Bingo has been with us for a few months now and he has really gone on a journey of transformation - so much so that I am rewriting his homing appeal!

Originally arriving from a "pet" home, Bingo was a mess, very underweight, bald in places and sad. All of the above we could fix and with time Bingo has developed into a stunning, happy and enthusiastic boy.

Bingo LOVES walks - he had spent most of his time with us in kennels so walkies was his outlet - he gets very excited and does bounce when you put his lead on but once out he walks confidently and happily taking it all in. Bingo has walked with various dog of all sizes and has been fine with all.

Bingo has recently moved into a foster home and he is in heaven! Home is definitely where this boy belongs - he has calmed right down and is so relaxed and really appreciates his home comforts.

Bingo is now MORE than ready for his very own home. He would love someone who can spend lots of time with him - he loves his walks and will settle so well afterwards - I would imagine he would be a dream companion for those working part-time or from home.

**************************
Foster Update

In the home Bingo is a calm, affectionate, fun loving boy. He loves snoozing away but is always up for a game too. He is very enthusiastic about life especially the parts that involve going on his walks, getting fed and getting a fuss. In fact he is a bit like a big cat - he like to rub against your legs! If you stop stroking him he will gently headbutt or nuzzle you to encourage you to continue. He is clean in the house and no trouble. He doesn't pester you when you eat or prepare food. He knows lots of commands including sit, down, leave, bed and is quickly picking up stay and come. He walks well on the lead and will relish all the exercise you can give him. He is very bright and responsive so I feel he will be easy to train - especially if you have got a treat or favourite toy!

***************************

Please get in touch if you can offer what Bingo needs, we so want to find Bingo his own home that he really deserves.

Rave
Rave
Rave

Rave is a black lurcher, about 3-4 years old who came within a whisker of being put to sleep until we were asked to take him in. Rave is quite an energetic boy, but fairly small, very sweet-natured and walks nicely on the lead. His training is progressing well as he is a very bright dog who loves to please you and he would probably do quite well at agility or similar! Rave is very affectionate and is never happier than when sat on your feet, keeping you company and for this reason we don't think Rave would enjoy being on his own for long periods of time. He responds really well to a happy balance between calm, firm leadership and cuddles and would just love to go to a home with an experienced dog owner and the promise of plenty of exercise and playtime, perhaps with older children or another dog. Rave is a gorgeous dog and if you're looking for a super family pet, he might be just the one for you!

Ifor

Ifor is a stunning little blue lurcher pup who we suspect may end up broken coated? Ifor is 12 weeks old.

We were told that Ifor's mum was a whippet and his dad a small lurcher...... but of course only time will tell what this little boy will grow into - but I think he will be a stunner!

Ifor has been living in a foster home alongside his 2 brothers who he arrived with and a large male Greyhound plus Tonic the cat.

Ifor's foster mum says this about him...

Ifor is up for any game. He loves to tumble with his brothers and does great circuits in and out of the house. He’s ready for more and his face says, ‘What we doing next?’ He plays a super game of fetch with a small ball for quite a while. Then he leans into a cuddle and has the makings of a soppy softy. He’s been known to find human feet to sit on. His manners have improved greatly and he loves to please. He’s one gem of a hound waiting for his family.

please get in touch if you have the time, patience and energy to home a young puppy like Ifor...

Foster update

Now an only pup in foster, Ifor is showing what a gentle, cuddly boy he is. He does delightful puppy manic circuits or kills a toy, then takes himself into his nest of a bed and snoozes away contentedly. He settles to be left and at night with no trouble. He is making great progress with toilet training. He’s very sociable with visitors and loves to go out and about to meet more people and have new experiences. He is a very bright little button and will be a joy to train.

Ivy

Ivy is two years old and was bred for racing. She obviously wasn't good enough to make the grade and so was destined to be put to sleep. Luckily for Ivy fate was on her side, and a guardian angel stepped in to save her. She came across to us from Ireland and is now ready to go to her new home.

As Ivy has lived in a foster home she has spent some time getting used to all that home life has to offer. She is a shy little girl who is friendly around other dogs and likes people too when she has given them the once over and decided they are friendly!

A home with another dog and no small children would be ideal for Ivy.

Rocco is not cat friendly but seems to get on fine with other dogs.

Holly is very loving and really wants to be loved but she is also a little bit shy and can cower before saying hello - we can only imagine why.

Holly is looking for a home where someone can spend time and have patience to bring her round - she is quite nervous of cars at the moment and doesnt like it when they pass by so a countryside home for Holly would be lovely.

Holly hasnt got a bad bone and she loves everyone and has been fine with all dogs - she is a sweet girl who just needs a chance.....

Billy is a 4 year old brindle greyhound. He has retired from racing now, his last registered race was in 2006. He has a lovely bouncy character, and likes nothing more than a good walk, after which he is quite happy to do what greyhounds do best and that’s sleep (interspersed with the odd cuddle and treat of course!) Billy would be suitable to live with a family who could give him all the attention that he deserves. He walks well on the lead and enjoys meeting other dogs, but could not live with a cat. What a sad story.
Shady has been in his home since he was a puppy his owners are moving house and cannot take this poor boy with them.
He is a Great Dane X Greyhound about the size of a greyhound bitch and he is eight years old so only wants a quiet life.
In his home he was living with two cats and allowing them to cuddle up with him they also had two other dogs so we know he is good with dogs.He is also very very good with small children and babies.
He sounds almost perfect doesn't he?
Shady's only fault is he does need to be with someone most of the time.
He is coping with kennels very well but this poor boy really does need a new and loving home.

I am a beautiful three year old boy with a handsome face and very loving nature. I get on really well with other dogs, big and small and may be able to live with cats although I will need some training to help me do this. I have lots and lots of affection to give and this can make me rather excitable in a very busy environment so I am looking for a new family who will be calm and consistent with me so I can just settle down and relax on my duvet without a care in the world (other than where my next biscuit is coming from of course!)

What a lovely girl Maggie is! She is a little nervous and looks to her human and doggy companions for comfort and security. She is a real "leaner" and loves a cuddle. Maggie is great with other dogs too.

Maggie's ideal home would be with other dogs in a home without small chidren. She is a beauty!

Rua is a dream.

A stunning, Red (hence the name!) smooth Saluki cross, he is calm and serene and he is looking for a special home.

Rua gets on well with other dogs and he is clean and quiet in his kennel. Rua is very steady and I can imagine he would fit well into any home which has made it hard to pin point the exact type of home he would actually do best in!

I personally feel Rua will come out of himself more and thrive in a busy home, perhaps with another sighthound and someone around to spend time with him - he loves his long walks in the countryside so someone who likes getting out and about to different interesting places would be good for Rua.

Buster

Buster is a lovely dog, about 5 years old and in great condition. Being such a handsome boy, he does like to make himself quite the centre of attention wherever he goes, his favourite trick being to roll on his back to have his tummy tickled (even on car parks at fundraising events, to the amusement of everyone around him!)

Buster has lived in a home before, but he came back to us as the family were struggling with his strong personality and he became very protective over toys and food. We have done a lot of work with him since his return and quite simply, with a strong leader to show him the way he is an absolute delight. Buster's manners are now impeccable, both in the kennels and out walking. He is learning to socialise with other dogs that he meets and he loves making friends with anyone that will give him a cuddle! However, for Buster to remain happy and relaxed it is essential that he goes to an experienced home who will maintain the boundaries and training that have been established in kennels. He has a good grasp of basic commands, learns quickly and with a confident owner, will make just the most wonderful pet. We do not think Buster should live with cats, small dogs or children, but he would perhaps do well with another greyhound.

This loving boy is so very ready for the right home - could he be the one for you?

Hamish
Hamish

My name is Hamish – I am only 2 years old and was abandoned along with my brother. I am the most stunning looking boy with a gorgeous orange brindle coat and the softest fur imaginable, complemented by my golden eyes. I am also extremely modest and completely unaware of how gorgeous I am (I was told to say that!!)

I am very friendly and happy and love going for walks - in fact I just love to be out and about as there is so much to see and learn.

I am still only very young so have a lot to learn and would like someone to teach me how to behave in the big wide world - it would be fantastic if you had a big garden I could run around in. I think I might also like a more mature greyhound to show me the ropes.

UPDATE: Hamish is very playful and continues to maintain his joie de vivre despite being in kennels for such a long time. He is enthusiastic and a quick learner and there is something about him that makes you smile. If he was allowed to come out of himself properly in the right home, we think he would be a real clown. If he can't encourage one of the volunteers to join in a game, he'll make his own up. He adores rolling on his back in the grass in the paddock and he also loves to eat. However, he shows no food aggression - he stares longingly at others eating and wonders why they haven't polished it off in 3 seconds flat!

This boy would make the most wonderful friend and is longing for that special home of his own.

EXTRA SPECIAL UPDATE:
We said above that he had the ability to be a real clown - well you have got to hear his special impersonation to believe it - does anyone else know a greyhound that can impersonate a human gargling with mouthwash? !! Brilliant.

Max is 3 years old. He is an ex-racer whose career on the track was cut short when he broke his hock back at the begining of the year. His owner didn't want him as he was unable to race, and so Max was passed on to race on a flapping track.

Happily Max never made it as far as the flapping track as he was handed into us to find a home for him. His leg is all fixed, and in an average home without the strains of the race track, his leg will be fine.

Max has half a tail, we don't know what happened to the other half, but the bit he has wags furiously when he is happy ~ which is most of the time!

He cannot go to a home with cats.

* Update 15/12/08 * why is Max still with us?? He is such a lovely chap yet he is passed over time and again. Max is a very loyal boy, who loves other greyhounds and really enjoys the company of humans too. Max will make a wonderfully loyal companion for one lucky person, will that be with you?

Dotty and Dora are saluki x puppies who are around 14 weeks old. They are litter sisters who were brought in to us by the Dog Warden when they were very tiny, just 5 weeks old. They were in a very poor condition, underweight and full of worms. As they were so tiny they needed a huge amount of care, and so were placed into a foster home.

What a transformation now! These girls are now in the best of health and are doing so well. They have been in a foster home with other dogs and are very well socialised. Dotty and Dora's foster parents have done a great job with the girls, teaching them to sit, playing with toys, and basically bringing them on.

They are now ready for re-homing, and will be homed seperately. Dotty and Dora would like to go to a home with other dogs for company and socialisation. They will of course be just fine to go with cats and chidren, and infact would simply love to live in a busy interactive household with lots going on.

Reg

Reg was rescued by GRWE along with his brother. He is 2 years old and is 3/4 greyhound with 1/4 alsatian.

He is definitely the more outgoing of the pair - a bigger dog with a tail that wags at supersonic speed - so much that we're having to watch he doesn't damage the end of it hitting the sides of the kennels with happiness!! He is incredibly affectionate and loves people and attention.

Like his brother. he seems to be happy around all kinds of dogs and may well live with a cat.

They have lived together all their lives so could, of course, be homed together if anyone would like to take on a magnificent ready made pair.

*** UPDATE ***
Reg's brother has now found his forever home and left him behind. Reg continues to wag his tail like a demon when he sees you and has now damaged it to the extent where he will have to have two thirds of it removed to prevent further injury and ensure it heals successfully. This, however, will not distract from his ability to show his love and delight and, indeed, will make him extra special. Could you be the one who will make his new tail wag again?

Freddie

Freddie is a special boy, he has been with us a fair while now and I would say he is ready for his own home now!

Freddie is GORGEOUS and only 16 months old - he has a great character and you will need a good sense of humour to adopt Freddie

Freddie is looking for a kind and patient home, he has little experience of life as he had a bad injury which left him crated for much of his puppyhood. He has made a recovery from that injury but it means Freddie is left with an odd gait and he has alot of swing through his back - he has been checked by our vet and does not appear to have any pain anywhere, we think his swing and gait are just a result of the injury. Freddie should be able to lead a normal life and we have definately seen a MASSIVE improvement in how he moves and plays in the paddocks.

Freddie will soon be going into a foster home as the next step for him but we are ready and happy to hear from potential new homes for Freddie! He is a clumsy clutz so any exsisting dogs will have to be patient too!! He will lean on anything or anyone so small children will be a no go for Freddie.

This little girl is around 6 years old. She came into us in a terrible state; underweight and covered in scars. She is an ex-working dog who has been used to hunt foxes and badger so we were told. The scars on her nose bear testament to that.

Bibi had recently had a litter of puppies which were taken off her and sold on ~ at 5 weeks old! Poor Bibi was full of milk and very undernourished from having looked after her puppies rather than herself.

When she first came into kennels Bibi was exhausted. She was also extremely nervous and would cringe when people came near her. Her tail is wagging and she is always pleased to see her friends the dog walkers when they come to visit her. Bibi is great around other dogs, but she cannot go to a home with cats.

Seanie has settled in very quickly and found his own special place in the pack of Greyhounds and a Labrador.

He is very inquisitive and will put his nose anywhere it will fit ! He is especially fond of our 1 year old granddaughter and will happily let her pat and stroke him.

On walks he is happy to check out every lamp post and tree, and even other dogs do not worry him but settles down to your walking pace.

Feeding him is a breeze as he will eat whatever is in front of him (and sometimes what is on the worktop!)

He gets on with the other dogs very well indeed, even the grumpy old Lab has now made friends.

He has been very clean in the house without much in the way of house training – he just copied his peers, to a point where they taught him to climb the stairs on the first day – what a fast learner he is !

I was found under a hedge in that really cold spell before Christmas but am none-the-worse for my experience and the vet says I am developing nicely. I am a bit of a superstar in the house – I know to go to the toilet outside, I am trained to use a crate and I have learned lots of new words like sit, down, stay, out, bed and of course “no” (although I don’t like that word as much as the others – it doesn’t seem to come with biscuits!) I used to be really scared in the car, but I have been out with my foster Mommy every day and now I love it and even get to go on adventures in my special harness in the GRWE van too! I have met quite a few dogs now, big ones and little ones and I think they are all great, especially the ones that will play with me. I quite like cats too, although they tend to keep out of reach which is no fun at all. Playtime is my favourite thing (along with eating and cuddles) and I have lots of toys that I like to fetch and chew. My foster Mommy says that I can be a bit boisterous and that I will need to go to a family who want to carry on my training and will make sure I have boundaries. I say that as long as boundaries have biscuits then this will be fine. If you think you can offer me the time, patience, affection and training that I need, then please get in touch with GRWE and I will be your best friend. Hope to meet you soon!

Update 29.12.08:
I have been out for my first proper walk and did very, very well, trotting along just like I had practised in the garden. I will sit before I cross the road and even walked in a noisy place with lots of traffic, just so long as I am right next to my foster Mommy and she tells me its ok!

Willow

Willow has come to GRWE as a stray so we know nothing about her past life.
We think she is about 4 years old and has a beautiful fawn coat which is in very good condition.
Willow is rather shy when she first meets you but soon forgets all about that when the treats are handed out.
This girl is quiet and shy but will soon learn to love you as well as her treats!
