Homing enquiry

To send us an enquiry about rehoming one or more of our dogs, please use the Homing Enquiry form below to tell us a bit about yourself and any key details about your home situation, e.g. any children, other pets, flat or house etc. Then simply add your details and hit 'Send'.

A member of the GRWE rehoming team will contact you to discuss your enquiry. Please be patient and remember that we are all volunteers. Thank you!

The dogs shown here are a selection of the many dogs in our care at any one time across England & Wales. The dogs available for rehoming change on a daily basis and, while we try to keep our website as up to date as possible, the specific dogs shown may already have found their new home.

Please note that our helpline operators are not able to provide more information about individual dogs or where they are kennelled but will act as a referral service, forwarding your details to the relevant rehoming officer who will endeavour to get in touch with you within 48 hours.

We assess all our dogs carefully and aim to give as much information about them as we can. Please give a thought to offering a home to a boy dog, especially the black ones - they are just as wonderful and trainable as the girls!

Please may we also request that when enquiring about a dog, you provide us with a landline number whenever possible to help reduce uneccesary strain on the charity's resources. Thank you in advance.

Wolfie

I just can't understand why Wolfie is still with us. He is the most handsome young chap and is so good natured.

He is around 2-3 years old and is currently living in foster with 3 dogs and young children.

He has come on so much in his foster home and is now more than ready for a home of his own. He's totally clean round the house and is very well trained. He sits and lies when told and is showing very good re-call in the garden, so will hopefully be able to go off lead in the future.

He walks well on the lead and is good with all breeds of dogs. He is fine with other dogs off lead and running around him too. He would however prefer not to live with cats!

All in all he is a lovely boy who would make a fabulous family pet. He would fine living as an only dog with someone around, or with another dog. He would benefit from someone to carry on this training as he is bright boy and loves to learn.

Wolfie is a real people dog. He LOVES people. He's great with children and loves nothing more than cuddling up to them and will take any opportunity to jump up on the settee or a bed for cuddles!

Jimmy

Jimmy
Jimmy
Jimmy

Jimmy is a smooth coated lurcher boy who has come over to us from Ireland where he was found wandering as a stray. He is only a young dog, perhaps around 2years old.

In Ireland Jimmy was in a foster home, but has now come to the UK in the chance of finding a home. Unfortunately all our foster homes here are full, and so Jimmy is in kennels which he really really hates...........please help him change all that!!!

We asked Jimmy what his ideal home would be like, and he told us that he misses the children in his foster home very much. He would also like to live with another dog, and ideally would love his new owners to be a fit active family who love an outdoorsy-type of life.

Jimmy cannot live with cats, but he is great with other dogs and people, including children. He is a fun-loving dog who has so much to give, and will repay your kindness a hundred fold.

Calli

Calli
Calli
Calli

Introducing Callie................

One morning we got a call about three litle lurchers in a pound who were going to be put to sleep that morning at 11am. Callie was one of them. The call was a last attempt to find them a rescue space, before they met an untimely end - one of them was a puppy..............

GRWE stepped in to help these little ladies, and brought them to safety. Callie is the most nervous of the three, and was nothing short of terrified when she first arrived. Her initial trip to the vets found her hiding under the chairs in the waiting room!

Several weeks on Callie has made great progress, and is learning that hands can mean kindness, and not just beatings. She has come such a long way from the frightened little girl who arrived with us........

Callie is only a youngster, probably no more than 18months to 2 years. She really needs a home with an older steady dog in it to help her settle and give her confidence. She needs a home without children, and without cats.

We loook forward to watching Callie flourish in her new home - she really is a super girl

Tommy

Tommy
Tommy
Tommy

Check out this lovely handsome boy! Tommy is his name and he is from the Emerald Isle.

Tommy was once a racer, but it appears he was left behind in his kennel when he was no longer of any use.......... he is just four and a half years old. Tommy, along with a large number of other greyhounds of all ages were brought to safety, as part of a large scale rescue mission involving many rescues, both here and in Ireland.

Tommy has been waiting for a rescue space within GRWE for some time, and has finally crossed the seas and arrived with us just before Christmas. He is yet another black male greyhound, like so many others in our care - but we hope you won't overlook him! Pink rather suits him don't you think??

Scoobie

Scoobie
Scoobie
Scoobie

Scoobie’s Wish List
A home with or without calm children
May be another dog to play with
Cuddles a plenty
Lots of Scoobie snacks!

Scoobie, like his friend Lyra has had a tough and awful life! He was rescued from an Irish pound where he faced the death sentence!

He was a little nervous of humans at first, but now loves his cuddles and walks, where he can spend his time scanning the horizon for exciting new things. He has been walked with big and small dogs and got on just fine. Scoobie is a Whippet X, roughly 3 to 4 years old and 26 inches to the shoulder. He is a lush blue colour but sadly this doesn’t really show in his pictures because they were taken before he had a shampoo and blow dry!

Scoobie is still on the skinny side but we think that once he is in a warm, comfortable and loving home the weight will soon pile on.

A message from Scoobie to his hopefully new home….

Scoobie doobie doo say’s WHERE ARE YOU : )

Kai

Kai
Kai
Kai

Meet Kai, he is a gorgeous saluki x boy of around 2 years old. Kai hasn't had the best start to his life; he was found in Ireland as a stray in really poor condition last year.
He has lived in a home but sadly for him it wasn't the right home, and he found it a very stressful experince. He has since been in a fantastic foster home where he has been for the past month and the change in him is unbelievable.
This is what his foster home say about him:
He is currently living with another male Lurcher, a 10 year old female Labrador, a 4 year old Rottweiler x, 2 ferrets and 2 children 8 and 4.
Kai has been perfectly clean in the house and has been left for up to 3 hours on his own or with our Labrador as company.
He came to us with a few issues and after an interesting first week, he is becoming a wonderful confident dog.
Walking him on the lead is a pleasure, although he can get nervous at approaches by other dogs but his growing confidence is starting to come through.
He recently took part in a local dog show, which would have been impossible 2 weeks ago, and came away with a “highly commended” rosette.
Kai loves nothing more than playing games in the garden especially football and racing around the lawn with our male lurcher. After this he will happily crash out and sleep.
Some work has been done on his training in the past and he will do a sit and his recall is almost evident!!!!
He loves other peoples attention and has been fantastic with children of all ages.
We feel Kai will be best with a calm confident female dog or possibly on his own where he can receive all the love and attention he richly deserves. He needs a calm and confident owner - is that you and can you give this lovely boy the home he so desparately needs?

Maud

Maud
Maud
Maud

Pretty girl Maud has spent her life on the racetrack and has only been used to living inside kennels. Consequently it was a bit of a shock for her when she and her brother Paddy were handed in by their owner when he retired them from racing only a few months ago. Paddy has coped much better than Maud. Maud’s walks are not now quite such the traumatic affair that they used to be although she will tend to pull on the lead. She has got used to traffic but is still a little overawed by some of the things she encounters in the outside world.

Maud is 4 years old; she is delightfully friendly when she has a calm moment. This is not to say that her day is spent being boisterous but her initial contact with anyone tends to send her into “bouncy” mode for a while. Once settled she loves a cuddle and fuss, not to mention the odd treat or two of course!

With firm guidelines Maud will soon grasp what is required of her when living in a home. It will be a pleasure to see her lovely nature blossom.

P.S. Sorry, Maud is not cat friendly

Jet is a stunning older greyhound boy who is looking for a comfy and warm home to move into.

Jet is currently living with 2 other sighthounds and we think he likes their company so would like a friend in his new home -
Jet spent his whole life in kennels until coming to us this summer so it has taken him some time to adjust to pet life as a greyhound but he is learning and is really starting to enjoy it.

Please get in touch if you have a special place for a golden oldie.

Thank you x

Almond - *Update 11/1/12*

This delightful lurcher girl is a bundle of fun. She adores people and is good with children. Almond is about two and a half years old.

Almond’s type of home will be one where she can join in with the family fun and at the same time benefit from some training. Experience of sighthounds would be preferable for anyone wanting to offer this lovely girl a home.

When she’s with people Almond is in her element and delights in cuddling up to you. She is a lively little girl with tons of personality who would be super to train. She already knows "sit" and loves to please.

Update 19/12/11 - In Foster

Lucky girl Almond is in a foster home now and is known as Honey – it rolls off the tongue more easily to help with her training! She’s having the time of her life with several other dogs and is beginning to appreciate that they are her friends. Her housetraining is coming on leaps and bounds.

Honey is now sleeping out of her crate at night and there’s a suspicion that she spent the first night of freedom on the settee by the Rayburn (sensible girl!).

As her foster carer describes her, Honey is a real “cuddle monster”.

If you are looking for a young lurcher girl with oodles of personality who will repay your kindness threefold, then this lovely girl is the one for you.

11/1/12 New photos of Honey with her foster home chums. Looks like a tough life!

Enzo Ferrari - In Foster

Meet our middle aged gentleman Enzo.

Enzo has moved into foster and has taken to home life like a duck to water. He is excellent in the home, extremely well mannered, clean and quiet. In typical greyhound style he is happy to snooze the time away if nothing is happening.

He is currently living alongside 2 other greyhounds and a crossbreed dog.

Having only just retired at the age of 6 and half, Enzo still has quite a keen eye for movement and for this reason he should be kept on lead whilst out walking.

Enzo will make a wonderful pet and a great companion so please enquire about him today.

Billy

Billy

Billy

Billy's photographs really don't do him justice. He is a stunning 3 year old Bull Lurcher.
2011 has not been a good year for Billy up until now. Before coming to GRWE he had been in a pound for 10 months and has experienced isolation and lack of socialisation. Understandably because of this, he has got a lot of catching up to do and is making up for lost time.

His wish for next year would be a home that is going to help him get used to being out in the big wide world again. Billy responds well to clicker training and is a real foodie who loves cheese.

Billy is going to need an understanding family who are going to be willing to work with this lovely boy to discover the affectionate, intelligent dog that he is. He is a work in progress who promises to reward the commitment of his new owners with 100% loyalty.

Joey *new update*

Joey *new update*
Joey *new update*
Joey *new update*

Joey is a young, smallish brindle lurcher, standing at approx 25 inches to the shoulder. We have been advised that he is one year old and will have confirmation of that shortly as we think he may be a little bit older.

He is a very friendly boy and gets on well with our other dogs on his walks which he loves. Joey walks well on the lead but can get excitable if he sees a squirrel or pheasant, but then most dogs will won’t they! He is not cat friendly.

Joey came to us from Ireland as a stray so we have no knowledge of his background – we just know that he is a very lovable boy.

Joey would love a nice comfy sofa and/or bed so that he will be able to snuggle up during the winter months to come. No doubt he'll be hoping that it's not quite as cold as it was last year!

*Update 1/12/11*

Our vets think Joey is more likely nearer two and a half years old.

*Update 16/1/12 – New Photos of Joey*

The first photo shows Joey wearing his “Under Assessment” jacket whilst being walked with another kennel dog in the local town. The middle photo was taken when Joey was on his way to town and the last one shows Joey waiting patiently at the end of his trip whilst his kennel chum was being photographed too.

Joey was quite calm walking through town and neither the traffic nor other people caused him any concern.

Idris *updated 24/01*

Idris *updated 24/01*
Idris *updated 24/01*
Idris *updated 24/01*

Idris is 4 years old. He is very small and petite for the boy & is sharing his foster home with a greyhound girly!

Idris is a really calm and easy dog. He has settled in the home and is fine to be left with another dog for company. He walks well on the lead and is now walking past small dogs calmly and without issue. Like many ex-racers he still can get excited by movement in the distance, but this is easily dealt with and he doesn't pull on the lead.

Iggy is very calm, affectionate lad and enjoys cuddles from whoever and whenever he can. He likes ‘people’ company and will lie quietly watching you while you do odd jobs in the house. (He has an ability to curl up in the smallest of spaces!) He is learning to relax and would love his own comfy sofa/bed to chill out on.
However, he also loves to play with toys and responds very well to ‘kong’ type toys that occupy him for sometime while he figures them out. He is also showing a lovely playful side.
We have a steady stream of children through our house (from 6yrs plus) as well as our own 10 and 11 year old and Iggy has been excellent with them all and enjoyed their company. (Well they are another source to get cuddles from!!)
He has responded quickly to basic command training and should respond well to further training. This will be helped by the fact that he is food motivated!
Iggy really will make a fantastic family dog and a lovely companion in return for lots of cuddles!"

Idris would love to be homed with another dog and would be fine to live with young children. He does like to be left in peace when sleeping so any children he is homed with need to be of an age to understand this. We would love to see this gentle and loving boy settled into a permanent home.

Freddy
Freddy

Freddy’s wish list:
A family with or without children!
Would happily live with another dog/s for company!
Cuddles on tap!
More cuddles!

Freddy is our utterly gorgeous fawn Lurcher Greyhound. He is between 2 and 3 years old and is a small 27 inches to the shoulder. He has been a star with all humans and dogs he has met so far. Freddy does love his cuddles and will spend all day just standing there being stroked. Freddy was rescued from an Irish pound, doesn’t like loud noises or very loud voices – he will just back away and be really quiet, but silly voices make him happy again. We love Freddy and we are sure you will too. He is the sort of lad that once you meet him you just cant help falling in love!

His best friend at the moment is Lulu the Shih Tzu puppy : )

Stanley

Stanley
Stanley
Stanley

Stanley is a 4-5year old lurcher with beautiful light brindle markings. He was found as a stray, so we don't know his past but we suspect he may have been an outdoor dog.

Stanley just loves fuss and attention and he's been great with all the dogs he's met. But he can be a bit overwhelmed in new situations and shy at first. It doesn't take long for his tail to start wagging again.

Stanley's very special trademark are his feet! They are very flat and splayed at the moment, but they do not bother him at all.

Stanley is looking for a family who is experienced with larger dogs. He would just love to live somewhere rurally with plenty of space to explore.

Half Pint - AKA Robbie
Half Pint - AKA Robbie

Let Robbie entertain you.

He came into our care from the pound so we know little of his history.

Robbie is about 8 months old and is half the calories of a greyhound, topping the scales at a mere 14 kilos, making him very portable.

He is very cute, sweet, loving, affectionate and ..... time consuming.

Robbie is at a very important stage in his life where he is looking for people willing to train him and teach him boundaries. He is a live wire and will need lots of exercise.

Please get in touch if you have the right home to offer our overgrown pup.

Maggie

Maggie

Maggie

Maggie is a 7 year old greyhound who has come to us from Ireland. She is a lovely girl who is coming out of her shell, getting used to the world outside of racing kennels and is adjusting well to the change in her surroundings.

Maggie is a quiet, unassuming kind of girl who would love to have a home of her own where she could stretch out on her own cosy bed, or sofa once she discovers them!

So if you have room in your home to allow Maggie to blossom and to have the life she deserves please get in touch.

Update - 1/1/12

Maggie would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. This is Maggie's year, and she will at last experience a home of her own! In preperation for that moment before christmas maggie moved into a foster home with some other greyhound chums, and is doing famously. This lovely happy girl is busy lapping up everything a loving foster home has to offer, and taking everything in her stride.

Harley

Harley
Harley
Harley

Harley’s Wish List
A dog savvy human that can teach him about home life
No really small dogs – yet
Maybe another big dog for company
Would happily live with teenagers

Harley is our lovely black and white Greyhound lad, he is 3 and a half years old and 28 inches to the shoulder, he only finished racing a few weeks ago and has already started to settle into the ‘quiet life’. Harley is very well behaved in his kennel and on the lead, but he hasn’t really met many small dogs so finds them a little fascinating, but we think with time and more introductions he will soon learn they are just as boring as the bigger 4 legged variety. Harley absolutely adores a cuddle oh and then more cuddles : )

Since Harley has been with us he has really chilled out, he is more than happy after a walk to have a very long lie down.

If you think you can offer Harley the home is so wants to be in, please get in touch

this adorable, bright little girl is AVA.
Ava was born into GRWE on Sept 3rd 2011 so she is still very young and is looking for a very good home to take her on and love her for life.

Ava's mum Julie is a small lurcher, dad is rumoured to be a collie... but who knows? Julie was already pregnant when she arrived in our care.

Ava has been living with other dogs and she is a very playful sociable pup with a lovely nature, she gets on well with all shapes and sizes of dog, she loves children and is a generally well behaved nice little girl.

Ava has been busy learning about life and enjoys running off lead, has brilliant recall.. knows sit, has almost mastered stay! All the basics are in place, Ava just needs the right home to take her forward.....

Please get in touch if you think you can offer Ava consistent training, patience, love and are around enough to nurture and bring up a puppy.
Puppies are demanding, they chew your shoes, they wee on the floor and wake up early!

Loveable Lizzie

Loveable Lizzie
Loveable Lizzie
Loveable Lizzie

Lizzie is a gorgeous - in her own way!!! - greyhound girl who came in with 12 yr old Jill - now homed, and 10 yr old Scooby - now a permanent foster dog.
So just Liz left waiting then...

Liz had been kept by her trainer after racing but had not really got the retirement she dreamed of, kept in the garden and left to get very overweight and her teeth slowly rotting away.. Liz needed 24 teeth removing when she first arrived in our care.
We do not think that Liz got out much either.... well how things change....
Liz has now lost 4 kilos and is fittening up nicely... she is starting to shed her incredibly thick polar bear coat and her lovely blue is showing through well! Liz will soon be unrecognisable and well... we cant wait to see those pics! for now Im afraid you will need to see past the rather unflattering ones we have of her....

We love Lizzie and so does her foster mum... here is what she says about this 10.5 year old puppy!

Well, what can I say about Lizzie? She's a gorgeous girlie with a coat like a teddy bear! It's early days, but so far Lizzie hasn't put a paw wrong! She is a confident dog, loving her walks and her food, and pottering round the garden. She wasn't bothered at all about going to see the vet, and took it all in her stride when we had surprise visitors on Saturday. She is showing a couple of typical greyhound traits - rather too much interest in squirrels and cats, and the idea that humans really don't have anything better to do than give her cuddles! Lizzie was fine when we had some teenage children to visit. In fact, at the tender age of 10.5 years, Lizzie is very young at heart and has a whole world to explore. She hasn't had to stay home alone yet, but I think she'll miss human company more than the company of any canine friends!!! I can't wait to see this girl emerge from her cocoon - she has already discovered the delights of showing the teddy bears who's boss.

Liz is very food oriented and will counter-surf. She has learnt to keep her distance when humans are eating, and a sharp "NO" will prevent her from helping herself out of another dog's bowl! In fact, she is generally responsive and with time (and treats!) she could be a very obedient girl.

I believe Lizzie will really flourish in a home as an only dog - she loves attention, and would really rather not have to share it!! Outside the house Lizzie is happy to meet other dogs, large and small, but cats wisely give her a wide berth.

Ben

Ben
Ben
Ben

Ben’s Wish List
A home all of his own
Lots of fun and exciting walks
Cuddles a plenty
Someone who loves the Big Black Boys

Ben is a big, black and beautiful Greyhound boy, which is what we LOVE about him! He is a 4 year old retired racer and around 28.5 inches to the shoulder. He has been a very lucky boy during his life as he had a lovely trainer who took great care of him. He has met small dogs and big dogs, humans big and small and has been fine. He walks well on the lead once he is out and about, is used to traffic and from what we have seen so far, an utterly gorgeous, well-adjusted, fab lad and really loves his cuddles.

It would be really nice if we could get Ben into a home as soon as possible, so this lad can really hang up his kennel shoes and snuggle up in your living room.

*****UPDATED*****
We took Ben to a collection last week and he was an utter superstar – so well behaved, loved having cuddles from all the children and adults. Ben stood quietly and calmly in the cold for hours whilst noisy trolleys wheeled past him, strange dogs of all sizes and crowds of human. WOW – What a star : )

Bonnie - 9yr old whippet

Bonnie - 9yr old whippet

Bonnie is a beautiful whippet girl who came to us recently from her pet home where she has lived since puppyhood. Bonnie spent most of her life as an only dog - only the last two years she shared with Lola, so we feel Bonnie will be happier back on her own.

Bonnie is in foster with several other dogs! here is what her foster mum says about her......

Bonnie bossy boots what she lacks in size she makes up in attitude, she will rule your house from the sofa.
Bonnie has a sweet nature and nice manners but if you have another dog she will soon have it right under the thumb and you to if you give her half a chance!
Bonnie lords it over my lot quite happily and they let her. She is a lovely little girl who will melt your heart in two seconds flat I could eat her up and for me to say that is something as I dont do small dogs, shes pert and lively full of fun great to take out, nice on the lead, very responsive, pays attention when you speak to her an all round nice lady.

Bonnie will be an interesting companion with lots of charm and lots of love.

Iris
Iris

Iris is a beautiful fawn and white rough coated lurcher girl, Iris came to us from the stray pound so we have no previous history but this girl is soo friendly and loving and well socialised, behaved etc thats it hard to believe she wasnt once a well brought up pet.

Iris loves other dogs and loves people and company so a fairly busy or active home would suit her - she would hate to be an only dog and left whilst someone worked or left her long hours.

Iris is lots of fun and will enjoy everything you do with her, she is a nice mature adult age - we would guess around 5 - 7 years old.

Iris is great with children and dogs - she is yet to be chicken, horse and cat tested..
please get in touch to express an interest in Iris.

George

George
George
George

This is George who is a very special dog and needs a special home. He is a huge favourite at the kennels. His progress since the day he arrived has been slow but very rewarding to see. When George came to us from Ireland it was obvious he had been kept inside with very infrequent contact with the outside world, if any at all. So, George is gradually getting to grips with the world. He is just 2 years old and quite a stunning, powerful and muscular dog.

When he arrived George was unable to make eye contact with anyone and would huddle on his bed in the corner of his kennel hoping no-one would notice him. It was also difficult to walk him anywhere without him becoming extremely stressed. Although he is a strong boy, George is not aggressive; in fact he’s quite a gentle boy. It’s not people he’s wary of but the big outside world. He seems to be happy enough indoors and is quite inquisitive about his surroundings and will poke his nose through doorways to see what’s going on. Taking him outside is a different matter and sometimes the brakes will be applied, signalling he’s had enough for today, thank you. However over the past weeks he has improved immensely and the fact that we were actually able to take him to the vets for routine neutering was quite amazing. He often spends time with the kennel staff in the kitchen at coffee breaks or lunchtime and is happy to accept treats (of course!), generally mooch around and chill out on his bed.

George would benefit immensely from being in a calm home where he can gradually come to terms with normal daily life. His continuing introduction to the outside world will take time and patience but that’s all he needs and it will be such a rewarding experience to see this handsome dog become all right with the world! We are confident that life in a home will accelerate this improvement.

Take a look at his tail in the photo – we have never seen it wag but we know it will, given time, and the day that happens one huge hurdle will have been overcome. Over the past few months life for George has been made up of a series of hurdles and so far he has taken each of those hurdles in his stride. Could you take over from where we would like to leave off and dedicate more time than we can to help George? Life for George has now got to be in a home not kennels!

Please get in touch with us if you feel you are able to help George.

He has settled very well into home life and loves to cuddle up on the sofa with his people.

Snowy is a wonderful girlie who has come to us from a dog pound where she was due to be put to sleep. She is only a babe, around 2 or 3 years old.

We re-homed Snowy into a home, but sadly before Christmas her owners returned her to us, saying they could not housetrain her.........

Snowy is a very affectionate gentle loving litle girl who adores people and loves her cuddles. She is great with other dogs and children, and she has lived with both in her home. Snowy's ideal home is with another dog, and we would like to see her settled with a steady older dog to be her rock and give her confidence, and show her the ropes.

We are hoping that Snowy's forever home will give her the time and patience that she needs to settle in and learn the ropes. We love her to bits!

Sophie has been in our care for some time, spending some time in a home, but she is now back in kennels where she has a routine and consistency, she is a very happy little girl and everyone falls in love with her....
Sophie has a very quirky nature and someone really will need to take her on knowing she is not like a normal dog - Sophie is not nervous and in fact is a very lovely little girl... she just doesnt have the same reactions as more handled dogs and will take time to bond, trust and understand what you are asking of her, you will need to think outside of the box and really want to bring this girl on. She is adorable and worth the time and paitence

Sophie is quiet and calm in the home, she loves her dinner times and dances around like a baby deer - very cute to see... Sophie sleeps well all night and is fine about being left for a few hours in the day. Sophie does not like crates or confinement so small rooms and shut away will not suit her, she will be better left on hard floors initially and through the night as she is not 100% housetrained yet

Sophie is looking for a patient owner/s who will understand that she still has a long way to come.. Sophie is learning about lead walking but hasnt quite mastered walking forward and keeping the momentum! A garden is a must esp for the early days until Sophie has adjusted and learnt where you walk - she likes her routines! Sophie will need another dog to live with.

Sophie is going to be an ongoing developer and she will be very rewarding to "get there" if you have the right outlook to bring Sophie one - and alot of it will just take time... then please, get in touch and give us your details.

Sonny

Sonny
Sonny
Sonny

This wonderful soft, handsome face belongs to Sonny, a male greyhound who is around 3 years old.

Sadly he has spent the last few months in a dog pound having been picked up as stray and although that is behind him now, he really does deserve to be in a loving home.

He is a friendly dog to both people and other dogs, he gets on well with other dogs that he meets out on his walks. He would however prefer to live as an only dog and will make someone a loyal loving companion.

Sonny has been out and about to GRWE events and has enjoyed his outings not putting a paw wrong. He loves the attention of people he meets.

Sonny has had a tough time since finishing racing, could you help him start a new, happy retirement and show him that life really can be good?

Reggie *has lived in a home*

Reggie is looking for his perfect home and, like Reggie, we are hoping he won’t have to wait long.

He is missing the delights of a comfy sofa and is so looking forward to enjoying some daily cuddles again. Reggie is a delight in the home. He is housetrained, laid back and great with adults and children alike.

Reggie is 4 years old and as you can see has a short tail. You only have to mention his name while he’s lying on his bed and his stumpy little tail wags nineteen to the dozen.

Poor Reggie is frightened of some dogs – not all types. Usually he is stressed by dogs barking and small dogs, particularly if they are running loose.

Reggie will be a wonderful addition to the household. Apart from looking forward to a comfy sofa and bed again he would like an owner who has experience of greyhounds. Someone one who is able to help Reggie with his fears and who can make him feel secure.

Come and see Reggie . . . . he would love to see you! He's patiently waiting.

Jasper's Wish List
A home with or without children
A home with or without dogs
Plenty of cuddles
A human friend for life

Please meet Jasper!
Jasper is our ultra cute, lemon brindle, Saluki x lad. He is around 2 years old and 28 inches short! Jasper was found wandering as a stray in a terrible state. He was suffering with severe malnutrition, frostbite, wounds on his back and tail, nasty slashes in the pads on his paws and a very large lump on his foreleg. Poor Jasper was so filthy, that the water ran dark green, when we washed him it took 4 washes to get him clean! But now he is a completely different story…..

Jasper has been in foster since before Christmas and has put on weight and the sign of his old life is slowly beginning to heal. He is such an adorable calm natured dog on one hand but then he does have quite a playful side and loves to play with his 2 foster Greyhound brothers. So far he has been a star with all dogs and children he has met, is house trained, chilled yet playful and just an utter fab boy.

Mia

Mia is a delightful three year old greyhound who came to us from Ireland. She is such an affectionate and sweet girl, who will thoroughly enjoy snuggling up to you and keeping you warm and cosy on those long cold winter nights! Mia is looking for a home where she can share lots of cuddles! Are you up for the challenge?

Update:
Mia spent a short time in a foster home for assessment recently. As you can see from her photos she settled in extremely well, finding her pride of place on the sofa! We do not know her background, so she may have never lived in a home before. Poor Mia has had a lot of upheaval over the past month and she just needs some stability in her life. She is a such an affectionate girl, we are sure she will make someone a very loyal companion.

Cooper

Cooper is a Saluki-cross lurcher, about 2 years old. He was found as a stray, so we don't know much about his past, but we think he probably used to live outdoors.

He is a lovely friendly dog, he meets other dogs and people with the waggiest tail you could imagine. He is very playful, but also has a bit of a cheeky side to him.

Cooper is looking for an experienced and active new home, with someone who will enjoy teaching him good house manners. He is only medium sized, but quite strong and incredibly smart. He would certainly love to take up a fun and energetic activity like agility or Cani-X etc with his new family.

Lyra - In Foster

Lyra - In Foster

Lyra’s Wish List
An understanding human
Calm quiet household
Maybe older children
A hound for company

Lyra the Lurcher really has had a tough and awful life! She was rescued from an Irish pound where she faced the death sentence!
Lyra has not had the best start to life and probably hasn’t had much positive human contact. She is a little nervous at first but is getting better and better each day. Small spaces slightly unnerve her but when she realises you aren’t going to beat her she is ok. Lyra has been walked with small and big dogs and seems absolutely fine. We do think Lyra would be best off with a kind and gentle family who will continue to bring her on, as we think she will soon be such a loving lass. Lyra is only a babe at around 18 months old, she is roughly 24 inches to the shoulder and walks well on the lead. If she see’s something move in the distance she is quite alert so we think she has been worked at some point, and judging from her scars and part of her tail missing this is the sad life she has probably led.

*****UPDATED*****
Lyra is now in foster and is currently living with…. A Doberman, Boxer, Greyhound and JRTxGSD. Lyra is coming out of her shell, she loves to spend her time lying on her bed and playing biteee face with her canine companions. So far she has been clean in the house and is quiet at night time and crate trained.

If you think you can offer Lyra the home she deserves, please get in touch as soon as possible as we really want her to start a new and happy life as quickly as possible.

Pasha

Pasha
Pasha

Pasha is a lovely 22" large pedigree whippet boy, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He is confident, outgoing and friendly, loves everyone, is good with children and other dogs, in car, and has no vices. He is 4 years old and will be 5 in February '12. Pasha is a loving, very cuddly, sofa dog and is also fun. He can live with a cat in his own family, but is liable to pursue and catch cats coming into a garden or out on walks, so is not cat-safe outside his home. He does not pursue wildlife or livestock, is good on walks and does not run off. He can live on his own or with another dog, and will make a lovely companion. Pasha is still living with his current owner. Should you be interested in Pasha, please contact us as normal and we will make the necessary arrangements.

Dandi - stunning whippy pup

Dandi - stunning whippy pup
Dandi - stunning whippy pup
Dandi - stunning whippy pup

We do not know much about his start in life but Dandy is the finest, chipper little white and brindle whippy/lurcher puppy you could hope to meet.
He looks so appealing and also is charming. He’s a calm and gentle little man who’s already learnt about the home comforts of soft beds and radiators.

Dandy is in foster with a young lurcher and a cat so is learning his place in the pecking order. Dandy’s very respectful of his elders and definitely of the cat who stands no nonsense. We think he’s about 4/5 months old weighing in just under 10kg.

Dandi walks nicely on the lead and seems to be house trained as no accidents in his foster home where he’s taken out when he goes to the door.

Dandy is being crate trained which he’s taking to nicely but he does like the tv or radio on so he doesn’t feel alone.

We are looking for a lovely home for Dandi with somebody around most of the time and dedicated to putting in the time and work required to raise an all round nice pup.

Tommy

Tommy is a spritely two year old greyhound, who never made it to the racetrack. The lucky lad found himself in our care and is now waiting to find his forever home. He is a happy, friendly and playful boy who has never experienced life outside kennels. He will need an active home, with someone who has the time and patience to introduce him to other breeds, and show him the outside world. For this reason we recommend that Tommy is homed without other dogs, so that his new home can dedicate their time to teaching him about every day life

Widget. Tiny whippet x terrier

Widget. Tiny whippet x terrier
Widget. Tiny whippet x terrier
Widget. Tiny whippet x terrier

Hi, my name is Widget and I'm about a year old.  People say that I could be a Whippet cross Terrier of some sort.  I love being around people and having lots of cuddles but can get a bit sad when I move somewhere new and I'm left alone.  Once I know the hoomans come back and I have a routine I'm happier and go to sleep in my crate like a good boy.  I'm nice and quiet over night and likes a lie in.

Because I'm still young I really like playing with other dogs, but my foster mum says I need to learn some manners about meeting new dogs nicely.  I've never been to school either, so apparently I need to do that - yawn - but my fostermum says that I'm very responsive to what she says - what ever that means!

I can run really really fast and love chasing my foster sister around the garden.  I'm not allowed to run about outside the garden yet, as I don't know my name.  I also love toys, especially furry, squashy ones and I gather them up and put them in my bed along with the odd shoe or boot.

Widget's fostermum says:

Widget is a very affectionate little chap and really loves attention, but needs to be made to have time alone so he doesn't become to needy.  He's very gentle and will let you handle him, check his feet, ears etc and you can remove his food bowl with no problems what so ever.  As he's only  just been neutered and was also a stray, when his hormones settle and he's had some training I think he'll be a cracking little fun dog.

Simon - In Foster

Simon - In Foster

It is now time to introduce you to Simon.

He has not made his debut on the website until now even though he has been with us since early November. This was due to Simon needing an op on one of his beautiful ears. Thanks to his wonderful foster family Simon is now all healed up and ready to go home hunting.

Simon was a nervy lad before going into foster. His fosterers have invested time and TLC in him and it shows. He is a lovely lad and seeing as he has done so well we are looking to replicate his current living arrangements.

He would like to live with other dogs and he loves children over the age of 8. He would also enjoy the adults of his new home to take time to interact with him.

If this sounds like your home, please contact us about Simon.

Livvie

Livvie
Livvie
Livvie

Livvie is a lovely 2 year old blue greyhound. She is timid around new people but is very loyal and devoted when she learns to trust people.

Livvie is very laid back and has a sweet nature. She loves to lie on her sofa and have her tummy rubbed, chase soft toys around the room and chew sponges!

She sleeps through the night and can be left for 4-5 hours with no problems. She’s also house trained (will ask to be let out) and doesn’t steal food.

She can get easily spooked by people and noises outside, so walks can sometimes be very short. However, she has previously lived with other dogs and would happily go for walks with them so probably having a more confident dog for company would be good for her.

Livvie would be best suited to an experienced dog owner who could spend some time socializing her with other dogs and people. She is not child friendly but loves the company of adults she is comfortable with.

Paddy

Paddy is known as our little pony! Yes he’s quite a big boy and lovely with it.

He’s a delight on the lead . . . . well, most of the time – he naturally gets quite excited if he happens to spot a rabbit or squirrel then you suddenly find that you do have a little pony on the end of the lead!

Paddy is four years old. When he was retired from racing his owner handed him, and his sister Maud, over for rehoming. He’s a friendly, happy go lucky type of dog and would make a wonderful companion.

Lola

Lola

Lola came into us recently with Bonnie - an older whippet. Lola was bought as a pup and has always lived in a home.. she has moved to foster... here is what her foster mum says about her..

Lola is a little girl who needs to blossom she is very submisive to Bonnie and I think parting them will do her good.
Lola needs a dog to accept her on equal terms she likes all mine very much and plays well with Pip my huge deerhound.
Lola is a staffordshire bull terrier x whippet and just like her sbt line she is a vocal girl who talks quite a lot and once you realise what she wants communication is very easy.
She is sweet by nature nice to have around a generous little girl who will be a loving friend for you and your other dogs.

Abs.. Cat Trainable

Abs.. Cat Trainable
Abs.. Cat Trainable

Abs is a gorgeous greyhound lad who has found himself back in kennels after two years in a home. Abs was rehomed straight from his owner/trainer back in 2008 and has been living happily in a home where he was a frequent and welcome visitor at the local pub, sadly Abs owners circumstances changed when he realised he was no longer able to care for Abs as Abs needed.

Abs has come to us to hopefully find a new home again, he is quite underweight at the moment and not looking his best, he did have a mouthful of rotting teeth and needed a major dental. Abs lost alot of teeth but he has made a good recovery and is obviously starting to feel better as he has a real spring in his step and a cheeky spark appearing in his eyes!

Abs is a gorgeous dog who deserves his next home to be his last - at 7 yrs old he would have rather been well and truly loved, settled and adored by now.....

Abs is walked easily with other greys and some small dogs and seems quite accepting of other breeds.. Abs is moving into a foster home this week so more reports will follow..

please get in touch to get this boy back on the sofa!

UPDATE - Abs had a very positive, respectful and calm meeting with our cat Arwen this morning - she was very relaxed with him too so with the right intros, guidance and cat co-operation! we feel Abs will be able to live alongside his feline friends!

Frazier *cat friendly* Update

Frazier *cat friendly* Update
Frazier *cat friendly* Update
Frazier *cat friendly* Update

Three year old Frazier is a very handsome and unusual looking light brindle lurcher. Frazier came to us from Ireland and has now had time to settle down and recover from his long journey. When he was in Ireland he was in a foster home for a while, however he soon settled back into the routine of kennel life.

Frazier has been tested cat friendly. Of course homing him to a home with cat(s) will require all the usual precautions. I have seen him stroll past a cat with hardly the bat of any eyelid!

Frazier will not be placed with a family who has young children however older teenagers will be fine. He will need another dog for company and someone with previous sighthound knowledge. Frazier is clean in the house.

Frazier was born with a club foot (aaah!) but it is barely noticeable. This does not cause him any problems despite the fact that he will hold it in the air sometimes. In case it should cause any problems later on we will not be rehoming Frazier to a very active household. His foot will have no affect on his insurance.

Once you have gained his trust and confidence Frazier will be a very loyal and loving companion.

Update: 27/1/12

Frazier has well and truly settled since his long trip from Ireland. He gets on well with our other kennel dogs and was perfectly at ease when he joined in on one of our regular Greyhound Walks recently. We hope you like his new photos!
