle. We have both greyhounds and lurchers ready for re-homing (refer to care guidelines). Please give a thought to offering a home to a boy dog, especially the black ones - they are just as wonderful as the girls!

Please note that our helpline operators are not able to provide more information about individual dogs or where they are kennelled but will act as a referral service, forwarding your details to the relevant rehoming officer who will endeavour to get in touch with you within 48 hours.

Please may we also request that when enquiring about a dog, you provide us with a landline number whenever possible to help reduce uneccesary strain on the charity's resources. Thank you in advance.

Featured dog - Bluebell

Bluebell
Bluebell
Bluebell

Let the good times roll!!!!!

Bluebell is 9 years old - but she doesn't believe it when we tell her that!!!

Delicate and pretty, this lovely girl arrived with us from Ireland after many years of racing and breeding.

She is a Golden Oldie, but often acts like she is two! When something takes her interest she will often spring into the air like a gazelle, so Bluebell will need a home with a very secure garden, and would ideally be with older children.

Bluebell has spent her life in kennels, and is an independent girl who takes everything in her stride, but she will grow to love her new family once she realises how wonderful life can be.

If you think you could give this older lady a home where she can blossom into her true self, please contact us, she can't wait to meet you!

Poppy

Poppy
Poppy
Poppy

When dogs like Poppy come into rescue my heart bleeds. You can just tell she is missing a family. She has definately lived in a home before and she just loves children. Why her family tossed her aside we will never know but we can help Poppy to find a new family.

Poppy is probably about 3 years old but she still plays like a puppy - all bounce and throwing her toys around then pouncing on them. Poppy also has a lovely high stepping gait and a beautiful elegant way about her.

I suspect Poppy has plenty of saluki in her makeup so as well as a beautiful frame she is a deeply intelligent and very switched on to emotions. Poppy knows what she wants in life, a sofa of course! but the security of a loving owner who can offer a consistent and stable life to her.... but don't let her call all the shots - you make the rules!!!

Poppy will be very loyal and I've had her offlead in enclosed areas... she plays but stays close by.

Poppy also has the bonus of being a very good dog communicator! Some could mistake her as moody/bossy or grumpy at times with other dogs but she really isn't. Poppy will greet happy polite dogs with a playbow and loves to encourage a game out of them, but she does not tolerate rudeness or barging and is not afraid to tell a dog to back off or pack it in! She will then give them the chance to play again once they have taken the hint!

I imagine Poppy's perfect home is a nice family who have owner saluki type lurchers before. She would be fine to live with another dog but a settled polite dog who will respect her space.

Poppy would love to live with children, older respectful children again - she would be any childs dream companion to just be there nearby, a loyal friend for life. She would not like to be pulled around or dressed up or anything silly like that.

Please get in touch to offer this very special girl her home - I would dearly love to see her adored and secure and settled again very soon.

He loves going for walks and enjoys exploring. He loves people and cuddles. So if you love walks, exploring and cuddles this could be the dog for you!

He has been out and about with our volunteers to training classes and soon got the hang of associating the clicker with treats. Clever boy.

Prince needs a confident owner who is going to be able to help him live up to his name.

Daisy *In Foster*

Daisy *In Foster*
Daisy *In Foster*
Daisy *In Foster*

Daisy’s wish list:
Would love to live with another dog
Could live with calm children
Lots of snuggles
A home of her own

Daisy is our dinky Greyhound girlie who has retired from racing as its far too exhausting. She is 3 and a half years old and a petite 25 inches to the shoulder. She is a super sweet girl, walks well on the lead, and has been fine with the dogs she has met so far.

Daisy would love a home where there is another dog, as she feels she would be a bit lonely all by herself. She loves a cuddle and really wants some creature comforts and some lovely exciting walks.

Don’t worry about her bandaged foot in the picture. Daisy caught her toenail but it has all healed now, we just haven’t been able to take any more up to date pics yet.

*Updated*
Daisy has been in foster for a few weeks and has been a star. She is house trained and is loving life with her 2 male, Greyhound buddies. Daisy is also getting used to all the new household noises but the hoover still terrifies her!

Dinky Daisy

Dinky Daisy
Dinky Daisy
Dinky Daisy

Are you thinking of offering your time and company to a small affectionate girl. If so, please consider adopting our little 5 year old Dinky Daisy.

Daisy is a happy little whippet cross, who will make someone a faithful and loyal companion. She would prefer to live as an only dog as she can be a bit frightened of other dogs.

The best thing about Daisy is that she is small enough to sit on your lap and given half a chance, that is where she would prefer to be. Daisy is a really sweet, young, energetic lurcher who loves her walks and some off lead play in the garden as much as she loves to snuggle into people.

Daisy didn’t have too great a start to life and as a result finds young children quite scary so will do best in an adult home with older children.

Daisy has lived in a home before so will not take long to settle with you and she’ll happily accept the rules in your home.

I asked Daisy what she needed most and she said, “As I’m so small I need someone kind enough to keep me safe, steady enough to walk me and committed enough to keep me forever.”

Lonny

Lonny
Lonny
Lonny

Lovely Lonny is a two-year-old bull lurcher, with perhaps a little Saluki in his heritage. Lonny and his littermates arrived with GRWE from the pound at 9months old. Lonny did go to live in a home with other dogs and children but unfortunately struggled to settle there, so he’s now back with GRWE. Lonny has been enjoying some one-to-one time with our Behaviour Advisor and is now much less anxious: his play skills are developing nicely and he’s learning to greet other dogs confidently.

Lonny is a lovely, young and enthusiastic dog looking for a home that will continue to work on his training and be willing to deal with any potential separation anxiety issues, with the ongoing support of GRWE. He definitely needs to live with another steady, socially-adept adult dog who will enjoy playtime. Lonny could live with older children, but unfortunately not with cats.

Could you offer this lovely lad the home he deserves?

This stunning young lady is Jo Jo, a smooth coated Saluki x approximately 12-15 months old.
She is currently enjoying living in a foster home with 4 other hound friends who are showing her the ropes so she is house trained and walks very nicely on the lead and is at home in traffic.
Being friendly and full of fun, she would love an active family with older children, a garden to play in with a companion ...and of course lots of toys !

Jimmy

Jimmy
Jimmy
Jimmy

My name’s Jimmy and, as a young collie x lurcher, I’m bright as a button – just bursting with brains and energy! I’ve started doing something called ‘clicker work’ and am picking it up very quickly, of course; I’ve also been told I have potential as an agility hound.
I don’t like other male dogs without manners, but once I’ve got to know them I love a proper bit of playtime! I would really like to live with another dog for fun and company, and I have lived in a home with children before.
My Behaviour Advisor thinks I might have been crated inappropriately as I do get distressed very quickly in a crate – I’ll need a patient home prepared to work on my separation issues without a crate or to reintroduce it very carefully so it becomes a place of safety and relaxation for me.
I walk on a loose lead in a gentle leader and have been told I’m an ‘absolute pleasure’ to take for a walk! Did I mention what I fantastic family pet I’d make...?

Little Mo

Little Mo
Little Mo
Little Mo

Our lovely black greyhound girl called little Mo is now ready to settle into her retirement home, at the 'grand old age' of 2 and a bit years!
Mo is a petite greyhound, she has a lovable, quirky and bubbly personality, but also a bit of a bossy side to her character.
Mo has lived in a home before, she loves her walks and she's a really active young dog. Mo can also be left for a short while. A home with a family or someone who works part time would suit our Mo. Mo gets on well with other dogs out and about, but would much rather have a home all on her own.

In return, Mo will give you so much joy and affection, and will no doubt make you smile every day! Not just because of her rather unusual mohican hairstyle, which is why she's called Mo!

Michael *in foster*

Michael *in foster*
Michael *in foster*
Michael *in foster*

Hello everyone, I am not sure you have read about me properly because if you did you would all be queuing up to take me home
:-) I know I am black and I know I am a boy but I am the most gorgeous bouncy chap with a generous nature.

I am clean in the house and am comfortable living with other dogs as long as they are not too small. In my house there are often as many as 7 other dogs and my foster mum says that not once in the 3 months I have been with her have I moaned, grumped or been miserable with anyone!!

I would be happiest with another dog I think and someone who works part time. I can be left quite happily if you want to go out! I love people and my foster mum says she will be very sad to see me go! She says I am the easiest dog she has ever fostered! Gloat Gloat!

I love walking but I do pull a bit so I walk in a head collar which helps - apparently!

I just love life and everything in it! I would be fine to be homed with children (currently living with a 5 year old) although I maybe a bit bouncy to live with babies or toddlers!

There are only a couple of things I don't like.. one is cats :-) and the other is travelling.. I can't tell my humans why this is but I find the whole experience rather stressful. So i would need someone who can take time with me getting me used to their car and travelling around.

Emmie

Emmie
Emmie
Emmie

Emmie was found abandoned and pregnant in a field. She was taken to a dog pound, where her nine puppies were born. She cared for them sheltered from the winter in a kennel, and did her bit as a loving mother. Despite that, with no home to go to, Emmie and her pups were due to be put to sleep on Christmas Eve. GRWE stepped in and saved the family.
Emmie's pups are now moving on, heading for new homes, but she is left behind. Months in the pound has left Emmie in a pitifully unhappy state. She needs lots of love, as well as long walks and careful socialising to bring her back into life after ‘maternity leave’.
GRWE is seeking an experienced home, used to the bundle-of-fun nature and fast-bound loyalty of bull lurchers to help this deserving mum.

Ronan

Ronan
Ronan
Ronan

This lovely chap is Ronan a young 2 year old greyhound who is currently in foster. This is what his foster mum says...........

Ronan is a typical boisterous young dog, he loves to play with his toys, throwing them around and shaking them about, loves running around the garden .He is full of energy. He is intrigued by everything in the house the t.v. washing machine, hoover, etc , he is not afraid to run up and down the stairs and can jump up on the bed. He gets excitable when he sees other dogs running around in the distance, but not in an aggressive way. He walks well on the lead, no pulling. He loves the company of our dogs and wants them to play with him all the time. He is an intelligent dog and learns very quickly. He has seen children on scooters in the street and did not take much notice of them . Loves to cuddle up with the other dogs, or the humans on the sofa. Loves his food and anyone else's if he can get it !!! Would benefit of going to a home with another dog, as he can bark when left, but soon settles. He loves to greet you on your return home and first thing in the morning, his face says it all. He likes to be brushed and made a fuss of. He has the most expressive black dots on his eyebrows. He is a big dog, so despite being able to curl up really small he will need a big forever sofa to lie on!
Will keep you updated on his progress.

Bob ** Updated **

Bob is only a small chap and he is quite convinced that someone is going to want him soon. After all lots of people are looking out for a smaller sized greyhound, aren’t they . . . .?

He is learning all the time and will soon settle into a new home. Could you offer Bob a cosy duvet and lots of cuddles and love? He’s so looking forward to having a place he can call his own.

* * * * * * * * * * *

Bob is a two year old white and black greyhound; on the small side for a male. His owner was unable to care for him any longer and asked if GRWE would rehome him. Bob has not raced and is a fairly lively young man who will need a little education in the manners department. This is purely a case of not knowing any different and we would assume he has never received any proper training.

Bob is a lovely friendly boy and will need a home with someone who has patience and understanding. Please get in touch if you feel you can offer Bob the sort of home he is looking for.

Queenie

Queenie
Queenie
Queenie

Hello, I’m Queenie, a really friendly six year old black lurcher. I recently found myself in the GRWE kennels when my owner could no longer look after me. They were asked if they could rehome me so naturally I’m feeling a little sad and lonely in unfamiliar surroundings.

I have an affectionate and happy nature and am on the small side, standing a fairly solid 24’’ high to the shoulder. Although I am predominantly black with just a little white here and there on my body, feet and chest, I do have a lot of white hairs all over my face which make me look older than my years!! Believe me I am full of life; I love people, especially men.

I was well looked after by my previous master and am fit and in good condition. I am keen but well behaved on the lead and not a bit bothered by traffic. I guess I received some training in my youth as I am willing to please and will sit obediently for my treats.

Being so polite and friendly I feel that I would suit a variety of circumstances - a family with growing children who would play me, an active single person or a couple. I don’t mind other dogs, nor do I mind being left for a reasonable length of time.

As I have lived in a home before I am clean in the house and non-destructive.

I really want to be in a home again, not here in the kennels which are fine but just not the same as having someone special to care for you. Do you think you could take me home with you? I will do my very best to be a good and loving companion.

Missy *UPDATE*

Missy *UPDATE*
Missy *UPDATE*
Missy *UPDATE*

When Missy arrived with us it was as though a little whirlwind had hit the kennels! She has calmed down considerably now and started to realise that not all her habits, like bouncing up and down at people, albeit affectionately, are appreciated.

She is a pleasure to walk on the lead now and recently joined her kennel mates in a local dog walk where she encountered not only lots of sighthounds but several other breeds too.

Missy is a very loving girl and would soon settle in a home with a regular routine. She will need continuation of the training that she is currently getting but being so young she is keen to learn.

* * * * * * * * * * *

Missy is an un-tattooed 2 year old white and black greyhound girl standing a very petite 24 inches high. She has just come into our care with her brother Bob through no fault of their own as her previous owner’s circumstances have changed. It is thought she has not raced. Missy is not cat friendly.

She is a very bouncy, excitable, happy person who would benefit from a calm and ordered home where she can continue to blossom and mature. Missy would be happy sharing a home with older children and possibly another dog to learn from.

Can you offer Missy the fun and love that she is looking for?

How can you resist those ears?

Keela

Keela
Keela
Keela

Keela's plight was a desperate one! He owner had died and she was left alone with some other dogs in the house, being cared for by visiting family members whilst a rescue space was found. Poor dogs........

GRWE realised the urgency of the situation, and managed to find spaces for all three dogs.

Keela is a whippet x lurcher and she was the most nervous of the three, but has gained so much confidence since coming into our care. She would prefer to live with a steady dog in her new home. She is a lovely girl, whom we were told was 6 years old, but we feel is probably younger than that.

UPDATE:
Keela has met new friends recently and is enjoying long walks with them. She's really gained confidence and soon makes friends with new people too. Keela is very inquisitive when out and about, but walks nicely on a lead. She's really enjoying her country walks with other dogs and has become good friends with other GRWE dogs!
Keela would love to find a rural home with someone who enjoys relaxing walks.

Reggie

Reggie
Reggie
Reggie

Reggie’s wish list:
Could live with another dog
Could live with older children
Lots of lovely walks
Would love to learn

Meet Reggie our lovely Lurcher lad who is around 3 years old. He LOVES people especially men. He is quite a strong stocky boy but walks well on the lead. He has been fine with the dogs he has met so far but can be a little anxious at first until he gets to know them.

Reggie needs well-defined boundaries, but once you tell him not to do something he won’t do it again. Our volunteers are very fond of him and when you put his collar and or lead on, he will lean against your legs, collapse on your feet and immediately roll over on his tummy for a nice rub and just loves any attention you give him.

Being a stockier lad, Reggie would suit a busy home with teenagers, but not little ones as he may well knock a younger child over just brushing past them.

We think he is a super boy and would love to see him in his forever home.

Bertie Wooster Whippet

Bertie Wooster Whippet
Bertie Wooster Whippet
Bertie Wooster Whippet

Bertie Wooster is a six-year-old cuddle full of fun! This wonderful little whippet x terrier found his way to GRWE via the pound, but we suspect he’s lived in a home before. He can walk nicely on a lead, and travels happily in the car. Bertie’s recently started some clicker training, and seems to be enjoying the chance to demonstrate his bright, fast-learning terrier brain in return for cheese!

Bertie would be fine to live with children, but we’ve not yet tested him with cats. We think he would be alright to live either as an only dog or with another canine companion, although he’d need an understanding owner willing to work with him on being left home alone for short periods. Bertie recently spent an afternoon at home with one of our volunteers, where he didn’t once put a paw wrong!

Bertie has the potential to be the perfect pet for a family willing to put in just a little work to help him settle. Could you offer this cuddle the loving forever home he deserves?

Suzie

Suzie
Suzie
Suzie

Has anyone got a sofa for this lovely affectionate girl? Suzie is 8 years old and has spent her whole life in kennels, never setting foot in a house - well until last weekend when she went for a home assessment!

Suzie thouroughly enjoyed her break and settled in very well, trying out all 4 sofa's very quickly!
She soon got the hang of house training and was totally dry by the second day. She slept all night long without a fuss too.

Suzie would love a home with a garden to play in as she loves her toys. On lead she is quite strong so is walked in a head collar which helps. She is adjusting nicely to other breeds of dogs, and is learning that small ones are not to be chased! We do think Suzie would prefer to live on her own as she does like her own space, and she would very much enjoy all the attention she would get!

Is there anyone out there who could offer this older girly some comfort and love?

Smokey

Smokey
Smokey
Smokey

Smokey is about seven years old, and came to GRWE when his owner died. Volunteers describe Smokey as a ‘gorgeous, jolly, waggy boy’ and everyone at GRWE is surprised that the right home just hasn’t come Smokey’s way yet, If you can give this friendly boy some fun activities as well as quality ‘down time’, please get in touch by ringing 07000 785 092.

UPDATE

Lucky Smokey is spending some time at home with one of our volunteers. His first day in his foster home was a great adventure for him, after being in kennels he adapted well to his new surroundings.

We thought you would enjoy hearing about Smokey’s adventure as much as we are enjoying him having this wonderful opportunity to show everyone what a dog he is.

Smokey had a gallop in the paddock at kennels before getting in the car, and walked eagerly into the house and explored the house and garden.

Perhaps foolishly I showed him a tennis ball indoors and he zoomed round the available area with it - Eventually, he lay down when I sat down

The upper patio in our back garden is level with the kitchen window. Smokey froze when he saw his reflection. Then he tried to go round and get into the kitchen to approach the 'other dog' from behind!

Mid-afternoon we went out for about an hour's walk. I took Smokey up the back roads to our community woodland . Smokey was a little apprehensive to start with, as it was all new territory to him, but he did not pull and the whole walk was accomplished on a loose lead; on the homeward leg, Smokey was content to walk beside me. Smokey behave politely with dogs he met on our walk. On the way home we passed a house with a Skye terrier in the back garden, which barked and got excited. Smokey's response was to pull along our route, away from the disturbance.

He barks to try to provoke play. Not being a dog, I'm not sure how to respond to this. .

Dakota

Dakota
Dakota
Dakota

Dakota is a gorgeous looking young whippet x lurcher pup that we believe is just under a year old.

Being a youngster, Dakota loves to play and explore and then play some more. However life isn't all play and her she coming on really well in her training sessions where she knows how to "Sit" and "Drop". Dakota loves her food rewards and wants to please you so tries really hard to get it right.

During Dakota's short life so far, she has lived with other lurchers, a spaniel and a rottweiler, all of whom she got on well with.

Dakota can be a little apprehensive when meeting people and new dogs - however with time in the right family her confidence will grow.

Dakota travels really well in the car and walks well on the lead. She also did well in her cat test so we feel that she should have a 2nd test soon.

If a kind person came along with the time and patience to bring out the best in Dakota, she would very quickly and happily adopt them as her own.

Max - IN FOSTER, CAT FRIENDLY

Our Max is a bit of an unusual lurcher, maybe a collie x whippet but we don't really know... so we call him a true Heinz 57!
Max is 7 years old, but he's mentally and physically just like a 2 year old dog. He lived in a home for 5 years and had to come into rescue due to changes in his owners' personal circumstances.
Max is quite an independent dog, but he loves people and has been very good with the dogs he's been walked with. He doesn't like bouncy or barky dogs close up and personal, but who can blame him!
Max is a very energetic dog and just loves long walks.
Max is looking for an active home with plenty of walks, he's a busy dog and certainly not a couch potato.

Max will be cat tested soon, and we hope he has the potential to live happily with a cat. Max could live as an only dog, or with a calm companion for company.

Teddy

Teddy
Teddy
Teddy

Everyday is a good day for Teddy. He must be about the happiest greyhound I've ever come across. Always happy to greet people and say hello.

If he was human, I think his chosen career would be as a comedian.

Teddy walks well on the lead, gets on with other dogs and generally makes an effort to enjoy his life despite having had quite a rough life until he came into GRWE.

In kennels Teddy passes the time away by taking everything to bed - toys, blankets, biscuits, food bowls, water bowls and bowl stands - whatever he can pick up, ends up sleeping with him.

Teddy got his name because when he came into GRWE he must have been the fluffiest greyhound ever due to having to spend the winter months outside, however he has lost his fluff and has developed the shiniest of black coats.

Teddy is going to make a smashing hound for some very lucky family.

My name is Clown AKA Bob, and I think I am a good looking young 5 year old greyhound, I quite loving and playful. I retired from racing one year ago.

I am living in a home with one other greyhound but I would be best as an only dog as I like all the attention! My owner has to move to another house and can't take me wtih him so is very sad.

I am very tidy round the house, and I really like to stretch out on the sofa.
People think I am very funny, because I like to collect anything fluffy, toys, and socks and balls of wool all find their way my bed. And any trip to a pet shop ends up with me trying to shoplift a fluffy toy.
I don’t mind being left my own for fairly long periods, as I can catch up on my sleep. I really like people big and small, but not cats.
I enjoy meeting other dogs especially small ones. And I don’t mind being on the lead never pull, but I have a habit of wandering off when I am let off the lead, I don’t go far, I just like to be nosey.
I hope to find a home with somebody who can take me for lots of walks, and in return I’ll let you buy me more fluffy things, and I’ll make you laugh, because I’m a clown!

Blackie *living in foster*

Blackie *living in foster*
Blackie *living in foster*
Blackie *living in foster*

Blackie is one of the most gentle and loving lurchers I have had the privilege of meeting. He is around 2-4 years old and was picked up as a stray in Ireland. We know little of his past, but he is really sweet natured.

He has a low prey drive, is quite bright and quick to learn so definitely has great potential to be able to go off lead in the future. He is currently living in temporary foster. He is great in the house, good with other dogs big and small. He walks well on the lead. Blackie has spent time with several young children and would be fine to be placed with children of any age including toddlers.

Although he is a lurcher his temperament and behaviour is very much like a full greyhound. He is very chilled out, and likes to snooze. He does also like to play when he can and would enjoy living with another dog but we feel he would also be ok living on his own as long as he had someone with some time to devote to him. All in all Blackie would make a lovely family pet.

Bobby - IN FOSTER

Bobby - IN FOSTER
Bobby - IN FOSTER
Bobby - IN FOSTER

Our dear Bobby was rescued from a dog pound where he spent several weeks waiting for a rescue space.
Bobby is only about 2-3 years old and quite an unusual lurcher cross. We think there may be some staffie or collie in his breeding too.

Bobby has been left rather traumatised by his recent experiences in the dog pound, he must have been a very loyal dog to someone, so he was rather lost and sad. Bobby is a very sensitive dog, he's quietly taking everything in but we're also starting to see glimpses of his kind character - a true gentleman. He's been given the nickname 'the Thinker', because of his quiet and gentle nature.

Bobby has been great with all the dogs he's met so far.
He's looking for a dedicated home with someone who will give him time and gain his trust.

UPDATE
Bobby has been in a foster home for just over a month, with 4 other dogs and a cat. He's changed so much in this time: Bobby has not only gained 4kg in weight, he's also gaining self-confidence every day. He's learning to tolerate the cat too. He really enjoys his walks, the beach is one of his favourites!
It's taken Bobby a few weeks to feel relaxed enough to be able to learn new skills, but now, he's catching up fast. He loves clicker training, and is showing us that he's a rather smart dog too.
Bobby attended his first dog show last week where he had many admirers.
But on top of Bobby's wish list still is for a family to pick him and offer him a forever home!

Todd *In foster*

Todd *In foster*
Todd *In foster*
Todd *In foster*

Todd’s family asked us to find him a loving home because they are emigrating so are you looking for a middle aged, steady hound that has already lived in a home?

Todd is 6 years old and after retiring from the race track at 4, he lived with a family for 2 years. He is really well behaved in the home and a prime example of how greyhounds adapt brilliantly to retirement. Clean and quiet, relaxed and loving, Todd is going to make life so much better for one very lucky family.

Todd will integrate into another family relatively easily as he is an accepting boy with manners and has the will to please people. He is really affectionate and loves to be cuddled, petted and generally made a fuss of but will also happily lay on his bed and just watch the world go by. He is quite delicate in his eating habits and eats like a true gentleman, none of this gobbling up his dinner as if he has never been fed before.

Todd is in foster and doing well but needs to get back into his own home so that he can claim a new family as his own. He will do equally well in an older household or in a younger family home with sensible children.

Todd often says to me “When I find my new family, I’m going to keep them forever this time.”

Branson - in foster

Branson - in foster
Branson - in foster
Branson - in foster

Branson is socially savvy, has lovely manners and is a really good fun dog who quite likes his toys!
Black with little white snowflakes, Branson is about 4 or 5 years old, is food-orientated, so training should be easy with this playful lad who does a great play bow back at you!
He will need another doggy companion and someone who is around a lot to help him deal with his separation issues. But Branson is a super, super dog and will be worth every bit of time invested in him.

UPDATE:
Branson has taken to life in his foster home like the proverbial duck! He is clean in the house, has not chewed anything that doesn't belong to him and he has coped with the idiosyncratic whims of the resident female greyhound admirably!

He has demonstrated his love of all things squeaky, fluffy and
bouncy and if the toy box loses it's appeal, he'll look around for other
things to collect and take to his bed. (Including a bucket which he deftly carried by the handle!)

He is polite, doesn't push, jump, or jostle for attention and is
beginning to learn some basic commands so his foster mum can now eat her dinner without unexpectedly having to 'share'!

When out, Branson greets other dogs the way well mannered dogs do! We are still working on ignoring them when they are dashing across the park though, and for that matter we have to also include anything small furry and mobile in that category too!

Branson loves his food! He's not fussy and will eat what you put down in front of him. His love of a
tasty morsel should make his ongoing training a breeze and help
significantly when left in his crate (which he is more than happy to be in).

We are making huge progress on his separation issues, slowly increasing the time left 'home alone'. He sleeps downstairs without a peep now (with a friendly female greyhound to help him through the night!) He's fine in the car on his own and loves traveling; upside down sometimes, with his legs in the air!!!

Can you offer Branson some cuddles (he really loves those), some canine company and a toy box for two?

Jake

Jake
Jake
Jake

This gorgeous five-year-old lurcher (saluki-greyhound-staffie mix, perhaps?) is Jake! Jake came into the care of GRWE after his family’s circumstances changed, but he used to live in a home with a greyhound, children and a feisty cat who ruled the roost. He’s used to going off-lead, although care must be taken around exciting things like squirrels… Jake just loves being around people; he’s very responsive to a clicker and is having great fun playing games and learning new tricks.

Jake is looking for a new, forever home with another dog for company and a person or people who only work part-time since, being the sociable chap he is, Jake wouldn’t like to be left for long periods. Jake is currently being treated for an underactive thyroid, but this will be easily managed with ongoing medication and it might be possible to provide some financial assistance to a new home for this if needed.

Jake is a super (and stunning) dog who already knows what home life is all about – so don’t delay, enquire about Jake today!

Ceekay

Ceekay
Ceekay
Ceekay

Well, what can I say - Ceekay is a cross between Scooby Doo and Forrest Gump!!

He doesn't have a bad bone in his body and is a gangly, slightly dim, stunning boy who is just looking for a sofa to call his own and lots of love..!

There was a time when Ceekay had no manners, no social grounding and no idea how to behave. Now he is a loving and happy, well mannered young hound. He greets you with a wag of his tail and a lean for a stroke. He is the world’s biggest leaner and could lean on you all day for a stroke and will put his full weight against you.

He is a lot better on the lead now and will happily trot along by your side. If he sees other dogs on the lead he can be a bit vocal but only for a little while and then he forgets all about it. He isn't the most intelligent dog out there but what he lacks in brains he makes up for in other ways.

Ceekay is very content in his foster home and is more than happy with 2 lead walks and a little play in the garden.

He is fine with other dogs and currently living with another hound. Because of his size and dimness, it would be best if he wasn’t homed with small dogs or young children.

He really is a handsome boy and definitely a show winner..!

Benji is a typical greyhound, calm, easy, laid back - and well, basically lazy, although he does enjoy a game with toys in the paddock.

Benji gets on well with other dogs and also greatly enjoys a trip to the pub.

Carla *CAT FRIENDLY

Meet the lovely Carla. She is a saluki x lurcher. A beautiful, gentle girl, who is affectionate and loving. She is very petite and around 24in to the shoulder. Carla would love to be in home with at least one other dog and she is fine to live with cats too! She would prefer to have someone who works part time or is at home.

She can be a bit timid, but is really coming out of her shell living in a home. She is currently living in a very busy household with 4 other dogs. She would be fine to live with children as long as they weren't too boisterous!

Carla, walks really well on the lead and she would certainly be able to go off lead in the future.

Lovely black lurcher boy, twenty-three inches, seven years old.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
If you’re looking for a more mature boy but one that still has plenty of energy and a zest for life then I’m your man – I mean dog!

I’m a happy go lucky type and a very friendly fellow. Love my walks and will show interest in the passing pheasant or rabbit but then that’s only natural isn’t it? I’m told I pull a little on the lead initially – to be honest I wouldn’t know, but anyhow I soon settle down and enjoy a good old sniff in the hedgerows.

I get on well with my other kennelmates when we are exercised together and feel that I could settle well in a home with or without another dog.

Look at my pictures – don’t you think I’m a rather handsome chap?

Jack

Jack
Jack
Jack

Jack is a 4 year old greyhound who came to us from Wales. Jack is a very happy and affectionate boy with a very, very waggy tail.

However, he isn't as happy at the moment as he has had to have most of his tail amputated because he keeps injuring it! It has to be said he is being very brave.

UPDATE.
Jack moved into a foster home a couple of weeks ago to allow his tail to heal, and it is healing well. Having his tail removed has not bothered him in the slightest and he continues to be the happy boy that he is! He is currently living with two other greyhounds and he is loving it! He gets on well with other dogs, but he is rather intrigued by the smaller variety and he will need careful introductions with tiny breeds. He loves to play with toys and loves his doggy chews. He adores cuddles and is generally a very loving and affectionate dog. He can be left for 4 hours and has been clean in the house. He is good with children, but he is quite a large boy so we would recommend a home with children over 7 years only. Jack is a super boy who has settled into home life incredibly well. He would suit an active, fun home with another dog/s. It is about time this lovely boy found his forever home!

Unable to rehome Jack? Why not make a donation to show your support and love by texting GRWE01 £5 to 70070. The text message is free and 100% of your donation will go towards caring for Jack and the other dogs in our care

Blake

Blake
Blake
Blake

Blake is a very brave Greyhound boy who has survived a long period of abuse which left him terrified of people.

He has a lovely nature despite this and is even beginning to show shy affection to his foster family - you can read his story here http://oscarandblakegrwe.wordpress.com/

He will need a very special home with experienced, patient owners who can give him the time he needs - to get to know them at his own pace.

Blake is so good with other dogs and has not reacted on lead even to small ones - at his most frightened, he has never shown any signs of aggression to people or other animals.
He is house trained (even "goes" on command!) and walks beautifully to heel on lead.

He very much relies on his pack for confidence in his foster home, where he lives with another greyhound, a lurcher and a German Shepherd and he will need to be homed to someone with at least one other dog.

We don't think he would cope with children.

Now 4 years old, this beautiful and very special boy, so needs a quiet , loving home with someone who can make the rest of his life happy and safe.

Obi

Obi
Obi
Obi

This beautiful six-year-old greyhound boy is Obi. Obi adores people, loves his teddy bear, and is very good with other dogs. Having lived in a home since he was a puppy, Obi came into the care of GRWE after a change in circumstances. Obi would happily live with children and other dogs; he did live with a cat previously but can been keen on cats outside so care would need to be taken to assess compatibility with any future feline companions.

Obi walks reasonably well on the lead, once he gets over his initial excitement at the prospect of a walk. He was used to running off-lead in his previous home, but of course time would need to be invested in re-establishing his recall in a new home. Obi is a very bright boy who learns quickly and, as you might be able to tell, enjoys a good game of ‘fetch’ with a toy, especially a fluffy one!

Obi was having far too much fun with his teddy bear to pose for photos really... We’ll try and get some more shots soon to show you more of his handsome face, but if you can’t wait that long, if you think you could offer this lovely lad the home, love and attention he deserves, give us a call – come and get your very own Obi cuddle!

Rough 'n' Run

Rough 'n' Run
Rough 'n' Run
Rough 'n' Run

My new friends at GRWE like my name to much they didn't want to change it! Isn't it a beautiful name for a beautiful boy?... sorry I should have said handsome!

I am 7 years old, and have raced oh so many times. Now its time for a rest, and settling myself in the sun in the garden on this lovely rug, is where my new life will begin - I have earned it!

One of my friends at GRWE said this about me, which I rather liked.....

"Roughan and I have enjoyed many walks together. He loves going out and is always so polite on the lead walking nicely by my side and occasionally looking up for a chat. I have walked him in the country and in the town and he has been the perfect gentleman, not pulling on the lead, stopping to chat to admirers of all ages, not bothered about traffic.

For much of Roughan's life he has been racing so he still has to learn about the world out there, especially how to behave around small dogs. Although he doesn't pull and make a fuss about them he is very interested. He loves all the other sight hounds he mixes with at kennels.

Roughan is coping amazingly well learning about the world and taking it all in his stride. He has lots of affection to give and loves cuddles. He would love to be with a couple or a family, but not with small dogs or cats. He could be your one special dog or maybe he would like to live with another large dog or even better another greyhound !

He really enjoys rides out in the car or the van so if you are a family who loves to travel Roughan would be only too happy to come too. He is one really nice boy. I hope I get to walk him next week.....that's if he hasn't got snapped up by a new home already!"

...I puffed my chest out with pride when I read that - I really hope that nice lady comes back soon.......

Baggins ~ in foster ~

Baggins is a Saluki x lurcher and is around 2 - 3 years old.

Baggins is a happy, confident and lively chap who loves life and everything in it! He is great with other dogs although he gets very excited to try and meet them. Saying that he is also very lazy and would stay in bed all day if we would let him. He loves children and enjoys a cuddle, he is quite bouncy and
excitable so would probably be better with over 5's.

He is walks well on the lead but does get excited off lead (this will calm down when he can run more). He likes nothing more than cuddling up with you on the sofa or close to the radiator. Baggins would like to live with at least one other dog (he is currently living with 4 in his foster home). He is fine being left and is happier being crated when you go out as long as he has his antler to chew on! He travels well in a car.
If you want a dog who enjoys company and you have quite an active home Baggins is your boy!

Paddy *in foster*

Paddy *in foster*
Paddy *in foster*
Paddy *in foster*

Paddy is a very handsome 5 year old large black greyhound boy (28” to the shoulder), who is a retired racer originally from Ireland.

Here is what his foster mum says about him:

Paddy preferred the safety and comfort of his crate for the first couple of weeks, observing his new surroundings from a distance, but he has really started to come out of his shell now and has a fabulous character. He is currently living with two lurchers and when he isn’t snoozing in his bed, they’re all playing together in the garden. He can be a fussy so and so – he wasn’t happy with his bed until duvet number 3 had been added, making him look like the Princess and the Pea!!

He is a very affectionate boy who will come up to you for cuddles and is happy to stand still for as long as you’re happy to make a fuss of him, closing his eyes and enjoying every moment. He is the only dog in the household who actually welcomes me home!

Paddy gets very excited when it’s time for walkies. He has really improved since leaving kennels, walking beautifully on a loose lead most of the time, but he can be quite strong at times so is walked in a head collar. He is still learning that dogs come in all shapes, sizes and degrees of fluffiness and does show interest in the smaller varieties, so he will need someone to help introduce him to different breeds.

Paddy travels well in a car and doesn’t need any invitation to hop in as soon as the door has been opened; he settles down straight away and doesn’t make a sound.

He would like to live with at least one other medium to large dog, with someone around most of the time, but he can be left for a few hours. He could live with children over the age of 5 but unfortunately not with cats.

Skittle - CAT FRIENDLY
Skittle - CAT FRIENDLY

Skittle is only about 11 months and has already been abandoned in the pound.
He is a lurcher cross, maybe with a bit of labrador influence in his breeding. He's been rather unsettled by all the dramatic changes at such a young age. Skittle is longing for some security and stability, with someone who will give him a bit more time to mature and outgrow the teenage stage.
Skittle is a very intelligent boy and highly trainable too. He is clicker trained and just loves to learn new skills.

Skittle loves to play with other dogs, but he can be a bit too boisterous for tiny breeds.

Skittle is also cat friendly and could live with a family with older children.
