To send us an enquiry about rehoming one or more of our dogs, please use the Homing Enquiry form below to tell us a bit about yourself and any key details about your home situation, e.g. any children, other pets, flat or house etc. Then simply add your details and hit 'Send'.

A member of the GRWE rehoming team will contact you to discuss your enquiry. Please be patient and remember that we are all volunteers. Thank you!

The dogs shown here are a selection of the many dogs in our care at any one time across England & Wales. The dogs available for rehoming change on a daily basis and, while we try to keep our website as up to date as possible, the specific dogs shown may already have found their new home.

Please note that our helpline operators are not able to provide more information about individual dogs or where they are kennelled but will act as a referral service, forwarding your details to the relevant rehoming officer who will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

We assess all our dogs carefully and aim to give as much information about them as we can. Please give a thought to offering a home to a boy dog, especially the black ones - they are just as wonderful and trainable as the girls!

Please may we also request that when enquiring about a dog, you provide us with a landline number whenever possible to help reduce uneccesary strain on the charity's resources. Thank you in advance.

Roo

Roo is a big friendly boy and is 3 years old. He absolutely LOVES people and just wants to be with them all the time! Presently he is in a foster home with a dominant female greyhound who can be very bossy with him, but he just takes it all in his stride. He's fine with other dogs, but he doesn't think much of cats! Roo walks very well on the lead & we have been able to watch him off lead in a totally enclosed paddock. He doesn't always charge off as you might expect - he just lopes around & enjoys all the smells! He will also play with a toy for a short while & is learning to respond to his name.

He has come on massively since being in foster. He is now able to be left for decent periods without any problems. We think he would prefer to live with another dog to have as a friend, but this could be any breed as he loves all canines!

Roo loves his home comforts and spends a lot of time snoozing on his bed. He will be an amazing companion & great fun to be with - he has such a lovely personality. There MUST be a lovely home for him out there. Is it YOURS ????

Roger

Roger
Roger

Roger is a 3 yr old dog who has been handed over to us as he was not good enough to race, he is a lovely tempered boy who's tail never stops wagging, he loves cuddles and leans on you. Roger is good with children and other dogs, he walks nicely on the lead and is very affectionate, if you stop tickling him he will gently nudge you, he is a lovely boy who needs his own home.

Herbie

Herbie
Herbie
Herbie

Herbie is our Clown!!!! Herbie came to our collection on Saturday and his tail did not stop wagging for the whole 4 hours!!! He loves everyone and wants to say hello to everything!!!

Herbie is still so new to the big wide world and everything amazes him... he is just fresh out of racing, a short career that ended with him being disqualified!!! Herbie is far to full of fun to chase a mechanic hare - he wanted to play with the other greyhounds next to him !!!

So Herbie is now looking for a home to embrace and celebrate his love of life! he would like to learn all sorts of things and we think you could easily teach him how to retrieve toys! Perhaps your home has teenagers that need amusing? Herbie could well be the boy for you!..........

Despite his funny man exterior there is actually a big insecure baby underneath so Herbie really will need someone to care for and love him. It wont be hard.. he is a goofy boy.

Luca

Luca

Luca is a laid back gentleman of late middle years, with kind eyes and a gorgeous dark glossy coat that belies his age.

He inspires respect, admiration and love.

Younger hounds are calmed and automatically defer to him thanks to his reserved and solid temperament.

Luca deserves a warm berth in a loving home, where he can call a quiet corner his own.

Becky

Becky
Becky
Becky

Meet Becky - a sweet and lovely greyhound.

She is 8 years old and has spent her life living in horrible conditions and being used as a brood bitch. In fact, she nearly didn’t make it to us atall. When we went to collect another dog, she was just standing out in the freezing cold looking anxious and scared so we asked “What about that dog over there?” and were told she was going to be “got rid of” because no-one would want her. So we squeezed her onto the van and into our kennels and decided to worry about the cost of it all later!! (By the way, this is the reality of what our fundraising is all about).

When she came to us her fur was thickly coated with clay and mud which had dried on her from where she had been lying in the mud in the open paddock. She took quite a lot of bathing I can tell you with lots of conditioner to try and tease the clay out. However, she has, as they say “scrubbed up a treat” :-)

She is currently living in a foster home with other greyhounds and is well behaved and quiet. She is a lovely lovely girl who regularly gives out kisses and wags her wiggly curly tail. She is a gentle soul who has had a hard life and is now looking for some love and a sofa.

Oh and if you need help tidying up around the house, Becky will join in. She will take all those untidy things and put them in a nice pile on her bed for you to sort through!!

Zebedee
Zebedee

What a handsome boy Zebedee is. He is 3 years old; very friendly, affectionate and enthusiastic about life.

Zeb walks well on the lead, and today we did a home assessment with him. He has obviously experienced very little of life outside kennels and is FASCINATED by everything. He settled nicely with 4 resident greyhounds and a cocker spaniel, and was very chilled out in the house. As you will see he spent most of the day lying down so I will endeavour to get some pictures of him standing up soon!

He will need careful introduction to smaller breeds of dogs but only because he has never met them before.

Bertie

Bertie
Bertie

Bertie is 3 years old and is another racing reject. Not up to the mark so unwanted............

Luckily we were able to step in to help him and offer a safe place for Bertie. Now Bertie is ready for re-homing and is looking forward to it very much!

We took Bertie to the beach along with the other kennel dogs, and he loved to feel the sand beneath his feet - probably for the first time in his life. Bertie enjoyed his walk, and also enjoyed a quick snooze on the floor of the pub with his friend Woody making a very useful pillow!

Carmel

Carmel
Carmel
Carmel

This is Carmel - our little 4 year old shy girl. She's a gentle quiet little soul but I think she's got more in there waiting to come out when she gets her confidence up and feels safe.

She really does have a lovely nature - adores a cuddle and will lean against you if you stroke her ears. She walks beautifully on the lead and is good around all other dogs.

She is in foster with two other dogs and has been a delight in the house - not one accident and well behaved. You would hardly know that she is there except for her coming for a cuddle and looking at you with such soulful eyes that she is impossible to resist. She is coming out of herself a little bit and has asked a couple of the other dogs in the house if they would like to play.

She eats nicely and likes her food but is not excessively foodie and doesn't bother with the other dog's food. She settles down at night and you don't hear a sound from her.

I get the feeling she would like a quieter kind of house because she is a quieter kind of girl.

Oh and did I mention that she is awesomely beautiful?

Poncho

Poncho is 2 years old. He was bred for racing but didn't make the grade, and like so many others, he was no longer wanted.

He is a lovely dog and oh so handsome! Just look at that shiny glossy coat - he could turn heads in the street! Poncho walks well on a lead and enjoys a nice long walk with his kennel chums. He is quite a tall boy, but is rather willowy with it, so a bit of a super-model really!

Poncho is a young dog and is looking forward to learning all about life in a home - he is particularly keen to find all about "the settee" which he has heard so much about!

Oscar (2)
Oscar (2)

Oscar is a 3yr old boy who has only just come into our care. He was originally called Stag but we didn't think that suited him! A lovely lady who was adopting Paddy chose Oscar for him...a much better name!
He is one seriously good looking boy who is in good physical condition.Just look at that fantastic smile!!

Update 29/12/09

I can't believe this lovely boy has not found his own duvet yet! Oscar has turned out to be a lovely fun boy who will bring cuddles and smiles to any home! Please give us a call to find out more about this handsome man!

Update 26/1/10

Well, the gorgeous Oscar is still with us and now very ready for his new home. He's learned lots since he's been with us and is really excited about finding a family of his own to show off his new skills, especially playing fetch! He now brings his toys back to your hand :-) Oscar walks really, really nicely on the lead most of the time, he just gets a bit excited if there are dogs running around off lead, otherwise, he's an absolute pleasure and the excitement is manageable on a gentle leader. He's loving, kind, funny, sweet, full of impish mischief and will make a fantastic family dog..... does he sound like the boy for you?

Tony

Tony
Tony
Tony

We think Tony is Grrrrrrrreat (only those over the age of 35 will understand that!)

He is 4 years old and finished his racing career in October. Tony's owner handed him over to rescue to find a new home for him.

Tony is quite a big lad and has a big heart to match his stature. He is a lovely friendly lad, who enjoys his walks in the countryside with the dog walkers. Whilst we have had Tony with us we have noticed that he does like his own space though. He is fine walking alongside other dogs, but in smaller more confined spaces, like a car for example, he doesn't like the close proximity of other dogs, and will grizzle at them to let them know that!

Tony can't go to a home with cats, and will need careful introductions to small dogs as so far in his life he's only ever met greyhounds.

This lad is a super boy, who will make a really wonderful, faithful companion. Please don't overlook just because he is big, black and likes his own space - he is just lovely - just look at that face!

Abbey

Abbey
Abbey
Abbey

Abbey will be three in January. Her racing career ended in February this year and sadly she ended up in a pound in the north east so we know nothing of her history during the last six months.

Abbey has only just arrived at our kennels. She is pretty and a friendly girl.

28/9/09
We took Abbey and Jimmy to a local show this weekend and both dogs were amazing. They just wanted to say hello to everyone who came by, adults and children alike and were on the go most of the day. Bet they slept well on Saturday night!

6/2/10

Abbey was returned to us this week after being rehomed in October last year. It turned out that she could not be trusted with some of the animals on her owner's smallholding and they took the tough but sensible decision to return her to us.

Because of her behaviour we are now recommending that Abbey is rehomed where there are no animals, apart from dogs. This is not unusual behaviour from a greyhound as they have been taught to chase from an early age and they know no different. She has been perfect in every other respect and is waiting for her forever home again.

Abbey is a super, friendly girl and will make someone a wonderful pet.

Luey

Luey
Luey
Luey

Luey is currently in a foster home learning to socialise politely with
other dogs of all shapes and sizes, although he is generally good
around other dogs once he gets to know them, he can get a bit worried when first meeting them.

We asked Luey's foster mum for a write up on how he is doing -

"He is sharing his home with an older female lurcher and he benifits
from her company, but he is a playful lad who would like to have a
play mate. However he can get a bit bossy during play so care to
introduce toys will be needed.

Luey is not cat friendly and will chase small furries (although of course we don't allow him to!) He is learning to play with toys instead, and his recall is good as long as you engage him first. He has a really smart brain too with lots of potential to do agility, obedience or clicker training. Luey loves to learn new things and picks what you want up very quickly. Lurchers with brains can get bored so a game or two a day will keep his mind in order. Already Luey has learnt to play fetch or football very well in the garden, and as he is very food orientated training should be easy.

The best thing about Luey is he loves people and he loves cuddles very much. He wants to be with you as much as possible and so eager to please, but is ok to be left for a short time, and you get the most enthusiastic welcome home from him. His personality has come out in bundles and he is a cheeky chap with a very lovable streak, you can't not fall in love with him, and he has the funniest sleeping positions.

He is stunning to look at and his fur is the softest velvet to touch, he is as handsome inside as he is out.

Inside the home he is a gentleman, he does like the home comforts but will get off furniture when asked to, he also is just as happy on a soft dog bed, he is easy going.
He is very clean in the house and will ask to go out if he needs to.
He is now used to wearing coats outside and at night as our house can get cold at night."

We think she is smitten - could you be?

Theo

Theo
Theo
Theo

Meet Theo, and what a handsome boy he is!
Theo is both loving and affectionate and is currently living in a foster home. He is chilled out, undemanding, great with both adults and children, and easy to manage. Rarely barks. Loves cuddles and attention and gives it back too. He can be left for a few hours on his own without problems.

He is currently living as an only dog but would also be fine sharing his life with another dog as long as it is not too small. He is totally comfortable with medium to large dogs and is getting better all the time with the smaller breeds. He walks very well on the lead, although when he gets excited he can be quite strong. He still has quite a strong prey drive (he raced 64 times) but the more time you spend with him the more he is learning the rules outside the racing track!

His foster mum says "My house gets busy in the evening with lots of people, including children, coming to visit. Most of the time he remains in his bed, regally awaiting welcome attention from his "subjects" of all ages (which he nearly always gets because everyone loves him). Sometimes he does actually get up to greet people but he's never boisterous or intrusive. He is a real gentleman".

Theo would benefit from a home with someone used to sighthounds who is able to continue the great work that his foster mum has been doing. He is quick to learn and has come on massively since living we have had him.

Can you offer this gorgeous boy the loving home he deserves?

Theo needs a home without a cat please.

UPDATE 18/02/2010
Theo is now happy walking with almost any other breed of dog. He came to a collection last Sunday and he has turned into the most beautiful boy; gentle and loving and happy just to stand there getting as many cuddles as he can. Please don't overlook this lovely boy - he really needs to find his forever home.

Eva - cat trainable *

Eva - cat trainable *
Eva - cat trainable *
Eva - cat trainable *

Little Eva is possibly one of the prettiest dogs we have ever seen. Her coat is an extraordinary blue brindle (black and cream) and she is a dot at only about 23" tall, with a very slight build.

After careful assessment, we have determined that Eva is very uncertain of situations in which she is physically confronted and needs to be dealt with calmly and without physical or verbal confrontation. As with a great number of starvation cases, Eva's resources are very important to her and she needs to feel secure in her environment.

She is approximately 15 months old and a Saluki X possible Collie X Whippet - with a Collie X Whippet (love me, fuss me, do ME!) fun and cheeky mentality. Eva is very confident with people and her previous time is a home means that she is now house-trained, lead walking is better and her recall is also fantastic. We have been doing some clicker training with her and she LOVES it - this positive reward-based training is essential to get the best of out Eva. She comes alive when she starts training and would love an active home where they will take her to classes and do some agility or even dancing! Once in training mode, she is totally fixed on you to the exclusion of everything else and she just adores the mental challenge.

Eva was originally homed with a house rabbit, which she managed to ignore under careful guidance, so it is possible that she may be cat trainable! Eva needs a home with children over the age of 12, who will get involved in training and playing with her. She is good with other dogs but she may be better as an only dog.

Eva is beautiful but she does need a home with people that understand the bright, fun Collie X Whippet mentality. She will be an absolute dream in the right home and she really deserves a wonderful sofa to call her own. She is just such fun and we all utterly adore her, you just can't help it. It will be a terrible struggle to let her go.

Betty

Betty
Betty
Betty

This little princess has stolen everyone's hearts! She is a beauty to be sure, and as we all know good things come in small packages.......Betty is round 2 years old and has come to us from a Welsh pound where she has been for some time sadly. We have no idea of her story as we have no history on her at all.

Betty loves company, both doggy and human - she revels in it! We have popped Betty into a foster home so that she has the chance to experience some home comforts and we can get to know her a bit better. She is sharing her home with two resident greyhounds and has lost no time in snuggling up in bed with them!

We have discovered that Betty is capable of jumping however! When she was in kennels she would have given an Olympic high jumper a run for their money! She earned herself the nickname "spiderwoman"! However we think Betty was just lonely in her kennel and wanted to join in with the other dogs and humans. So far, in her foster home we haven't seen any of this althletic behaviour as Betty has the companionship and cuddles she craved.

Betty needs to go to a home with other dogs and would love a busy household with lots to do to keep her occupied!

Jimmy (2)

Jimmy (2)
Jimmy (2)
Jimmy (2)

Jimmy was a first class racer who was raced by his trainer and co owner. On his retirement five years ago Jimmy, who was much thought of by his trainer, was retained at the kennels. However when an opportunity arose for Jimmy to enjoy a new life away from kennels his owner kindly gifted Jimmy to GRWE.

So this is Jimmy who is nine years old, used to a quiet routine and, because of that, we would recommend that he goes to a home without children. He will not require masses of exercise.

He has a lovely, friendly personality and is a confident dog. Can you offer Jimmy a nice comfy home for his retirement?

Update 3/3/10

Jimmy has been a star in kennels and it's hard to believe he is nine years old. He is not a plodder; far from it. He has his lively moments but is gentle on the lead and takes an interest in all that's going on around him.

It really is time he found that cosy sofa.!! Have you got one on offer?

Rose

Rose
Rose
Rose

Rose is a pretty fawn girl aged 3 years old who came to us from Ireland as she was considered not good enough to race. Sadly this very special young lady has now spent more that her fair share of time in our kennels. Wonderful though they are, Rose needs to be shown that there is so much more to life than what she is currently used to.

Rose is a very sweet and affectionate girl who adores people. She travels beautifully in the van and loves nothing more than a trip out. Rose is a quiet girl in the kennels and doesn’t appear to mind being left; in fact I don’t think we have ever heard her bark. She is house trained, knows exactly what sofas are for, and is very comfortable being indoors. Rose would love to find a home with a family who have previous experience with sighthounds. Although she is a failed racer she does still have an interest in small things that move quickly, so care must be taken when introducing her to small dogs etc. Rose will need a responsible owner who understands that she is a work in progress and who is prepared to be patient and understanding of the fact that it will take time for Rose to realise that the rules have now changed and that she is no longer required to chase things. Rose needs consistent, kind and sympathetic handling so that she can learn to relax and enjoy life as a pet dog as opposed to being a working one. Rose would probably like to live with another sighthound as she is very familiar with her own kind, but will not be able to live in a home with cats or other small pets.

Rose loves her walks and is a bright and responsive girl. She is very people orientated, loves nothing more than a cuddle, adores soft toys and is rather partial to the odd gravy bone or two! Rose walks in harness for added security, but in an enclosed area she has a surprising good recall and doesn’t seem to want to venture too far away. Rose has been to several of our events and has coped really well with meeting lots of other greyhounds and people. She has been out on walks and is slowly being introduced to all manner of other creatures such as sheep, donkeys, pheasants, horses and other breeds of dogs. Rose is not aggressive, but gets anxious and excited and is having to learn than staying calm is now the right thing to do. In many ways Rose is just a typical sighthound and she needs someone who understands this. It will be helpful for Rose to have a nice calm, but confident owner, someone who can continue with her training and carrying on quietly introducing her to lots of new things.

Despite Rose’s current lack of life skills, she is a bundle of joy that will in time make a lucky someone a wonderful companion.

So if you have previous experience with greyhounds, have a sofa that you are prepared to share, an abundance of soft toys, and are of the belief that you only get out of an animal what you are prepared to put in, then this dear little dog would like to meet you.

Leroy

Leroy

This lovely boy has raced 41 times and is 4 years old. He has come directly from his trainer who wanted us to find him a good home.

He seems a very gentle dog, who is quite chilled out. He is very small for a boy.

Leroy has not seen much of the outside world and probably not been around other breeds of dogs, although when he sees them he looks and then shows only friendly interest.

He came to a collection on Sunday and stood there patiently waiting for cuddles for 3 hours without putting a foot wrong; he behaved impecably. He walks well on the lead and would make a lovely comanion for someone.

Leroys day out! 20/02/2010
Wow this is one chilled out dog. We took him to a dog show today where he met all sorts of dogs including Yorkies and he didn't put a foot wrong. He was the perfect gentleman and wagged his tail at every one he met. While he wasn't saying hi to dogs he was just standing patiently.. if you want a seriously laid back boy, who is gentle and loving he's the one for you.

Bow

Bow
Bow
Bow

Bow is a beautiful girl of 4 years old. She has come into our care from the North of England where she found herself in need of rescue space when her racing days were over.

She really is a beautiful girl! Bow is quite large for a girlie greyhound, and she really is a stunner who would turn heads in the street. Bow hasn't been with us for very long, and we are still getting to know her, but so far she seems to be settling in well and is wagging her tail happily.

Bow loves the other kennel dogs, and was really in her element out on her walk with the other greyhounds. We think she will make a wonderful companion dog for someone lucky enough to have her.

*Upate* 18.12.2009

Bow is now in a foster home. She has settled really well and enjoys the company of two other greyhounds. We think she is beautiful too! Bow is a confident girl and is great fun to have around, she enjoys playing with toys and will share with the other dogs. She took to home life really easily and settled into the routine very well.

She is quite strong on lead and wears a halti when out on walks and walks very well with it. She is not cat friendly and is learning that other breeds of dog exist other than greyhounds.

She is just a lovely. Have we mentioned how beautiful she is????

Andy

Meet Andy! Andy has to be a contester for one of the happiest dogs on the planet! He always has a smile on and his who body wags in excitment to be out and doing things!

Andy is probably a collie x greyhound, he was tied up outside a vets just before christmas period... luckily the vets took him in and looked after him until a rescue space could be found.

Andy is an energetic young lurcher - he is very people focused and has fantastic recall in the paddock - we are sure he is playing a game of chicken with us as he comes flying at 40 mph directly at you with massive grin on face!! not for the faint hearted but luckily Andy has dodged at the last second everytime!!

Andy is looking for an active home - older children only, He could happily live as the only dog.
Andy gets on well with dogs of all sizes.

If you think Andy could be the hound for you then please get in touch with your details..

Fraser

Fraser came to us from a pound and because of this we don't know what his history held. He has been with us for a few weeks now, and so we have had chance to get to know him - oh he's lovely!

We think probably Fraser is around 3 years old. He is of course a saluki cross, and is a bit of a stunner. Fraser seems friendly with other dogs, and of course is great with people too. The best news of all is that Fraser has passed his cat test too.

Last weekend we took Fraser out to one of our fundraising events and he really enjoyed meeting lots of new friends both two and four legged. He's a bright boy who would do well with a family and a busy household with lots going on.

Saluki-lovers everywhere - look no further!

Wesley (2)
Wesley (2)

This is Wesley - 3 years old - and a daft comedian to boot. A dog with real personality who loves to be with you and be out and about.

He is extremely loving and extremely biddable and won't take long to train to your ways. He loves your approval and hates it if he thinks he has upset you. And, oh boy, look at those eyes - you really don't want to make this dog miserable as the look on his face will break you heart. He really knows how to work the sad eyed look to his advantage! One look from those dark brown eyes and you just want to scoop him up for a cuddle.

He gets many admiring comments when we are out as he is so good looking with his white and fawn coat that he really stands out.

He came to us in a very sad way but he just seemed to ignore his wounds and got on with the business of being happy. So, if you think you can cope with being gazed at adoringly by such beautiful eyes, then our Wesley is the one for you.

Tippy (Banana Nose!) UPDATED!

Tippy (Banana Nose!) UPDATED!
Tippy (Banana Nose!) UPDATED!
Tippy (Banana Nose!) UPDATED!

Hello everyone, I am finally OUT and I have the cutest banana nose - see!

I am 4.5 years old, I have been in racing kennels my whole life and I raced 100 races until a toe injury last year (which is now fine) but it enabled me to retire in June. Since then, I have been enjoying retirement at my Trainers (who adored me and walked me every day with her 6 Cocker Spaniels).

I am a total gentleman and I ADORE having my back scritched, as you can see! It makes my face go all goo'ey and silly. I also smile BIG smiles when I first see you, which makes my banana nose look even cuter!

I am good with small dogs but cats and small furries are out for me, sorry! I walk nicely on the lead, I am responsive and just an all-round good egg! As for humans, well I think you should come and see for yourself how loving I am. You won't be disappointed I promise!

See you soon I hope.
Lots of banana nose grins,
Tippy!

I AM IN FOSTER!!!!!

Dear all

I am sooooo lucky! I have been taken in to foster by some wonderful people and I am living with 3 dogs of other breeds! I am happily sharing my space, eating with them and I have been clean in the home since day 1! I am one seriously clever boy (I do try very hard to steal the odd morsel of food off the counter but I am assured that this is quite normal)! I am learning all kinds of wonderful new things and this morning I worked out how to climb stairs and greeted my foster Mummy with an extra special banana-nosed grin and kisses, which she loved (well that is what she said)! I am sure I could do the same for you too!

Shep
Shep

Shep was in a dog pound in Wales and needed a rescue space so we stepped in to help him. He is a dear little chap who has the most adorable face............who could dump a lad like this?

Because Shep was a stray we don't have any history on him so we are assessing him as we spend more time with him. He is great wth people and with other dogs, and particularly likes Maxie as he spent time with him when he was waiting in the pound to be rescued.

Shep is great on the lead and is a happy chappie who needs his own home now.
*update 28/12/9*

Shep is doing really well with us - he is such a lovely chap! He is a really sunny boy who loves other dogs and simply adores people too. Today he came out on a walk to the beach and just LOVED it! He really enjoyed a walk in the sunshine, and revelled in the attention he got from all his admirers. His new photos show just how happy he is now he has settled with us.

Badger

Badger
Badger
Badger

Badger is a gorgeous black and white greyhound who arrived from a trainer in Ireland in Oct 09. Badger will turn 3 this year.

Badger can be very nervous in new situations and takes time to settle in. We are looking for a home for him where he can live with another greyhound bitch and with experienced owners who have the time to spend with him to build his confidence.

Ideally badger would be suited to a semi rural or rural home. We would like his new owners to spend time getting to know Badger before he goes to his new home, visiting him in his kennel and taking him out for walks (badger is always impeccable when out for walks), which will help Badger make the transition to a new home.

When Badger is familiar with his surroundings and people he is a lovely affectionate boy. Badger is in kennels in Herts/Beds region.

** Badger got dressed up for a photo shoot today with some of his smart Tuxedo friends.... in the photo with 3 dogs, Badger is the handsome boy on the left, James Bond eat your heart out!!!! **

Edward

Edward
Edward
Edward

Edward is a lovely blue 6 year old greyhound boy who is looking for his home. Edward is on the smaller side for a greyhound.

Edward has really come out of himself in the last couple of months, he obviously looks and feels better than when he first arrived thin and scabby in Dec 09

Edward LOVES his walks and any attention - he can be very bouncy at first, more like a lab than a greyhound!!!! but as soon as he is out of his kennel and walking he settles down and really enjoys the fresh air.

Edward is a good natured hound who thrives on love and attention.
He would be over the moon in a home of his own and be utterly devoted to his owner.

Edward is happy to settle in a crate for a few hours whilst you need to go out.

Blue

Blue
Blue
Blue

This is Blue and he is happy :-)

He is probably the world's happiest greyhound and doesn't have a bad bone in his body. He walks really nicely on the lead and has been very good around other breeds of dogs. However, if you do not allow your dog on the sofa - he is not the dog for you. He would also sleep with you given half a chance!!

He is a total comedian and people lover. He is currently living with 3 other dogs on his pre homing assessment and is not really interested in them. What he loves most of all are people - oh yes - and snow - big fun!! And did I mention ......... he is happy :-)

Are you feeling a bit out of sorts or unloved or unappreciated - let Blue work his magic on you. He will LOVE you soooo much and be your sofa companion for life. He loves going for a walk and telling you just how much he loves you and then Zzzzzzzzzz until tea time of course.

And of course like all big daft lads, he likes nothing better than to lie on his back with his legs in the air showing the world what he's got (after the vet finished with him of course!!)

So, in short, what Blue needs most is a loving family and a sofa - can you provide those things? He will love you forever.

Lucky Dave

Lucky Dave
Lucky Dave
Lucky Dave

Introducing Dave, whom we really should have called "Lucky". Last weekend we did a transport run to pick up several greyhounds in need of rescue space. When our volunteer arrived to collect another dog, she was handed Dave as well, as he had been saved from being put to sleep that morning. Unbelievably he had raced just the night before, and had pulled a muscle in his back leg - and for that he was going to be put to sleep...........

Halfway up the M6 we received a call asking if we had room for Dave? We didn't, but faced with that kind of scenario, what do you do? Of course we had to find room for him, and we are so glad we were able to help Dave (aka Lucky Dave!)

Dave was 4years old in January, and is one of the loveliest dogs you could ever wish to meet. When confronted by new situations, he has eyes like saucers, but soon settles down when he knows there is nothing to be afraid of. His leg is absolutely fine - no lasting ill-effects apart from some bruising. This chilled out boy is one of life's plodders. Not much fazes him so it seems, and he is of course totally oblivious to the lucky escape he had!

Woody

Woody
Woody

Woody is a lovely black greyhound who was bred in Ireland for racing. He is just 3 years old and was no longer wanted when he didn't make the grade.

This handsome chap walks nicely on the lead and is happy around his kennel mates. Because he has only ever lived amongst greyhounds, he doesn't know what other breeds of dogs are! When he seems them in the distance he is interested in them, but when he gets up close and knows they are another dog, Woody is keen to make friends.

The photo below shows Woody doing what he does best - chilling out after a long walk

Sid

Sid
Sid
Sid

How handsome is this gorgeous boy? Sid came to us from an Irish pound where he was picked up as a stray in a pitiful condition. He was covered in mange and was a very very nervous boy; clearly whatever had happened to Sid in his past was not pleasant, and he had obviously suffered greatly.

Several months of rehab have worked wonders! Sid is now a shining gleaming example of how a lurcher should look, and is a real happy-chappy. He is living in a foster home with two other dogs, and really enjoys their company. Sid particularly loves his walks, and likes nothing more than a cuddle with his foster mum on the settee.

This little man has made so much progress since being with us and is now ready for a home of his own. We won't home him with very small children, but he would simply love a home wth other dogs and older children.

Ps Siddy simply loves the snow!! Its a pure joy to see this little lad playing his heart out in the garden!

A star of a dog - 4 years old - a lovely steady boy with no real issues.

He walks beautifully on the lead, is calm and well behaved in his kennel and after his walk is happy to settle down.

We know he's been around young children and is great when out and about with other dogs. He will be cat tested shortly.

A smashing easy lad. This is a dog you can take anywhere and be proud.

Wonder

Wonder

The name suits this boy, he is a real sweetie!!Wonder is a lovely 4 year old boy, with unusual white markings on his chest.
He walks nicely on the lead after his initial excitement of coming out of the kennels, and enjoys all the love and attention our volunteers give him.

UPDATE 10/03/2010
We have done a home assessment with Wonder today and he was such a good boy. He settled down nicely with 4 resident greyhounds and a small noisy cocker spaniel, and he just laid down and went to sleep! He was very good whilst walking, and doesn't pull on the lead even when a mad collie was running up and down by a fence barking.

Milly *lives with cats*

Milly is an adorable and cheeky little lurcher girl who is looking for a loving and active home.

Milly is about 18mnths old, she has been living in a home with children and cats

Milly is looking for an active home where she will not be left for long periods, she would ideally like to live with another dog as she is so sweet with them and loves doggy company. Milly is a little live wire but all fun and with such a lovely nature.

this is what Millys foster mum says....

She is a very happy little girl, playful and fun loving. She does not like being left for long periods at the moment, but will grow with confidence given time, she also loves playing with other doggy friends so a playmate would be preferable in her forever home. She is cat trainable, and has been living with cats, but if re homed with a cat, it will have to be a confident one that will stand its ground. She does tend to think that cats are for playing with and can get a little over excited. She is only about 24/25 inches so is quite small and dainty. She really is a cuddle monster, and thoroughly enjoys attention, and likes nothing better than snuggling up next to you (or on your lap if she can get away with it) on the sofa. She walks like a dream on the lead, and is house trained.

She will make a wonderful addition to a family.

Soda is not very big for a greyhound boy. He has the most beautiful eyes which melt the hearts of anyone who meets him.

Soda pulls a little on the lead at the moment, but walked with a gentle leader this is improving all the time!
Don't delay..contact today, as this blue bombshell won't be around for long!!

Max

Max
Max
Max

Max is a very special boy who arrived with us last year after spending 6 years of his life in a rescue centre in Ireland. A cruelty case at the age of 6 months which ran on for two years, Max lived in kennels until the court finally agreed to rehoming. No home was found in Ireland so 4 years later he came to GRWE. His brother Star went straight into a foster home, no problems and living happily with three other dogs and three cats – a much loved family pet.

Max is now ready for his own home. He has also been living in a foster home and has made tremendous progress, he has learnt day to day routines and gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. Max needs a very special family who can carry on the good work, introducing him to the world that is still so new for him.

Max's foster mum says ‘Max is a lovely dog and has settled in well, experiencing normal day to day life. At first this was all very scary for him... from the scary Hoover to children and adults playing computer games and pretend tennis in the living room ( wii ), he actually looks for the ball that isn’t there! He would love a home that isn’t too busy as new noises do still make him run to his bed but he is very quick to come back and check things out. He’s good with other dogs and is very playful when he is confident with them, if not he stays close to your side for reassurance. He would love to have his own space to retreat to as and when he feels the need and be left until he is ready to brave things again. Max needs a kind soft approach but will take advantage if he thinks he can. He has been around teenage children and loves the fuss but may not appreciate younger children who may be too much for him. He’s scared of our cat so may be able to live with a cat in his new home although would probably prefer not too!

Jack

Jack
Jack
Jack

this beautiful boy is Jack, Jack came to us recently from a private homing that hadnt worked out.

Jack is 3 this year and never raced according to his greyhound data page.

Jack has been very quiet and sweet with us but he does seem to be a little on the nervous side with new people and will need an understanding owner to let him settle in in his own time.

We are still getting to know Jack so will update more soon...

2nd March ...

Jack has settled in really well now, He knows his routine and he loves having visitors and really loves his walks! Jack walks well on the lead and mixes well with the other dogs.. We are hoping Jack can find his own home to settle into soon - pref an adult home.
Jack is very clean in his kennel and settles well so we think he will cope fine being left for a few hours at a time.

Jessica is an ex-racer who has been retired by her owner. She is 3 years old and has only ever known kennel life.
She is quite a slight little girl and is a friendly soul who loves all the attention she is getting from the kennels and dog walkers.
We will be homing Jessica into a home without cats, and as she has only ever met other greyhounds so far in her life, she will need to be introduced to other breeds of dogs too.
She is a lovely girl who will make a great pet.

Maxi Boy

Maxi Boy
Maxi Boy
Maxi Boy

Max is 4 years old and a happy and loving dog who very much enjoys the company of people and just adores attention and affection. He thought he had found his forever home but, unfortunately, it was not to be. However, his previous owner says that he is "a great dog and she would highly recommend him".

Max is a magnificent looking dog who adores having his tummy tickled and will lift his leg in appreciation in order to facilitate better access to his tummy!!! He gently sings and chatters his teeth like a sewing machine when he is happy. He loves to be out and walking and has learnt to walk like a gentleman on his Halti.

His favourite toy in the world is his sausage dog cuddly and he likes nothing better than to throw him up into the air and catch him again. However, since losing the home he loved Max has nothing left in his life but his sausage dog and as you can see from his photo, he cuddles up to him in kennels drawing comfort that he reminds him of happier times and dreaming that someone will love him and want him again.

He is very sociable, extremely biddable and beautifully house trained. He loves to please. On walks he looks to you to see if you want to give a command. He is capable of so much more - would you like to teach him? He would like a home with no other dogs please so if you are looking for a real companion and pal, Max is the boy for you. He is a truly handsome and loving boy (his photos do not do him justice - he has the most melting brown eyes) and he loves his bed and once he has had his walk settles down happily - I would love to take him home.

Little Meg is as cute as can be. She is just 16 months old and was handed to us by a trainer who no longer wanted her!
She is quite a petite little lady and as you can see fom the pictures loves the camera.
As with all puppies she will need continued training, but is showing good manners already. She is a little bouncy on the lead at first but settles down to walk nicely. She adores people and loves her foster home which she is sharing with lots of other dogs, including a jack russell. Meg is a warm fun loving little pup who will blossom in any home environment. Could that be home be yours?

Here's our gorgeous Emma - 4 years old and stunning looking - and just look at those ears - aren't they amazing. She's not a girlie girl though - she's a fun loving tomboy who loves games and toys. Don't be fooled though - that doesn't stop her wanting a kiss and a cuddle when her mates aren't looking!!

She's a super girl who's had a hard time but is on the right road now - coat shiny, teeth sorted, manners being learnt and ready for a sofa very near you - hopefully.
