Homing enquiry

To send us an enquiry about rehoming one or more of our dogs, please use the Homing Enquiry form below to tell us a bit about yourself and any key details about your home situation, e.g. any children, other pets, flat or house etc. Then simply add your details and hit 'Send'.

A member of the GRWE rehoming team will contact you to discuss your enquiry. Please be patient and remember that we are all volunteers. Thank you!

The dogs shown here are a selection of the many dogs in our care at any one time. The dogs available for rehoming change on a daily basis and, while we try to keep our website as up to date as possible, the specific dogs shown may already have found their new home.

Please note that our helpline operators are not able to provide more information about individual dogs or where they are kennelled but will act as a referral service, forwarding your details to the relevant re-homing officer who will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

We assess all our dogs carefully and aim to give as much information about them as we can. Please give a thought to offering a home to a boy dog, especially the black ones - they are just as wonderful and trainable as the girls!

Please may we also request that when enquiring about a dog, you provide us with a landline number whenever possible to help reduce uneccesary strain on the charity's resources. Thank you in advance.

Buzz

Buzz is a beautiful three and a half year old greyhound boy who has been with us many months. Buzz has changed so much in the time he has spent with us and has really relaxed into a lovely dog.

Why has Buzz been with us so long?

Well being black doesn’t help his chances....... but we believe it’s mainly because Buzz needs a home with people who will understand that he is a dog who should not go off lead, Buzz is an alert lad, who we think raced on the flapping tracks and has a very strong chase instinct. Some people do not like the idea of not being able to let their dog off lead and this may be putting people off adopting him.

If you know of a secure place or have permission to use a secure field for Buzz he will delight in charging around and will come when you call him, he loves a game so someone with a big garden, or living in a semi rural, rural location would be great for Buzz.

Buzz has so much to offer... he is a very calm and relaxed boy, who will be no trouble at all with the right family. This lovely boy really does deserve his own home now, he has so much to give and only wants to be loved.

If you can see beyond keeping your dog on the lead on his walks and can understand why this is so important for a dog like Buzz, then please do get in touch - we would love to hear from you and so would Buzz!

Featured dog - Max

Max
Max
Max

Max is a very special boy who arrived with us last year after spending 6 years of his life in a rescue centre in Ireland. A cruelty case at the age of 6 months which ran on for two years, Max lived in kennels until the court finally agreed to rehoming. No home was found in Ireland so 4 years later he came to GRWE. His brother Star went straight into a foster home, no problems and living happily with three other dogs and three cats – a much loved family pet.

Max is now ready for his own home. He has also been living in a foster home and has made tremendous progress, he has learnt day to day routines and gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. Max needs a very special family who can carry on the good work, introducing him to the world that is still so new for him.

Max's foster mum says ‘Max is a lovely dog and has settled in well, experiencing normal day to day life. At first this was all very scary for him... from the scary Hoover to children and adults playing computer games and pretend tennis in the living room ( wii ), he actually looks for the ball that isn’t there! He would love a home that isn’t too busy as new noises do still make him run to his bed but he is very quick to come back and check things out. He’s good with other dogs and is very playful when he is confident with them, if not he stays close to your side for reassurance. He would love to have his own space to retreat to as and when he feels the need and be left until he is ready to brave things again. Max needs a kind soft approach but will take advantage if he thinks he can. He has been around teenage children and loves the fuss but may not appreciate younger children who may be too much for him. He’s scared of our cat so may be able to live with a cat in his new home although would probably prefer not too!

Theo

Theo
Theo
Theo

Meet Theo, and what a handsome boy he is!
Theo is both loving and affectionate and is currently living in a foster home. He is chilled out, undemanding, great with both adults and children, and easy to manage. Rarely barks. Loves cuddles and attention and gives it back too. He can be left for a few hours on his own without problems.

He is currently living as an only dog but would also be fine sharing his life with another dog as long as it is not too small. He is totally comfortable with medium to large dogs and is getting better all the time with the smaller breeds. He walks very well on the lead, although when he gets excited he can be quite strong. He still has quite a strong prey drive (he raced 64 times) but the more time you spend with him the more he is learning the rules outside the racing track!

His foster mum says "My house gets busy in the evening with lots of people, including children, coming to visit. Most of the time he remains in his bed, regally awaiting welcome attention from his "subjects" of all ages (which he nearly always gets because everyone loves him). Sometimes he does actually get up to greet people but he's never boisterous or intrusive. He is a real gentleman".

Theo would benefit from a home with someone used to sighthounds who is able to continue the great work that his foster mum has been doing. He is quick to learn and has come on massively since living we have had him.

Can you offer this gorgeous boy the loving home he deserves? If so then please get in touch!

Theo needs a home without a cat please.

Chariot

Chariot
Chariot
Chariot

This cheeky chap is Chariot. Before he met GRWE, Chariot had only
really ever known the life of a racing kennel lad and he's having
loads of fun learning about all the wonderful sights and smells that
exist in the big wide world. Chariot is only two, so needs someone willing and able to spend time with
him, and teach him how to have fun and be happy.
He's a very energetic boy, who loves his walks and his food, but like most greyhounds, once he's
had his 'mad five minutes' he'll flake out and sleep for a while.
Much as he's enjoying his time with GRWE, Chariot would definitely prefer a cat-free home
to call his own. If you think you could give this bouncy boy plenty
of cuddles, two short walks a day (twenty minutes is enough) and
a comfy duvet, please get in touch

Pat

Pat
Pat
Pat

This lovely boy has only just come to us. He is fairly big and, as you can see, has great ears! Pat is five years old and very friendly.

Further details to follow when we have been able to asses him further.

11/10/09

Today Pat and Magic came along on one of our regular walks and considering neither of them has been outside kennels before (apart from to the race track) their manners were impeccable. That was until everyone gathered for their usual refreshments afterwards and then the temptation was too great and the table top just had to be investigated! Both such lovely boys and with super natures.

21/11/09

Pat could really do with a home now and is so looking forward to spending the winter months curled up by a fire or on a cuddly duvet by the biggest radiator in the house will do! That combined with some winter walks (blizzard coat at the ready) and he’ll be a really happy boy.

Can you offer Pat some home comforts?

Eva - possibly cat trainable *

Eva - possibly cat trainable *
Eva - possibly cat trainable *
Eva - possibly cat trainable *

Little Eva is possibly one of the prettiest dogs we have ever seen. Her coat is an extraordinary blue brindle (black and cream) and she is a dot at only about 23" tall, with a very slight build.

Sadly Eva was returned to us recently due to a guarding incident. After careful assessment, we have determined that Eva is very uncertain of situations in which she is physically confronted and she needs to be dealt with calmly and without physical or verbal confrontation. As with a great number of starvation cases, Eva's resources are very important to her and she needs to feel secure in her environment.

She is approximately 15 months old and a Saluki X possible Collie X Whippet - with a Collie X Whippet (love me, fuss me, do ME!) fun and cheeky mentality. Eva is now quite confident with people and her time is a home means that she is now house-trained and her lead walking has improved, although she is still a little unsure of traffic. We have also been doing some clicker training with her and she LOVES it - this positive reward-based training is essential to get the best of out Eva. She comes alive when she starts training and would love an active home where they will take her to classes and do some agility or even dancing! Once in training mode, she is totally fixed on you to the exclusion of everything else and she just adores the mental challenge.

Eva was originally homed with a house rabbit, which she managed to ignore under careful guidance, so it is possible that she may be cat and other pet trainable! Eva needs a home with children over the age of 12, who will get involved in training and playing with her. She is good with all dogs but she may be better as an only dog.

Eva is beautiful but she does need a home with people that understand the bright, fun Collie X Whippet mentality. She will be an absolute dream in the right home and she really deserves a wonderful sofa to call her own. She is just such fun and we adore her. It will be a terrible struggle to let her go.

Betty

Betty
Betty
Betty

This little princess has stolen everyone's hearts! She is a beauty to be sure, and as we all know good things come in small packages.......Betty is round 2 years old and has come to us from a Welsh pound where she has been for some time sadly. We have no idea of her story as we have no history on her at all.

Betty loves company, both doggy and human - she revels in it! We have popped Betty into a foster home so that she has the chance to experience some home comforts and we can get to know her a bit better. She is sharing her home with two resident greyhounds and has lost no time in snuggling up in bed with them!

We have discovered that Betty is capable of jumping however! When she was in kennels she would have given an Olympic high jumper a run for their money! She earned herself the nickname "spiderwoman"! However we think Betty was just lonely in her kennel and wanted to join in with the other dogs and humans. So far, in her foster home we haven't seen any of this althletic behaviour as Betty has the companionship and cuddles she craved.

Betty needs to go to a home with other dogs and would love a busy household with lots to do to keep her occupied!

George

George
George
George

George is 3 years old and totally fabulous. A really lovely boy who walks beautifully on the lead, has no real issues and tops all that with a perma-wag of a tail - what's not to love?

You might think he's just another black boy, but believe me, you will not be disappointed if you choose him. A real pal for life.

*** UPDATE ***
Lucky George has managed to get himself a foster home where he is learning all about the joys of "real life" as well as living with new doggy friends. He has been an instant hit with all the family - he wags his tail constantly and is very affectionate - he particularly likes having his tummy tickled. Just like most greyhounds he has bursts of happy energy and then flops for ages. He loves being out in the garden and snoozing with his new pals.

His toilet training has come on in leaps and bounds - he is clean all night and asks to go out during the day - he is a very quick learner and eager to please.

He is very well mannered with his food and waits patiently until his bowl is put down and then looks for reassurance that it is his and that he may eat it. He doesn't snatch treats and takes them very gently out of your hands. He also walks beautifully on the lead.

His foster mum says he has a lovely nature and very comical ears!! Just what you need to make you smile.

A lovely brindle boy, Jake is only 2.5 years old and was gifted to us by his owner as he is not suitable for racing.

At the moment Jake is a little nervous of the big wide world but he is a friendly boy and no doubt will soon settle into the daily routine at the kennels while waiting for his permanent home.

Albie
Albie

This is the beautiful Albie who has recently arrived with us.

Albie has just turned 4 and to celebrate he would like his very own home and family.

Albie is a happy, bubbly boy with lots of love and personality. He does the very best greyhound cuddles and chatters his teeth with joy at being fussed. He will make a fanastic family dog and just loves everyone.

Albie is showing a little too much interest in the kennel cats, so we feel that a home without small furries would be best. He will need to learn about other shapes and sizes of dogs too, as he has never seen small ones or ones with squishy faces (Boxers!) for example but he is doing very well with all his introductions.

Albie is beautiful and a really super, friendly, happy chap and you really couldn't wish for a better greyhound.

Pat

Pat
Pat
Pat

Pat is a wonderful boy who recently came to us from a home where he had been for the previous 8 months.

Having lived in a home, Pat is used to all that this involves but his owner was finding him a little too large to walk (he is 30"+) and as such made the right choice to re-home him. We have been walking him on a gentle leader and he is no trouble at all on this.

Pat has settled back in to kennels well but really needs his own sofa again very quickly! Ideally we would like a home with somewhere for him to run around in and a fun and lively environment, with people to play with and perhaps some older children and another dog or so!

Pat is great with small dogs and dogs of his own size but he is very keen on cats (and not quite in the way we would hope) so he cannot go to a home with cats.

He is a gentle giant, he adores people of all kinds and is at his happiest with human company.

A dog not to be missed!!!

Jimmy (2)

Jimmy was a first class racer who was raced by his trainer and co owner. On his retirement five years ago Jimmy, who was much thought of by his trainer, was retained at the kennels. However when an opportunity arose for Jimmy to enjoy a new life away from kennels his owner kindly gifted Jimmy to GRWE.

So this is Jimmy who is nine years old, used to a quiet routine and, because of that, we would recommend that he goes to a home without children. He will not require masses of exercise.

He has a lovely, friendly personality and is a confident dog. Can you offer Jimmy a nice comfy home for his retirement?

Shine

Shine is a very special little girl who will make someone's world!

Born in April 2004 shehas raced over 130 races so she has well and truly earnt her retirement.

Shine arrived in not the best of conditions but with such spirit, she has bounced back and has put on weight and her skin is clearing up and she is indeed starting to shine...

Shine walks like an angel on the lead, she has joined us on our big group walks which often include mixed breeds and several small dogs - Shine has behaved perfectly at each walk. Shine is very affectionate and loves having visitors to fuss and brush her - we love her and think she is wonderful.

Shine will be ready for her new home soon and we want to find her somewhere really special - she definitvely deserves it!

Purdey

Purdey
Purdey
Purdey

Purdey was an extremely nervous dog when she was taken from the pound where she found herself after being picked up as a stray. In fact she was terrified. She is gradually becoming used to people and doesn’t back off now whenever approached. Having Danny with her has probably helped enormously as he is a calming influence, being the sort of dog who takes life in his stride.

Purdey is a 6 year old brindle lurcher although she looks younger. She needs a quiet home with someone who has time for her to "come out of herself".

Dora

Dora
Dora
Dora

Dora is a fun girl, she is 3 years old and doesnt have any official racing history, although we believe she has spent time on the flapping tracks so probably has had a few races.

Dora is very sweet and loves to play, she has spent some time with children and small breed dogs since arriving with GRWE....

Dora will now be moving into a foster home so we can enjoy getting to know her more.... please get in touch to find out more about Dora...

Update:

Dora is fantastic, she has now been in foster care for a month and her coat is already beginning to shine, along with her beautiful nature.

Dora loves her life these days and it shows! – on walks she greets every dog she meets as a long lost friend. She is happily living alongside 2 other greyhounds and a crossbreed dog. She thrives on human companionship and lives for her cuddles which she actively seeks out.

She has a sunny disposition and a happy smiley face. Dora has a lot of love to give and will make a fantastic companion for a very lucky family.

We could all learn a lot from a dog like Dora.

Bow

Bow
Bow
Bow

Bow is a beautiful girl of 4 years old. She has come into our care from the North of England where she found herself in need of rescue space when her racing days were over.

She really is a beautiful girl! Bow is quite large for a girlie greyhound, and she really is a stunner who would turn heads in the street. Bow hasn't been with us for very long, and we are still getting to know her, but so far she seems to be settling in well and is wagging her tail happily.

Bow loves the other kennel dogs, and was really in her element out on her walk with the other greyhounds. We think she will make a wonderful companion dog for someone lucky enough to have her.

*Upate* 18.12.2009

Bow is now in a foster home. She has settled really well and enjoys the company of two other greyhounds. We think she is beautiful too! Bow is a confident girl and is great fun to have around, she enjoys playing with toys and will share with the other dogs. She took to home life really easily and settled into the routine very well.

She is quite strong on lead and wears a halti when out on walks and walks very well with it. She is not cat friendly and is learning that other breeds of dog exist other than greyhounds.

She is just a lovely. Have we mentioned how beautiful she is????

Lucky has been with us some weeks now but has fitted right into our routines and has been a pleasure to look after.

Lucky enjoys the company of other dogs and has been very well behaved on our large group walks, he can be quite strong on the lead but its all part of his enthusiasm to be out and about enjoying himself.

Lucky is going to make a lovely pet for someone.

Shep was in a dog pound in Wales and needed a rescue space so we stepped in to help him. He is a dear little chap who has the most adorable face............who could dump a lad like this?

Because Shep was a stray we don't have any history on him so we are assessing him as we spend more time with him. He is great wth people and with other dogs, and particularly likes Maxie as he spent time with him when he was waiting in the pound to be rescued.

Shep is great on the lead and is a happy chappie who needs his own home now.
*update 28/12/9*

Shep is doing really well with us - he is such a lovely chap! He is a really sunny boy who loves other dogs and simply adores people too. Today he came out on a walk to the beach and just LOVED it! He really enjoyed a walk in the sunshine, and revelled in the attention he got from all his admirers. His new photos show just how happy he is now he has settled with us.

Badger
Badger
Badger

Badger is a gorgeous black and white greyhound who arrived from a trainer in Ireland in Oct 09. Badger will turn 3 this year.

Badger can be very nervous in new situations and takes time to settle in. We are looking for a home for him where he can live with another greyhound bitch and with experienced owners who have the time to spend with him to build his confidence.

Ideally badger would be suited to a semi rural or rural home. We would like his new owners to spend time getting to know Badger before he goes to his new home, visiting him in his kennel and taking him out for walks (badger is always impeccable when out for walks), which will help Badger make the transition to a new home.

When Badger is familiar with his surroundings and people he is a lovely affectionate boy. Badger is in kennels in Herts/Beds region.

Edward is a lovely blue 6 year old greyhound boy who is looking for his home.

Edward is a small boy with a petite build for a greyhound.

Edward is currently living in a foster home so he has already started learning about homelife and he likes what he finds!

Edward is a sparky boy with a real zest for life and he would now love his very own home to settle into and start enjoying.....

this is what Edwards foster mum says about him..

Edward is a very bouncy (literally bounces like a kangaroo) good natured hound who demands love and attention.
He would be over the moon in a home of his own and be utterly devoted to his owner. He is highly inquisitive and extremely good at ferreting out molecules of food. He enjoys his exercise and is quite active during the day, but quiet as a mouse at night and very comfortable and settled in a crate if you need to leave him alone for several hours.

He is 4 years old and has only just come off the track having had his last race in December.

He is looking forward to finding a nice sofa to retire onto.

He seems a lovely friendly boy.
He has been out for walk with some other dogs and was very well behaved, despite lots of ducks and geese skating around on the ice!

More information when we have taken him out again!

Update: We took Jimmy out with 5 other greyhounds last week and he was very well behaved again. The kennel staff say he is a joy to look after.

Blue

Blue is 5 years old and a very happy boy. He is loving his new life with GRWE where he goes for walks, gets groomed and has lots of lovely treats, cuddles and love.

He is a super dog who walks well on the lead. The most wonderful thing in the world at the moment for Blue is the snow. I don't know if he's ever seen snow before but he sure is loving it - he is a major snow puppy and just loves to scoot his face along the snow until his head is buried in it and then roll on his back and kick his legs in the air. He is going to be very disappointed when it all melts.

He just loves it when the volunteers arrive at kennels and he adores being around people. I am sure he is the sort of dog who would love having the luxury of someone around who could be his pal.

Sally

This young lady is just lovely. Who she is is currently a mystery as we are unable to read her ear tattoo, so we have called her Sally.

Sally came to us from a dog pound in S Wales - she had been handed in by her owners as she had chewed up a sheepskin rug when she was left on her own - oh dear, how dreadful! Thankfully Sally will be homed by us to someone who will love her for the super dog she is, and we are sure she would love another dog for company too.

This lovely girl walks well on a lead, is good in traffic, and is very well behaved around other dogs. She will make a lovely companion for someone!

Lucky Dave

Lucky Dave
Lucky Dave
Lucky Dave

Introducing Dave, whom we really should have called "Lucky". Last weekend we did a transport run to pick up several greyhounds in need of rescue space. When our volunteer arrived to collect another dog, she was handed Dave as well, as he had been saved from being put to sleep that morning. Unbelievably he had raced just the night before, and had pulled a muscle in his back leg - and for that he was going to be put to sleep...........

Halfway up the M6 we received a call asking if we had room for Dave? We didn't, but faced with that kind of scenario, what do you do? Of course we had to find room for him, and we are so glad we were able to help Dave (aka Lucky Dave!)

Dave was 4years old in January, and is one of the loveliest dogs you could ever wish to meet. When confronted by new situations, he has eyes like saucers, but soon settles down when he knows there is nothing to be afraid of. His leg is absolutely fine - no lasting ill-effects apart from some bruising. This chilled out boy is one of life's plodders. Not much fazes him so it seems, and he is of course totally oblivious to the lucky escape he had!

Woody is a lovely black greyhound who was bred in Ireland for racing. He is just 3 years old and was no longer wanted when he didn't make the grade.

This handsome chap walks nicely on the lead and is happy around his kennel mates. Because he has only ever lived amongst greyhounds, he doesn't know what other breeds of dogs are! When he seems them in the distance he is interested in them, but when he gets up close and knows they are another dog, Woody is keen to make friends.

Sid

Sid
Sid
Sid

How handsome is this gorgeous boy? Sid came to us from an Irish pound where he was picked up as a stray in a pitiful condition. He was covered in mange and was a very very nervous boy; clearly whatever had happened to Sid in his past was not pleasant, and he had obviously suffered greatly.

Several months of rehab have worked wonders! Sid is now a shining gleaming example of how a lurcher should look, and is a real happy-chappy. He is living in a foster home with two other dogs, and really enjoys their company. Sid particularly loves his walks, and likes nothing more than a cuddle with his foster mum on the settee.

This little man has made so much progress since being with us and is now ready for a home of his own. We won't home him with very small children, but he would simply love a home wth other dogs and older children.

Ps Siddy simply loves the snow!! Its a pure joy to see this little lad playing his heart out in the garden!

Wrinkles

Wrinkles....this is going to be a hard one to write a rehoming post for as I dont want him to go!

Wrinkles is a gorgeous, calm, sweet, loving and affectionate boy - he also strikes me as very loyal.

Wrinkles came to us from the man who bred him, he turns 6 in April and he has been a working dog but had a fall out with his kennel mate so his owner thought it was time for Wrinkles to find a home of his own. I collected Wrinkles and bought him straight home and he has been the perfect housemate ever since..

Wrinkles is clean and quiet in the home and a pleasure to have around, he is coming out of himself more each day and gives a lovely happy little wag and has started playing and interacting with my other dogs now.

Wrinkles is NOT cat safe

Wrinkles needs an adoring owner who is going to love him and tell him how gorgeous he is... he is going to make someone very happy - and me very jealous!

Wesley is 5 years old and a complete cuddle-bum! He loves company, both people and other dogs, but is also happy to spend some time on his own too. His foster Mum has been leaving him for short stretches without problems and he's quiet and clean overnight as well. Wesley is generally very nice to walk, he can be a bit excited with little dogs racing around, but is otherwise impeccably behaved. He has only been in foster for a week so far but is really starting to find his feet. It's a shame I can't put video clips on here as i've just had a fantastic out-take of him trotting round the kitchen with a doormat in his mouth, tail wagging and a glint of mischief in his eyes!! His foster Mum is doing a super job exchanging these little borrowed items for proper toys, which he thinks are fab and it won't be long before he knows which things he can run around with at playtime, and which are best left for the humans! Everything is a fantastic opportunity for a game at the moment :-) Wesley is a huge foodie - chicken is his absolute favourite food in the whole world - and this is definitely a bonus for training! His house-training is coming along and has been greatly helped by using a crate, which he enjoys spending time in and would be happy to continue in his new home. He's a cracking dog and will make a super family pet, with or without other dogs around him. What are you waiting for?

Harry

Harry
Harry

Hello all, my name is Harry! I am a gorgeous 12 month old boy and I was found tied some railings! Can you believe that! Thankfully a very nice dog warden found me and after some TLC, I am now ready and raring to go to my new home.

As you can tell from my photo I am a small lurcher, approximately 24" at the shoulder and I am almost certainly a smooth Saluki X. I am a gorgeous fawn with a smattering of dark in my tail and I really am very pretty!

I think life is just great fun, even after all the nasty things I have been through (including having to have my bits removed!) but I am easy-going, quite chilled for my age in my kennel and I greet everyone like my long-lost friend.

I am very playful with other dogs and I haven't found a single one I don't like, even if they bark at me, I just play-bow them and bark back and try to entice them in to a game. I am superfriendly!

I would love a home with some other dog friends please, as I really enjoy their company and people/children too as I am young and need some life and fun! Lots of walks would be good too, as I love to run and play.

I have been doing some clicker training and think it is just fab! Hey what's not to like, I do something easy and get a treat! I respond really well to positive training and will make a fantastic friend.

Please enquire quickly, as I am VERY homeable!!

Jacko!

Jacko!
Jacko!

Hello world!

My name is Jacko and I have recently come in to the care of GRWE, having been found as a stray. You will see from my rather gorgeous ears that I am a lurcher with certainly some Saluki and very possibly something like a smattering of Labrador?? Whatever I am, I am extremely handsome (even if I do say so myself)!

I am approximately 26" tall and I have a really shiny, ultra soft coat. I am approximately 2 years old but I am very chilled and steady for my age. I can appear a little reserved at first but that is actually just who I am - I am a pretty calm, steady, laid-back chap - welllllllllllllll until I am left alone in my kennel, which I am not so sure about! I really do prefer company please!

I would ideally like a great family to live with who will spend lots of time with me, play with me and get to know me as their best friend. Ideally I would like other dogs to play with, I am currently very good friends with Harry (the fawn lurcher) and we have had great games 'rarrrrrrrrrring' around the paddock!

I have a rabbit toy in the kennels with me and I will bring it to you when you come to see me - I love my rabbit, so please be prepared to make room for this in your home too! It is missing an ear I am afraid and looks a little forlorn but I love it!

I am friendly with other dogs, I love to play and I will make a great family dog.

Jessica is an ex-racer who has been retired by her owner. She is 3 years old and has only ever known kennel life.
She is quite a slight little girl and is a friendly soul who loves all the attention she is getting from the kennels and dog walkers.
We will be homing Jessica into a home without cats, and as she has only ever met other greyhounds so far in her life, she will need to be introduced to other breeds of dogs too.
She is a lovely girl who will make a great pet.

Maxi Boy

Maxi Boy
Maxi Boy
Maxi Boy

Max is 4 years old and a happy and loving dog who very much enjoys the company of people and just adores attention and affection. He thought he had found his forever home but, unfortunately, it was not to be. However, his previous owner says that he is "a great dog and she would highly recommend him".

Max is a magnificent looking dog who adores having his tummy tickled and will lift his leg in appreciation in order to facilitate better access to his tummy!!! He gently sings and chatters his teeth like a sewing machine when he is happy. He loves to be out and walking and has learnt to walk like a gentleman on his Halti.

His favourite toy in the world is his sausage dog cuddly and he likes nothing better than to throw him up into the air and catch him again. However, since losing the home he loved Max has nothing left in his life but his sausage dog and as you can see from his photo, he cuddles up to him in kennels drawing comfort that he reminds him of happier times and dreaming that someone will love him and want him again.

He is very sociable, extremely biddable and beautifully house trained. He loves to please. On walks he looks to you to see if you want to give a command. He is capable of so much more - would you like to teach him? He would like a home with no other dogs please so if you are looking for a real companion and pal, Max is the boy for you. He is a truly handsome and loving boy (his photos do not do him justice - he has the most melting brown eyes) and he loves his bed and once he has had his walk settles down happily - I would love to take him home.

Mia

Mia is 6 years old and has a lovely, kind nature. She came into the pound in an awful state but, as you can see, has improved in leaps and bounds and will soon have a lovely glossy coat.

We think she may need only fairly gentle exercise to start with as she has stiffened up a little due to lack of exercise.

If you want a nice steady girl, Mia will be your faithful companion – no doubt about that!

It is doubtful that she has been worked. She will need some good basic training and will make a lovely pet for anyone with time to spend on her.

Bertie is 3 years old and is another racing reject. Not up to the mark so unwanted............

Luckily we were able to step in to help him and offer a safe place for Bertie. Now Bertie is ready for re-homing and is looking forward to it very much!

We took Bertie to the beach along with the other kennel dogs, and he loved to feel the sand beneath his feet - probably for the first time in his life. Bertie enjoyed his walk, and also enjoyed a quick snooze on the floor of the pub with his friend Woody making a very useful pillow!

Poncho is 2 years old. He was bred for racing but didn't make the grade, and like so many others, he was no longer wanted.

He is a lovely dog and oh so handsome! Just look at that shiny glossy coat - he could turn heads in the street! Poncho walks well on a lead and enjoys a nice long walk with his kennel chums. He is quite a tall boy, but is rather willowy with it, so a bit of a super-model really!

Poncho is a young dog and is looking forward to learning all about life in a home - he is particularly keen to find all about "the settee" which he has heard so much about!

Oscar (2)

Oscar is a 3yr old boy who has only just come into our care. He was originally called Stag but we didn't think that suited him! A lovely lady who was adopting Paddy chose Oscar for him...a much better name!
He is one seriously good looking boy who is in good physical condition.Just look at that fantastic smile!!

Update 29/12/09

I can't believe this lovely boy has not found his own duvet yet! Oscar has turned out to be a lovely fun boy who will bring cuddles and smiles to any home! Please give us a call to find out more about this handsome man!

Update 26/1/10

Well, the gorgeous Oscar is still with us and now very ready for his new home. He's learned lots since he's been with us and is really excited about finding a family of his own to show off his new skills, especially playing fetch! He now brings his toys back to your hand :-) Oscar walks really, really nicely on the lead most of the time, he just gets a bit excited if there are dogs running around off lead, otherwise, he's an absolute pleasure and the excitement is manageable on a gentle leader. He's loving, kind, funny, sweet, full of impish mischief and will make a fantastic family dog..... does he sound like the boy for you?

Tony

Tony
Tony
Tony

We think Tony is Grrrrrrrreat (only those over the age of 35 will understand that!)

He is 4 years old and finished his racing career in October. Tony's owner handed him over to rescue to find a new home for him.

Tony is quite a big lad and has a big heart to match his stature. He is a lovely friendly lad, who enjoys his walks in the countryside with the dog walkers. Whilst we have had Tony with us we have noticed that he does like his own space though. He is fine walking alongside other dogs, but in smaller more confined spaces, like a car for example, he doesn't like the close proximity of other dogs, and will grizzle at them to let them know that!

Tony can't go to a home with cats, and will need careful introductions to small dogs as so far in his life he's only ever met greyhounds.

This lad is a super boy, who will make a really wonderful, faithful companion. Please don't overlook just because he is big, black and likes his own space - he is just lovely - just look at that face!

Ralphy

Ralphy
Ralphy
Ralphy

You don't get much more handsome than this??!!!

Ralphy is a Saluki X and has been in a foster home for several weeks now. Ralphy was found wandering and starving as a stray several months ago and at only 3 years old, he had been through a lot.

Due to a nasty tummy bug when he arrived, we struggled to get weight on Ralphy but as you can see with the aid of a particular diet (easily purchased from pet stores and at a similar price to Burns & James Wellbeloved) and care not to over-do the treats, Ralphy has been completely transformed!

He is a bouncy, fun, outgoing sort who loves to play and is happy to entertain himself or play with his doggy or human friends. Ralphy is very gentle with children but due to his zest for life, he would be better in a home with slightly older ones. Ralphy enjoys his kong toys, he loves all toys actually and a game of ball is just GREAT!

Ralphy is completely house-trained and he can be left for several hours alone quite happily. He is best walked on a head collar, as he can be shy with new dogs but he soons plays nicely with them. We think Ralphy would be best in a home on his own or with a confident female.

Ralphy is a bright boy and knows lots of commands, sit, down etc. and is very keen to learn more please! He will need things to keep his mind occupied and he really does loves his play-time but once this is over, he is happy to recline on a sofa and look, well, extremely handsome and just soak up the admiring gasps!

We have lots more information on Ralphy and he is now more than ready for his new home.

Please get in touch, he is a super dog and his foster Mum adores him - can you?

Copper

Copper
Copper
Copper

Copper is approximately 6 years old and has recently had a damaged toe amputated, which has made him feel much more comfortable and will pose no further problems for him. But who cares about that - just look at those eyes!!

This boy had a bad start in life, as he was kept in a very small enclosed space as a puppy but that is in the past and he has recently been kenneled with a female and is enjoying her company very much thank you!

Copper is a wonderfully loving dog, he really enjoys his cuddles and he ADORES a game with a ball, which he will return to you! This boy has bags of potential to be a fantastic family dog. Within weeks his coat would shine as much as his personality, he just needs you to take him home and love him (oh and throw his ball)!!

*update* Copper has fallen on his feet and has found himself a wonderful foster home. He's currently living the high-life and max-ing out on his use of the settee and other such comforts! He has settled in well, and loves the other dogs in the foster home - he is doing so well, we are sure it won't be long until he has a home of his own.

Abbey

Abbey
Abbey
Abbey

Abbey will be three in January. Her racing career ended in February this year and sadly she ended up in a pound in the north east so we know nothing of her history during the last six months.

Abbey has only just arrived at our kennels. She is pretty and a friendly girl.

28/9/09
We took Abbey and Jimmy to a local show this weekend and both dogs were amazing. They just wanted to say hello to everyone who came by, adults and children alike and were on the go most of the day. Bet they slept well on Saturday night!

6/2/10

Abbey was returned to us this week after being rehomed in October last year. It turned out that she could not be trusted with some of the animals on her owner's smallholding and they took the tough but sensible decision to return her to us.

Because of her behaviour we are now recommending that Abbey is rehomed where there are no animals, apart from dogs. This is not unusual behaviour from a greyhound as they have been taught to chase from an early age and they know no different.
She has been perfect in every other respect and is waiting for her forever home again.

Abbey is a super, friendly girl and will make someone a wonderful pet.

Luey

Luey
Luey
Luey

Luey is currently in a foster home learning to socialise politely with
other dogs of all shapes and sizes, although he is generally good
around other dogs once he gets to know them, he can get a bit worried when first meeting them.

We asked Luey's foster mum for a write up on how he is doing -

"He is sharing his home with an older female lurcher and he benifits
from her company, but he is a playful lad who would like to have a
play mate. However he can get a bit bossy during play so care to
introduce toys will be needed.

Luey is not cat friendly and will chase small furries (although of course we don't allow him to!) He is learning to play with toys instead, and his recall is good as long as you engage him first. He has a really smart brain too with lots of potential to do agility, obedience or clicker training. Luey loves to learn new things and picks what you want up very quickly. Lurchers with brains can get bored so a game or two a day will keep his mind in order. Already Luey has learnt to play fetch or football very well in the garden, and as he is very food orientated training should be easy.

The best thing about Luey is he loves people and he loves cuddles very much. He wants to be with you as much as possible and so eager to please, but is ok to be left for a short time, and you get the most enthusiastic welcome home from him. His personality has come out in bundles and he is a cheeky chap with a very lovable streak, you can't not fall in love with him, and he has the funniest sleeping positions.

He is stunning to look at and his fur is the softest velvet to touch, he is as handsome inside as he is out.

Inside the home he is a gentleman, he does like the home comforts but will get off furniture when asked to, he also is just as happy on a soft dog bed, he is easy going.
He is very clean in the house and will ask to go out if he needs to.
He is now used to wearing coats outside and at night as our house can get cold at night."

We think she is smitten - could you be?

Danny

Danny
Danny
Danny

Danny’s eyes will melt the most hardened of hearts. He has had a hard life and now deserves some “me time”. Danny is a gentle boy and would appreciate some home comforts now – not much to ask for is it after years of being at someone’s beck and call?

Danny is an 8 years old smooth coated, black lurcher. He will require only gentle, on the lead exercise, with off lead in the garden. A quiet home is what he is seeking.

Could you offer Danny some home comforts at last.

Whilst you may look at these photos of Danny and feel that he looks a little unhappy; he isn't. He just takes life as it comes but you just know that he would love a home of his own - wouldn't you if you were him?
