Do you want a loving, affectionate dog who will adore spending time with you and be a truly loyal companion?
Do you want a fun dog who will happily play ball for HOURS in the garden, is good with children and is also content to be left for a few hours at a time?

Then meet Jake! This cracking little dog is a fawn whippet cross with tons of personality, a loving, kind nature and he wants nothing more than to find his second perfect family. He was with his first family since puppyhood, but sadly they have emigrated and were unable to take him with them. Jake has really missed having his people around, you can tell he was a much loved family pet and the transition to kennels has been really tough on him. He just sparkles when he knows he's coming out with you, even just for a quick cuddle! Jake is house and crate-trained and his basic training is impeccable - he will even sit at a distance!

You'd never guess his age from meeting him, but Jake is actually 11 years old (going on 7)!!! He’s very sprightly and it's always our volunteers who run out of steam first at playtime, never Jake – he skips after his ball like a gazelle!! He then loves nothing more than coming inside for a snuggle and a snooze :-)

Jake needs a confident owner who will help him on the lead when he meets other dogs as he was very nervous when he arrived, having been attacked twice when he was younger. However, Jake is now shaking off this part of his life and learning how to enjoy interacting with other dogs, both inside and even off lead in our enclosure. Jake gets on particularly well with a couple of our greyhounds and Figgy the Jack Russell! We think Jake has potential to live with other dogs in an experienced home, as long as his canine friends are calm and relaxed (he doesn't enjoy being pounced on or pressurised). We would be delighted to help a new home to gain Jake’s trust as we have done - he just tries so hard to please when he knows you will look after him! Jake is a pleasure to be with and will repay you a thousand-fold for the chance to come home…..

Mitch

Mitch
Mitch
Mitch

Mitch is a very handsome striking looking boy with his spotty legs.
We think he is about 3 years old and he was also picked up by the dog warden so we know nothing about his history.
We know he is a good traveller. He is a bit unsure of new situations and for this reason we think he may have been kennelled outside. He is strong on lead to start with but soon settles down to walk nicely.

Update~17.5.09
Mitch's character is really bubbling to the surface now he is becoming more confident and very loving and really ready to go to his forever home.

Update~15.6.09

Mitch is looking fabulous he is still boistrous but so full of life and fun he really needs a strong leader in his life someone who will not allow him to get away with too much he is just like a naughty teenager and most of know what they can be like!!

Todd 2

Todd 2
Todd 2
Todd 2

Todd is a really handsome boy, only 2 years old and has never raced. This is probably because at some stage he has broken his hock. This has now fused, giving him some weakness in this area. Because of this he must not have too much exercise otherwise he ends up limping.

He walks beautifully on the lead; is currently getting used to meeting other breeds of dogs and getting used to the big wild world outside of kennels - the only life he has ever known.

Todd is a very friendly boy who will make a wonderful pet. Although he is learning to mix with non greyhounds it would be too much to ask him to live with a cat.

UPDATE 02/07/2009
Last weekend we took Todd to a large dog show, for a day out. He was such a good boy and behaved impeccably. We walked him around and he met dogs of all shapes and sizes, without turning a hair. He obviously found it all quite exciting but was good on the lead and settled down nicely outside the GRWE stand!

Raffy

Meet Raffy, he is a gorgeous black brindle boy who retired from racing in March and who has now been handed into us by his trainer so that we can help to find him a forever home so that he can relax and enjoy his well earned retirement.

Raffy is 3 years old and is a happy and friendly chap who walks nicely on the lead.

Raffy enjoys his runs in the paddock and then goes straight back to his kennel where he falls fast asleep!

He is not cat friendly but would probably be very happy to live with another dog.

If you can offer Raffy a comfy sofa in your home and would like more information please get in touch.

Lucky

Lucky
Lucky
Lucky

A true black beauty.

Don’t let this guy race away; he is an easy, friendly, affectionate, loveable, 5-year-old boy.

Lucky is currently in foster care enjoying all the comforts of busy family life – great for a guy who enjoys cuddles so much!

He is excellent on the lead, enjoys his walks and does not react to cats while out and about - so watch this space as he is due to be cat tested shortly and he could well be adding another string to his bow.

He is great with other dogs and has no issues with the smaller models as his picture shows.

Lucky would make the perfect pet for any family, so enquire about him and …. “be Lucky”.

Buzz

Buzz is 3 years old and was rescued by us just in the nick of time. He was in such a sorry state when he arrived but day by day he is getting better looking!!

He is an extremely affectionate dog who will stand for hours to be cuddled or groomed - obviously lapping up the attention and love he has been missing all his life.

Do you fancy a cuddle bunny in your home? then get in touch.

BTW, he was determined not to have his photo taken, despite all our best efforts, and looked everywhere but at the camera! I did warn him - no smile, no home - so better luck at the next attempt.

Tyler

Tyler is a very handsome black and white boy who has recently been handed into us by his trainer. Tyler is 4 years old and finished his racing career about 10 months ago having raced 38 times.

Tyler will have spent most of his life in kennels so will need a home with someone who will understand his needs and will allow him the time to adjust and settle into a whole new way of life.

Tyler is quite a laid back boy who seems to take things in his stride. He walks nicely on the lead and is very affectionate.

Tyler would love to find a sofa to call his own so that he can really start to enjoy his retirement.

If you would like to know more about Tyler please get in touch.

Tipp

Tipp
Tipp
Tipp

This little cutie is only just over a year old and full of fun - just look at that cheeky smile! She came into a rescue in Ireland at just a few months old then later moved to GRWE and has responded really well to some positive training and stimulation! She will play with you for hours given the opportunity and loves nothing more than running round with her toys. Tipp is very quick to learn new things and also likes to show off her skills once she has mastered them – sitting and sometimes even lifting a paw wins a cuddle out of people every time! She would be a good candidate for doing agility, we think! Tipp is really good with other dogs, big and small, but does think she has a right to play with everyone she sees and at the moment can still be a bit boisterous on the lead if not allowed to go over and say hello. This settles quickly though and when off the lead, she behaves very nicely. Tipp is a young lurcher and has a bit more energy than an average greyhound and for this reason we think she would do really well in an active home that will enjoy taking her out for decent walks and spending some quality playtime in the garden with a ball! She has spent some time in foster during the Easter holidays and is now housetrained too. Tipp craves contact and companionship and might find it a bit unsettling to be left on her own initially so another dog for company and a home with people popping in and out during the day would be ideal - the reward will be an incredibly devoted and affectionate girl who wants nothing more than to be your best friend.

Dasher

Dasher
Dasher
Dasher

Dasher is a beautiful, affectionate, young lurcher, either deerhound x or Bedlington x probably alot of bearded collie in there too.

He came into the rescue from a pound so must have been abandoned and had to fend for himself at a very early age. How frightening that must be when he was little more than a puppy.

For this reason his new owners need to have a good understanding of rescue dogs and will need to set him clear non - confontational boundaries.

In his early life he will have had to defend food in order to survive and now he needs someone who will work with him, with our support, to help him adjust to the comfort of life in the home.

Dasher is in a foster home living alongside different dogs, we feel that he would thrive in the home as the only dog or with one other laid back but strong bitch. Dasher does not cope very well with change and needs a home that will be able to provide him with clear boundaries and plenty of consistancy. He needs an experienced owner who will be able to help him to reach his full potential.

Dasher cannot be homed with cats or young children. Dasher does have a high and proven prey drive so he will be safer kept on the lead in open spaces. Dasher walks beautifully to heel....He is a lovely dog who really does want to please, he does have a lot to learn to get it right but he is a very intelligent boy and we are sure with the right owner he will get there...

If you are the special person that Dasher needs please get in touch...

Max

Max
Max
Max

Max is another one of our boys that was rescued from dreadful conditions and is looking to start a whole new life - he is only 4 years old and very handsome with it.

His thighs and tail still bear the signs of his terrible life but they will heal and his fur will re-grow and he will be a magnificent looking dog in no time.

He has settled with us really well and is quiet and well behaved in his kennel. He is extremely happy with his new life so far and we are rewarded with regular kisses and the most lovely waggy tail and smiley face. He seems to be remarkably unscathed by his past and is ready to undergo his assessments and become someone's forever dog. He asked me to tell you that he can't wait!!

**UPDATE**
Max continues to progress beautifully. As anticipated his fur is growing back and he is a magnificent looking dog. He is very sociable and easy going and extremely biddable. He loves to please and would be easy to train. On walks he looks to you to see if you want to give a command. He has learnt to walk very nicely and will wait at kerbs before crossing roads. He is capable of so much more - would you like to teach him?

Prudence

Prudence
Prudence
Prudence

Dear Prudence..................and what a dear she is! We aren't really sure how old she is but somewhere around 4yrs old is probably about right.

Prudence was found in Ireland wandering in the street and was luckily picked up and taken to safety. She was in very poor condition when she was found, and had very probably not long before had a litter of puppies. She is gaining strength and will soon be ready to be spayed; this will be done before she is re-homed.

She has a playful streak and loves to stretch her long legs in the paddock when she can. On occassions she will look down her long elegant saluki nose in the way that only a saluki can! We love her, and we have a feeling you will too..........

*update 10/6/9

Well Pudence's owners did love her - LOTS. However Pudence just could not settle with the cat and so after a lot of soul-searching, her owners returned her. So she needs a cat free home to be hers.

Beth

Beth
Beth
Beth

Do you want a dinky dot of a dog - do you want fun, happiness and a mega waggy tail - do you think the best things come in small packages?? Meet little Beth - she's just 2 years old with a face to melt hearts and a personality twice as big as she is.

Although she is only so young we think she has been used for breeding a number of times and has now been discarded and was about to be put to sleep. She is healthy and full of life and has not brought any "baggage" with her.

She has not been with us long and is learning her manners. She is doing very well and is enjoying learning lots of new things. When out and about she is very sociable and likes to make friends with everyone.

She came to us in a very tatty and uncared for state but just look at her now - shiny, healthy and happy and just waiting for you. Do you think you could be up for some Beth in your life? Be warned - your sofa and possibly your lap will never be empty again!!

Cleo *cat trainable*

Cleo *cat trainable*
Cleo *cat trainable*
Cleo *cat trainable*

Cleo is our beautiful smooth saluki x lady who made her way to us from Ireland. Cleo is a medium sized lurcher standing at 25" to the shoulder. Cleo is a real sweetie, playful and adoring, Cleo arrived back in April very quiet and shy. We paired her up in kennels with Billy - a handsome large steady calm greyhound male who bought Cleo on so well...... now Cleo is getting rather bossy and sure of herself Its lovely to see her character shining through!

We were looking to home Cleo with Billy but have been reassesing this recently and doing more things with each of them apart and taking Cleo out with our other steady confident boys..... Cleo has been fine and in fact we feel now it is a strong, calm confident male dog Cleo needs in her life rather than just Billy..... we think this will give both Cleo and Billy a better chance to find their own homes that they so deserve now......

Cleo has tasted homelife already as we have a lovely couple who take one of our dogs home once a week and spend the day introducing them to the home and walking them with a real mix of breeds in the afternoon before dropping them back to their kennel home for dinner! Cleo took to the sofa immediately and she is so ready for a permanent sofa now. Cleo is still a little shy and initially we think she will worry but once she has settled and starts to feel her feet you will get to see the real wonderful Cleo that has emerged!

Mitch 2

Mitch 2
Mitch 2

Mitch is a gorgeous 4 year old boy, who is very sweet natured and affectionate. He had to have 19 teeth removed but this does not deter him from eating well.

He has lived in a foster home and is house trained. He's also good with other dogs, and has proved to be cat friendly.

He is a bit strong on the lead initially and would probably benefit from walking on a harness. He does calm down though and really needs someone to help him realise that there is no need to pull.

Is there room on your sofa for this big playful cuddle bunny?

UPDATE 02/07/2009.
This lovely boy is now in foster and doing well. His foster mum says that he is actually very placid & calms other dogs down too. He is very playfull, loves to chase a ball & throw his ragger around. He is very responsive on the lead when there is no-one else about, and is learning not to pull when he gets excited!
He has settled down very well & is a joy to be with.

Billy aka Leggit

Billy aka Leggit
Billy aka Leggit
Billy aka Leggit

This beautiful boy has had to come back into our care.
A lot of you may remember him from an appeal we did several months ago he was the poor boy who had come from travellers with a very strange walking gait it was soon discovered that he had a broken back!
Our vets thought they could repair this so the trustees were asked if we could fund this and of course they agreed.
Billy has made a full recovery is about a year old now and as you can see from his latest photos has grown into a very handsome dog.

At the moment Billy is having a careful assesment he is kennelled with a greyhound bitch and they are getting on really well together.
He seems to be frightened of other dogs so some more socialising is the order of the day at the moment.

Update~23.6.09
Billy is making great progress and he is now ready to go to his home this time it really must be his forever home.
He needs to go on his own or with a bossy bitch and needs a strong owner who will treat him fimly but fairly and not allow him to get away with too much we also feel he would be better in a home without young children as they would probably be too much for him to cope with.

Connie

Connie
Connie
Connie

Connie is a precious flower who is just waiting to emerge. At the moment she cowers in the back of her kennel when new people call to see her, shaking with fear. With those she knows her confidence is growing and she will now remain at the front of the kennel for a smooth, even though she is rigid with fear whilst she is standing there.

Its so sad to see a dog so petrified, and Connie will need to be with us for a while longer until she is ready to go out and face the world.

Connie will be 4 this year and is an Irish ex-racer who was handed in by her trainer who wanted her to be re-homed.

When she is ready for homing Connie will need a home with another dog, preferrably a greyhound, to give her confidence. She would be best placed in a home without any small children as she finds noise and sudden movements very scary. We are looking forward to seeing the new Confident Connie!

*Update*
Connie has taken her first steps into the big wide world by moving into a foster home which she shares with two other greyhounds.
She is still very nervous but is curious and interested in what is going on around her. She is a total sweetheart and just loves the other dogs. Her confidence really grows in the company of other dogs and she has been very friendly towards all dogs she has met. She takes a while to trust humans but anyone adopting Connie will have their patience rewarded over and over again. Once you gain her trust she is very affectionate and loves nothing better than a cuddle. She is housetrained and is happy being left, provided she has the company of another dog.

Sonic

Sonic is 4 years old and has come to us from the pound so we don't know a great deal about his history. He gets very excited when he sees you coming and just loves lapping up the attention! His coat isn't the best at the moment, but we're working on it and there are little patches of shine starting to come through - unfortunately he is so endearing he seems to spend most of his grooming sessions being fed treats and getting cuddles rather than lots of diligent brushing (not that Sonic minds that!)

He walks nicely on the lead once his initial excitement has worn off and we'll be introducing him to our little dog and cat testers as soon as he has settled in...

Poor Luca, 8 years old and he has to start looking for a home all over again. Luca is a fine looking greyhound, he stands at 30" to the shoulder and is in beautiful condition.

Luca is a sweetheart who, luckily doesnt hold grudges so Luca is optimistic that someone will look a his gorgeous kind face and his sleek shiny black coat and fall in love.

Luca is already well used to home life so just needs someone who will take him in and offer him what he so wants again.....

.......his own home, but this time forever.

Bally is Star and Annie's brother (see success stories) and is the last of this beautiful litter to still be with us. He is a complete softie and considering he is only 7 months old, is very laid back indeed - just look at the picture of him at our last event!!!

In other respects he is a typical pup and loves toys, playtime, cuddles and FOOD! (And he can stretch his tongue miles up his nose - again, see pic!!!!) He gets on extremely well with other dogs, is good on the lead and travelling, will be happy to live with children and maybe also cats with a little bit of training and if he's anything like his sisters, will be pretty easy to housetrain too! Bally just needs a nice home offer now please so if this little poppet is for you, do get in touch!!

Jordan

Jordan
Jordan
Jordan

Jordan is a greyhound cross who has come over to us from Ireland. He isn't very old, probably only around 9 months old and was found wandering over there together with another dog.

As expected, Jordan is a lovely dog who is really friendly and loves other dogs. He's great with people too, and we are hopeful that he may well be able to live with a cat.

Jordan is a young dog and needs an active home with lots going on to keep him busy. Remember he has probably had no training and no guidance in his life so far, so whoever offers this lovely dog a home will need to start with the basics. He is such a gorgeous boy, and all he wants to do is please everyone he meets, so we think he will be a very loyal companion.

Rita

Rita
Rita
Rita

Sadly Rita’s owners were unable to care for her any longer and asked us if we would find her a new home.

Rita is a smooth coated lurcher - brindle with white feet and a wonderful pair of ears. At the moment she bears a large scar on her back and down one side of her hindquarters. This is a fairly recent injury and is almost healed. We think this could possibly be the result of scrambling through barbed wire.

She is a lovely girl, full of life and loves everyone and also everyone’s food if they're not careful!

This girl is great company and would bring a lot of fun into her new owner's life.

Further information about Rita:
=======================

She has lived in a home with several young children ranging from 8 months to 11 years old. She has also lived with cats and when we cat tested her showed no interest.

Although Rita does look a little older due to her grey face, she is in fact only 2/3 years old.

Gaz

Gaz
Gaz
Gaz

Look at little Gaz - only 2 years old and as cute as a button. He is a small lurcher who is very down on his luck.

He has come from a home where people kept him in a kennel and didn’t really give him any interaction either with toys and playtime or with training and in fact, punished any initial misdemeanours by shouting at him, beating him and where his toilet was concerned, rubbing his nose in it. However, he does not hold that against us humans (these dogs are so amazing) and in the right hands he will blossom into the most delightful pet.

He was really in need of rescue and needs a nice steady loving home who will be prepared to love him and teach him correctly – not all dogs are lucky enough to find that.

Can you offer Gaz the safe and gentle home he is looking for (with some fun and frolics thrown in for good measure!)

Whizz

Whizz
Whizz
Whizz

Whizz is a very high energy collie x lurcher who has been with us for some months.

Whizz is not your typical laid back lurcher.

Ideally we would like a home for Whizz as the only dog OR with one or two older stronger dogs who will not be fazed by Whizz.
Whizz is going to need alot of space and someone with time to play mental games with her and teach her how to focus her energy.

Whizz is very good in the house and has learnt to settle quickly, she can be left for a few hours crated. Whizz is quiet when left alone.

If you think you are the home for Whizz please get in touch - she is desperate for someone to love and understand her and she really will love you.

Whizz cannot go to a home with young children

Rhea

Rhea
Rhea

Rhea is 5 years old and was once a racing dog. When her life on the track came to an end she was re-homed to a lady and was the apple of her eye. Sadly due to ill health, Rhea's owner wasn't able to keep her and she had to hand Rhea over to rescue.

Rhea is currently in season so isn't ready for homing quite yet. She has been in her home for around 2 years and has been living as an only dog during that time. She hasn't been used to being left for long periods in her previous home and so we would like to find a similar type of home for Rhea, so that we keep the changes for her to a minmum.

She is small and beautiful with eyes like chocolate buttons. Rhea is great with other dogs but cannot go to live with cats. She has also spent some time in a home with a neighburs daughter, and enjoyed her company too.

A cracking little girl!

Daisy

Daisy
Daisy
Daisy

Daisy is a saluki x greyhound who came to us from the dog pound. We have no idea of her history as she was a stray. We estimate her to be somewhere between 1 and 3 years old and think she may well have had a litter of puppies along the way..........

Poor old Daisy seems to be just resigned to whatever happens to her next. We think she looks a bit sad, and as she's not in great condition either this makes us feel that so far Daisy's life hasn't been too great.

We cat tested Daisy and to say she failed would be an understatement! She is extremely keen and this needs to be taken on board by whoever offers her a home. In all probability Daisy has probably been a working lurcher and was thrown out when no longer wanted.

Whatever her past, she's safe and has a big comfy bed and good grub now, as well as lots of cuddles of course! When she has put on some more weight she will be spayed, and then she will be ready for a new home, when life will change for the better for her.

Tina

Tina
Tina
Tina

As you can see Tina is a gorgeous girl. She loves attention and cuddles and is a confident dog. She would suit a family with grown up children and would fit in well with an existing dog. Tina is not good with cats or small dogs.

Tina came back to us having been homed nearly two years ago. Circumstances in her home had changed and Tina's behaviour was beginning to change too. Her owner, sensibly, decided the best thing to do was for us to find Tina a more suitable, stable home. To help her become more settled Tina has been placed in a foster home and is getting on very well. She lives happily with the four lurchers there and loves her walks with them.

Tina is 6 years old and needs a permanent home that can offer her some stability.

Could yours be the home she is seeking?

Rolo

Rolo
Rolo
Rolo

Rolo was rescued by GRWE just in the nick of time. He was found as a stray and we can only guess at what had happened to him before he was picked up or what his former life can have been like.

He was so weak and emaciated he could hardly stand and was covered in weeping and infected wounds and pressure sores. He was a dog in need of the most major TLC. Well he came to the right place.

At first he wasn't well enough for vet treatment so he came into foster and has been built up with lots of small nutritious meals and had all his poor wounds treated. He has come on in leaps and bounds and is gaining weight and healing beautifully.

He is the most gorgeous loving and affectionate dog and even when he was too weak to stand he wagged his tail whenver he saw me. Absolutely adorable! He is now enjoying the feeling of a full tummy and a lovely soft comfy bed. He is going out and about on short walks and loving the companionship of the other dogs in the house but, most of all, he loves his foster parents. He is now very much on his way to making the most wonderful pet.

We will just hint at his condition in the photos below but as you can also see he has the most beautiful face and is recovering very well.

If ever anyone deserved a forever home, it is Rolo. He has only just turned 5 years old so has lots of years left to give lots of love. If you feel you can complete the transformation in this boy's fortunes, please get in touch.

** UPDATE FROM HIS FOSTER HOME **

Rolo has amazed everyone - he is now well and fit and ready to be homed. He is the most delightful boy - clean and quiet in the house and no trouble. He walks beautifully on the lead. He adores being loved and cuddled and just soaks it up. To know him is to love him - one cuddle and you will be hooked! See him above just about to lift his paw ready for a tummy tickle - irresistible !!

Pip

Pip

Pip is an ex-working lurcher and fortunately her owner wanted to ensure she has a good home to go to in her retirement.

She is smallish in size and is very sweet – in fact she is adorable! It would be advisable to keep her on a lead as she has been a working dog. That’s no problem as she's a pleasure to walk.

Pip has not lived in a home before. She can be left for a few hours. She is around 7 years old and is now looking for somewhere to just dream about rabbits! She has been cat tested and showed no interest.

Can you offer Pip her dream retirement home?

Jenson

Jenson
Jenson
Jenson

meet Jenson - our beautiful red bull cross boy who really is such a nice boy....

Jenson came to us from the pound - he had learnt how to jump out of his garden - his 2nd time at the pound no one came for him. Jenson does indeed have quite a jump on him and this is the reason he is in a foster home rather than in kennels as he cleared his 8ft kennel from standstill!

Jensons foster mum says -
"I was initially worried about bringing him back to my garden with just 6ft fences - I kept him onlead in the garden at first but it was soon clear that Jenson just wants company and so far hasnt even looked at getting out - he is a very happy relaxed boy and a pleasure to have around"

Jenson is about 2 yrs old - younger if anything, he stands at about 26 inch to the shoulder.

Jenson has been bought up very well and handled kindly and this shows in what a sweet gentle boy he is - Jenson has been very busy this weekend but has taken all his meetings in his stride and was an angel whilst we all had sunday roast in the pub garden this morning.

Jenson has a little bit of weight to gain but he is a stunning dog with such a kind eye..

There is going to be a very happy family out there who adopts this lovely boy

Kyle

Kyle
Kyle

Kyle is a lovely big lad who is 5 years old. A few weeks ago he waited in the dog pound for his fate to be decided........but now he is also a HERO! When we took Kyle to the vets last week for his vaccination, and whilst he was there an emergency came in and a blood donor was required...........queue Kyle!

As many of you know greyhounds make excellent blood donors, and Kyle was no exception. He was a star, and having saved a Westie's life was handsomely rewarded with a scrummy dinner at the vets for being such a hero!

Kyle is a smashing dog who is fine with other dogs big and small. We are hoping that he may be ok with cats too, but we will test him before re-homing.

Batista

Batista
Batista
Batista

Batista is 3 years old and is an ex-racing greyhound. His career is over and at the tender age of 3 he is taking early retirement. He hopes to move to the country where he can indulge in country pursuits such as walking, meeting the locals, going to the pub and roaching on the settee when his new family aren't looking!

This gorgeous boy has such a kind face, and the most lovely eyes. He has been well looked after and is in beautiful condition. Batista walks well on the lead and enjoys the company of other greyhounds. He is quite a "keen" boy, and anyone offering him a home will need to be cognisant of the fact that Batista needs time to adjust to his new surroundings and be socialised around other breeds of dogs.

He cannnot live with cats.

James

James
James

Do you like your greyhounds tall, dark & handsome?

James is a beautiful calm and laid back boy - he stands 30 inch at the shoulder and is the gentlest of greyhounds.....he is an absoloute pleasure to be around and as light as a feather on the lead.

James is kind, loving and have I mentioned beautiful?

James is a very very special greyhound waiting for his very own home.

James is living in foster care at the moment and is very social with all the dogs he shares the home with - he is also calm, gentle and relaxed around the 4 and 8 yr old children in the foster home.

James really is a dream boy and would love his own home very soon - he would love a big garden to show off his helicopter spinning he does when he is very happy!

Smithy

Smithy
Smithy
Smithy

Smithy is 4 years old and has already had some very difficult times in his short life. When he arrived with us he had a wound encircling one of his back legs where he had been tethered for goodness knows how long as the tether had cut through his fur and into his skin.

He was rehomed by us but returned because his owners didn't understand his needs and felt they could not manage a dog who had suffered traumas and needed help to be guided into his new life. As a result, we have moved him into one of our foster homes where he is doing beautifully. He is currently living with two other hounds and settled very well. He is housetrained and, indeed, asks to go out when he needs it. He loves to walk and eat! He is very affectionate and he now has a very waggy tail that goes round like a helicopter blade! His foster mum says that when he settles down for bed he makes blissful groans as he snuggles into his duvet - he loves to have a place to call his own.

He has been suffering from nightmares as a result of his past but these are now decreasing as he eases into a stress free life. He is a superb dog, really lovely, who needs a nice relaxed adult home with somone who is prepared to be his leader but will be gentle with it.

Shady

Shady
Shady
Shady

Shady is a beautiful lurcher boy who came to GRWE last year after his family's circumstances changed.

Shady is going to be 9 this year which is unbelievable as his teeth are fantastic and he has a real puppy-ish look about him and he lopes along like a young dog!

Shady is cat friendly and lived in his first home with a cat, any new home will of course have to do sensible introductions to any cats in the household.

Shady had an unsettled time of late, but is really starting to blossom now, and will make a wonderful companion. He has learned to get on well with both large and small dogs. He would be happy as an only dog, or with the companionship of a calm, relaxed dog.

Shady has suffered in his past placements with seperation anxiety but he has been in a foster home now for a couple of months and is a much happier relaxed dogs, Shady just needs to feel secure by knowing his boundaries - he is doing extremely well in his foster home and we want his next home to be sure that they will carry on all the good work.......Shady is a work in progress, but he will repay the work with so much love.

If you are the dedicated type looking for a smashing boy - then please call us and we would be happy to talk to you about Shady.

Troy

Troy
Troy
Troy

Troy is a very handsome and affectionate dog aged between 5 and 6 years. He loves people and is great with children. Troy is fully housetrained and at ease in the home environment. He can be left alone for a number of hours.

Troy has a very strong prey instinct. We are currently working with him to socialise him with other breeds of dogs. He will walk calmly with other greyhounds.

Troy will need a special home in a very secure environment with experienced owners who are able to understand his behaviour and continue with his dog socialisation.

Given the chance he will make a lovely family pet in the right home.

Mabel

Mabel

Meet Mabel, she is a very sweet 18 month old whippet X. Mabel is good with other dogs and has lived with children and a cat in her first home.

Sadly Mabel was returned to us as being young and playful ,her owners found that despite loving her very much that at times she was a a bit too lively for them.

Mabel is a lovely girl who is missing her home comforts now that she is back in kennels. Mabel would love to find a home who can give her the time and exercise that all young dogs need. We would like to find her a home with someone who can offer her plenty of love, but who will also be happy to make some time to take her back to basics with her training and who will be consitent with their rules and boundaries for her.

We feel that she would probably enjoy living with another dog or dogs as being young she will benefit from having canine friends to play with. We think that Mabel will make someone a super pet as she is fun and very affectionate with people, so if you feel that you have what she is looking for, please get in touch.

Henry

Henry
Henry
Henry

Henry is a very lovable, bouncy, 3 year old rough coated lurcher who has recently come back into our kennels after being rehomed for a short period. He is a very bouncy boy and unfortunately was upsetting the working collie in the home, so much so that she would go and hide from Henry and her owner was concerned that this would interfere with her work on the farm.

Henry isn’t that big but has massive character and can be rather clumsy so we would not recommend him for a home with younger children.

Henry gets on with most dogs but he can be a bit too much for some. He would live happily with an assertive bitch or as the only dog.

If you feel that you could cope with a dog that is great fun, looks gorgeous and is always pleased to see people then please get in touch to find out more!

Bandy

Bandy

This beautiful girl is 3 years old and has to come us from her trainer. She has a very sweet nature (although not with cats, so feline-free homes only please!) and walks nicely on the lead. Bandy is on the smaller side for a greyhound girl, but makes up for this in personality and will make a gorgeous addition to her new family.... :-)

DAN

DAN
DAN
DAN

Due to a change in family circumstances Dan's family were unable to keep him so he was offered free to a good home. Fortunately GRWE stepped in to help Dan.

This lovely chap is 8 years old. He finished racing in 2004 and so we presume he has been living in a home since then. He must be wondering what has happend to turn his world upside down..........but if he is wondering that, it certainly hasn't dampened his enthusiasm for life!!

Dan is a really friendly dog who greets everyone he meets with gusto! His previous owners told us that he wasn't comfortable around small children, so we will be homing him somewhere where he won't meet any. He is a happy boy with a very sunny nature, and we love him to bits already!

When Dan went to the vets this week he met a cat...........he was terrified!! We will of course do a proper cat test, but it does sound hopeful!

Update 17/5/9

Sadly Dan has been returned to us so is waiting for his new family to find him. We feel he would be better in a home with no other dogs or with just one steady lady friend to keep him in order! He is a very lovely dog and will be a really loyal companion for the right owner.
