Guestbook
Thank you for visiting our site and taking an interest in the work we do. Please leave a message for us in our guestbook and come back again soon!
31 October 2011:
We experienced a catastrophic failure yesterday morning and have unfortunately lost ALL entries on the guestbook since the end of September 2010.
We have been able to recover a few, but to all those who left a message since September 2010: PLEASE re-enter or email us your guestbook message if you cannot find it here!
There were so many lovely messages and 'happy tails' and we hope you will help us recover them!
Thank you!
Rosemary B.
Your website is so wonderful. I wish I could home many of your lovely dogs but sadly not at the moment

A chance in a lifetime............. As a GRWE foster carer, with two hounds and a foster space for a needy hound, it has always been our intention to have space in our home for just one more.
That was until little Chance came along! 5 minutes after his arrival with us as a foster I was signing the rehoming paperwork and haven't looked back.
It is never an easy choice taking an oldie into your home, but they do have a habit of sneaking in.
We will of course return to fostering when the time comes . Thank you for giving our little whippet a chance xx

Hi there just wanted to post in the guestbook that Honey, whom I adopted from the GRWE last July, and I completed our Kennel Club Bronze Certificate in Good Citizen Dog Scheme.
We have been attending training classes and she has done brilliantly. We are moving onto our Silver Certifcate in a few weeks. Having a great time with her and we both love her to bits.

Over from Australia for three months and went with my Aunty (a fosterer for grwe) to walk some of the dogs at the kennels. It is clear that the work being done by everyone at grwe is immense, they have complete love for these dogs and give up alot of their time and effort to make sure the dogs are cared for and go to the right homes!
I just want to say it it so nice to meet such loving, caring people! Keep up the good work!
You have inspired me to go in search for kennels to volunteer walking the dogs when I go back to Australia!

Hi all, just a note to inform that our beloved Tilly, who we adopted in 2005, passed away yesterday after getting the dreaded bone cancer. Tilly, formally Mitzi, was our first 'baby' and was the most wonderful, kind, funny dog. She was amazing when we bought our 2 human babies home and happily lived with our grouchy, ancient cat although other cats were considered fair game! I am still leaving space for her on the sofa and will miss her lying across me and grunting with pleasure when I rubbed her ears! I hope she is up there chasing deer and rabbits to her hearts content. Ken and I miss her terribly and are nursing broken hearts at the moment. Our son wants another hound asap but I think we need to grieve for a bit longer. To anyone who has a hound: you are blessed with such a great companion, to anyone who is thinking of getting a hound: they are wonderful, loving, rewarding and often hilarious friends. Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to have such a great dog in our lives. Thank you Tilly for 6 wonderful years x

Message for Sandra in Cornwall:
Sam not as described. I brought home a quiet, staid middle-aged gent; I now have a bouncy, boisterous, adolescent bundle of mischief who everybody thinks is one handsome guy!
At the age of eight he seems to have discovered that life can be fun.
So glad I fell for him.

Oh dear.... I failed!!!
I offered to foster a dog who urgently needed a home after being returned from a family and hating kennels.
HOW I regret taking him in to foster, what a disaster!!.....NO not HIM...it was ME!!!
I lasted about two hours and just knew he couldn't stay in foster with me....so I adopted him instead!!!
WHAT a happy boy, I called him Harri and he now lives and loves with four other dogs, and brings JOY to my heart......
THANK YOU so much, my dear boy, I love you very much,

The house is so empty although we have four others.
Hope things are OK down there.

Hi - had a good day at Tesco at Bursledon. We hope you got lots of money.
Went to Wickham indoor dog show. Suey got a first in best rescue; that was out of 14 dogs. We are so proud of her.
The judge asked us her story and he had tears in his eyes when he said there are so many dogs out there needing homes, and more people like us lot to look after them all.
Keep up the good work we all do.

My husband and I adopted our greyhound Zak on 4th July 2009. A day I will never forget!
Couldn't believe how big and black he was. But you know Zak and I took to each other right away. He is never far from my side. He is my soul mate and my shadow.
All the family love him. The grandchildren call him the "inside out dalmation" as he has splashes of white in his coat. One of my daughters calls him her four-legged brother. As you can tell he is loved by all.
He is fanastic with everone. From tiny dogs who make a fuss of him to perfect strangers who approach him. I am so pleased that you matched Zak to us. Although he is definitely my dog and obeys me, he is very selctive in obedience when it comes to my husband telling him what to do. He is a character and can be very funny. It is a shame that he does not know what toys are for, and he bounces like mad when he see his lead.
He has made our lives such a joy. He knows that he is well loved and spoilt. Who could not love this lovely boy? He will be 10 in March and although he is slowing down due to arthritis in his back legs he is still very active.
Thank you for allowing us to adopt Zak. Keep up the good work and should you be in the vicinity of Irlam, Salford, we would be only too pleased to come and see you all.

Little Winnie (AKA Whippety Win) has been with us since March 2010 and has blossomed into such a loving girl.

What a brilliant website. I have been considering a resue greyhound or two for some time as I very much miss my two mad standard poodles who, despite living until the ages of 13 and 19 respectively, are no longer with us.
I am now very keen to look into this further and having already discussed this with my husband hope to be able to contact you in the very near future.
Keep up the good work. Well Done!!!

Roxy has been with us for ten days now and she is really starting to come out of herself. She's still just a great big teddy bear on legs, but starting to be a mischievous one!
Could do without the 5am starts, mind you, but luckily we adore her so she is forgiven :-)
Huge thanks to Lesley, Julie and Jan for bringing this beauty into our lives.

Hello
We have recently had a new addition to the family, he goes by the name of SOOTY. We only brought him home on Saturday and he has settled in really well - he is loving having long walks up the beach even though he was a little unsure at first but now he is fine. Give it a few weeks and I'm sure he will go in the water!
He is a star with our two-year old boy who loves him very much and he even gets a kiss when he goes off to bed!
We would like to say a big thankyou to Janet and the team at GRWE for finding us such a fantastic dog/friend we really can't thank you enough!
Thank you

Big 'thank you' to GRWE and Rescued Racers for Evie! I picked her up last Saturday and she has settled in with Charlie cat like a dream.
It feels as if she has always been here and she has already passed a 'rabbit' test! As we were walking, a pet black and white rabbit popped out from a hedge, stopped to nibble then hopped off. Evie simply stood and watched as it hopped along the path back to his garden! What a star!

Thank you to Kelli and Gulie for matching our family with the lovely Noah.
He is settling in brilliantly and is a wonderful dog. He has found the sofa which is a good start! He is great with the children and the cat too. And I look forward to watching his confidence grow around strangers and giving him the forever home he deserves.

Having had lurchers all my life and just recently Boomer (named Boomerrang as he always came back) passed away, a big void was now in my life until..Roisin.
A big thank you to Em who introduced me to Roisin (Ro-Sheen)my beautiful Irish brindle shaggy lurcher who came to live with me last Saturday.
Roisin whom we call Roshie for short was a little shy at first but we bonded striaght away. She is learning so quickly and is quite a character, loves chewing her paws and playing with them and so loving and gentle. It feels like I have had her forever.
Thanks to all the team and from time to time you will hopefully see me at events to help continue the support that GRWE need to carry on the good work of caring for these wonderful creatures.

I met one of your volunteers in Gloucestershire at the weekend and fell for the dog he was walking.
I've just become a Friend for Life of GRWE on the back of that meeting.
I have four dogs at the moment, including one lurcher, and am trying to convince my husband that there's room for at least one more long dog on the sofa; they can fit in where others can't!
When I succeed, it will be your organisation I come to.

Hey there you folks!
I've not logged on for a while as I have been busy with my two new hounds - Louie and Lola. They are settling in very well (Louie is a bit naughty at times and has made a meal of my posh glasses, the bannister etc).
However, I just wanted to express my surprise and a big smile to see a featured hound called Elly Mcwelly!!!
You have named one of your girlies after me I see, how amusing, how sweet! Good luck to you all, I'll be helping with street collection next week.

In April 2001 we found our lovely Spencer at death's door at M&S Cribbs Causeway.
We had nearly 9 years with him and he came to France where the French children loved him but three weeks after his return home he developed an enourmous lump in his tummy and left us on August 13th.
He won the top dog at Egington and raised a lot of money when we went out for GRWE.
It was such a blow for my wife that her dementia went very quickly downhill and she is now in a home here in Weston.
I still speak to my Spencer, who's ashes are in my garden under his favourite tree.
One day when I can I will get another greyhound because of all the dogs we had during our 53 years of marriage our Spencer was the only dog we had and he was so wonderful.
All the people in Calrance park were all crying when they heard he had gone. So another stage in our lives with Spencer has passed and now my wife can only remember him when I take his photo in for her.
Thank you for reading this, Dave

Just want to say a huge thank you to Kelli and also Karen for all your wonderfull help in helping my family and I find our perfect rescue match. Last week we meet a lady and gentleman with two greyhounds, when we visited Weston-super-Mare with our three greyhounds - all from rescuce centres close to our home town.
As usual the dogs introduced themselves while we had a good chat with the dogs' oweners who told us what a good job you do and the lady also helps out.
Maybe other people, seeing how well these dogs get on, just may make them decide to get a dog!

I have just taking in Buzz a black greyhound in need of a home.
I could not resist him when I met him with my two greyhounds. He has settled in really well and is learning the house rules. He is so loving and affectionate and fitting in well - it is like we have always had him!
Thanks Kelli at GRWE, you have given me and my family a lovely new pet.

Hey,
We got our greyhound, Joe, who is 6 now, from a lady in Bodmin, Sue.
We collected Joe after three visits when he was only two years old. He was a pain for cats and other dogs, and still is for dogs, but with cats, he just goes up and sniffs them, then walks away.
We have taught him to sit, lie down and come back when we call him.
We love him sooooo much and he is the best dog we have ever had! Love you Joe XXX

Just a note to say I really enjoyed reading 'A day in the life of GRWE' by Belinda McCarthy - and phew! what a day..
It is interesting for us supporters to be aware of just how much time and effort goes into the rescues.
I'm confident that my modest donations are well used. Well done on great work and a well written article - thank you.

Hey everyone
Just a quick comment to let you know that after taking in Gillie before Christmas, we are finding him a total joy!
He's so happy all the time and his tail wags ten-to-the-dozen when one of us walks in. We didn't know how he'd get on with our lovely girl Reb, who came to us in October 2008, but they both get on like a house on fire, and love having a good run around the garden in an afternoon!
We love him so much, he's our qorgeous boy!
Thank you all again,

Hi there
Further to my message on 21 October 2009, it is with much sadness that I write as we lost our beloved Bailey (greyhound dog) yesterday. He was only 7 years old. We were going to rehome another dog from you late last year, as a friend for Bailey, however my father did not wish to walk two dogs so we could not proceed. Little did we know that we would lose Bailey within a month from bone cancer. For all you grey owners out there, the bone cancer was not picked up on an x ray, only on a ct scan - thank god he was insured.
He will be missed masses, he was such a happy dog who just wanted to be with us, wherever we were in the house / garden x

Hi just to let everyone in the Cornwall Branch who helped in his rescue know that Blaine the lurcher puppy is settling well in his new home.
He is full of life and loves to play with his toys. Like most hounds he likes to have a good snooze. He is very clever and managed to open a cupboard in the kitchen and he is also digging a big hole in the garden!
He has filled the big hole left in our lives by the death of our two elderly dogs. Happy Christmas to you all.

Just to say a big thank you for a brilliant get-together at Queenswood Country Park.
The weather was not great but we carried on regardless and raised some money in the process for GRWE. Well done everyone for organising the walk, which was enjoyed by dogs and humans.
My boy Logan has a lovely Christmas snood to wear on those cold winter walks.
Thanks again,

I am a great supporter of what you do and always will be but please spare a thought for the greyhounds that seem to be dressed up each Christmas time like chiristmas trees. Most have been through tough times and they don't understand or appreciate why they have hats and antlers on. Lets give them the dignity they have lacked throughout their lives so far and let them live as dogs not dolls. To dress them up is allowing humans to again, do what they want to these placid beautiful creatures without them questioning our actions. It happens each year and although well meant the dressing up is for the humans benefit not the hounds. Please put the hounds dignity and needs first.
Mary

Hello
I have been perusing your website and have noticed a few beauties to my liking! I lost my bedlington x lurcher in April this year and then two weeks ago, my elder Collie x, at 18 years. They were both rescue dogs and idolised each other.
I am starting to look around now for a replacement, two if small enough, but probably 1 lurcher/greyhound. I would prefer a bitch. I am in Plymouth, Devon and wonder how I would go about adopting from you, you being quite a way up the line!
I do drive, but not far outside Plymouth. I would appreciate a reply through my email
Many thanks

I recently lost my gorgeous Peggy, suddenly after having her in my life for a few short months. Whilst it is a bit too raw for me to rehome another hound, I find myself logging on, looking, reading...
Then I shed some more tears and know that my heart is as big and as open as ever to these elegant and wonderful dogs.
I also want to say thank you for the support I have had from the helpline and from Jackie from the home check. Hopefully in the new year....... regards, Elly

Harvey (was Ollie) has settled well into our family. He loves his bed, his cuddles and especially his toy sheep whose bobbly ears he lovingly chewed off the first week!

Hopefully we will manage to get to some future events.
Cheers,

Just dropped in to say hello from Saffie, who we adopted from GRWE in October 2000 when we lived in North Somerset near Bristol.
Saffie will be 14 on 4 November and lives with us in Verwood, Dorset these days, together with our Bedlington lurcher, Chloe, 9.
Saffie's racing name is Just An Angel - and she is! Do keep up the good work for all the greyhounds you help; it's much appreciated. All the best.

Just a quick note to let you all know that Noah is settling in well since we picked him up on Sunday.

Love the website - it's great to see all the hard work that goes into rehoming these beautiful greyhounds.
Having seen the note on the website about considering rehoming boy greyhounds, I just wanted to add that boy dogs are fantastic - we were originally only considering a bitch after we lost our beloved greyhound girl Bubbles 2 years ago, however the only greyhound at the Dogs Trust was a boy, so we decided to take him home.
He is an absolute STAR - a real gent!! He has changed my mind about boy dogs! He is so chilled out and really well behaved. So... if your in doubt about getting a boy dog, they are fantastic too!! We would not hesitate to get another. Allyson

Just want to let some one know that Bob (Jimbob) is settling in well, starting to relax and feel more settled. We call him Bob or spongeBob as he is most definitely a sponge and will fall asleep standing up having cuddles!
He is everything we expected and so much more! I hope that we will be everything to Bob too, having a happy life safe and loved.
My last Greyhound passed away in February aged 16 (we think as she had no ear markings) 12 years of total joy, love and devotion.

Dear GRWE,
since I came to England a few months ago I am in love with greyhounds!( Originally from Germany, I am spending a few months in the south of England to study.) I found your website in dogs today and check it daily since then, admiring your work!
I am seriously thinking about adopting a greyhound, I already have a lovely podenco X galgo boy named Leo, and three young cats (growing up with Leo)waiting for me at my parents' in Germany.
But I am afraid, you might not want your greyhound leave the country, also because you can't check the circumstances before?!
However, is it possible to visit the GRWE and leave a donation personally?
Thanks, and all the best for you all!
Love
Lena

Hi just a brief note to say that Rupert has settled in very well and is a pleasure to have in our home. Rupert has made many doggy friends, one is a large alsation called Zarr! He is a very gentle giant and loves his cuddles and kisses and loves nothing more than playing in the garden with his squeaky ball. Many Thanks for all you done xxx

Hi and just to say that Peggy came home with me yesterday and spent her first night, quietly and happily! She is adorable and has made friends with neighbours already. She follows me around and is so quiet and gentle, an adorable girl, thank you x

Have had our two wonderful hounds for 8 months now and we all love them soooo much. To see how much they have changed and come out of their shells since we have had them is so rewarding. I check out the website on a regular basis and would love to give all the hounds a home if I could. Keep up the good work.

Hello there, Just a quick note to say how nice it was to see you at Crufts,
I have two greyhound boys and nothing could be more rewarding and special than seeing their personalities come through and their big smiles each day-complete fuss bags and very addictive.
We will be buying things from you to support your great work, we wish we could adopt all the dogs you have but still have a quite shy boy who needs plenty of one to one fuss.

Hi,
We saw your stand at crufts this year and have been thinking about maybe adopting a greyhound, we were wondering if they came with pedigree papers because we are very interested in showing them.
Thankyou very much xxx

Hey there.
saw several Videos on YouTube, very good work.
I am from Germany and recently was the 3rd time in Spain near Valencia, and got out dogs, which found a new home in Germany, roughly round Cologne, its nice to see that there are more people, even throughout the world, that save Greys and Galgos.
Thanks for that kind thing!!
cheers + regards and BIG THANKS
Simon

Hello, I love your website and I just read about how cruel some people are to greyhounds and I can't believe it. It's terrible. I have got my mum to enquire about a greyhound but we have two cats so I'm not sure if it'll be a problem but I'd love a girl greyhound. I'm 13 years old and feel that I can be responsible for looking after a dog! Wish me luck. thanks xx

Hi all!!!
Just a quick update on Rob. We've had him 2 weeks now and he's definatly one of the family now.
My little girl and him are getting on really well.
He's slowed down his eating now and loves his walks, especially with a retired greyhound he has befriended.
We've heard him bark twice now and his playfull side now on its way out.
Will post some pics when i've got a few minutes.
He is a total joy to have.
Thankyou very much GRWE.
Mark

Hi guys, just a short message to let you know Buster is doing well ,and has found his voice.
He is enjoying his walks ,and what can I say food is his life!
He is a joy to have, we have only had him a short while but he is a big part of our family.
I wish every one could see what a joy greyhounds bring to our lives.
Take care
Rita

Ecellent website, easy to use and full of really good info and advice, together with brilliant people who enabled me to take my first ever greyhound, Star, home in time for xmas. He and my GSD bitch Cass are in love! Keep up the good work. Special thanks to Tim, Penny and Ali. Happy New Year! xxx

After reading the latest edition of the newsletter I would like to offer the services and experiences of Sooty&Sweep to GRWE in order to atract new owners. Sooty and Sweep came to us in 03, settling in immediately! My Mother decided on the idea of having just one hound but became immediately smitten with them both and over a short period of time even learned to enjoy walking them and given that she is a rather young 70 that speaks volumes for Sooty's easy going nature. Caring for these two adorable Greyhounds is both a pleasure and a privilege, two short walks a day, three moderate sized meals and a comfy chair with blanket, that's all they ask for! Oh and not forgetting plenty of love, care and attention, which is not to much to ask for,now we would be lost without them! P.S in order to save GRWE funds I would welcome an E mail news letter only if it helps at all, keep up the good work!

I used to have a greyhound as a child that my dad rescued she was my best friend. Now that i am getting married and moving soon into a nice big house with one yorkie terrier henry, who we love to bits.We are thinking of giving a home to a greyhound this site was recomended by my local vet, and ive never been of it i want them all. just cannot believe what a rough ride this breed gets its disgusting they are the best breed of dog ever in my eyes.
Any way im getting the house ready then we can home one CANT WAIT! X X

Great new website, easy on the eye and to navigate. Have looked on hounds needing homes but cannot see Finbar. Did this lovely boy, the victim of such dreadful cruelty, find a home?

Firstly well done on the new site, it looks great. My main reason for getting in touch though was because of the The In Memory page and to pass on my condolences to all, but especially reading of Jan Lake who sadly lost Dodger; we lost our first adopted greyhound, Timmy, almost two years ago in similar circumstances when he became ill and it turned out to be cancer. He hadn't been with us for very long and it was truly devastating because we loved him so much.. I'm so glad there is now a memorial page on GRWE - I must be one of very many who has requested some sort of memorial page, because while we do our best for the greyhounds that need us now - we will never forget the ones that have been in our lives before.. Well done GRWE
