The Great British Greyhound Walk 2013
Exeter Quayside
Join us for 2013’s Great British Greyhound Walk & help us to raise awareness about greyhounds whilst enjoying a beautiful walk from Exeter's historic quayside along the shipping canal to the Double Locks Hotel and back again.
Last year walks took place right across the country and a total of 2233 greyhounds and lurchers took part. It would be wonderful to beat that number this year!
We will meet at Customs House on the quayside at 9.45am for 10.00am start. The walk will be mostly on hard footpaths, but wear strong shoes/Wellingtons in case of recent rain. No traffic/road work. Excellent wildlife, so dogs on leads, binoculars recommended. Half way we will have a short stop for warm, cold, or strong (!) drink at the dog-friendly Double Locks Hotel, with outside seating.

GB Greyhound Walk, Weston

Weston-super-Mare Beach
We are holding another GBGW on Weston-super-Mare Beach this year but will be starting at the Royal Sands and turning back at Uphill, reversing last year's route. The weather last year was against us but we still managed to get 58 greyhounds and lurchers walking together. Hopefully this year we will need sun cream rather than rain coats!
The walk takes about an hour and, as it involves walking down the beach and then back again, it is easy to cut it short by turning round sooner. The point of the walk is to get as many hounds walking at one time, rather than covering a set distance.
You can register your hounds from 9.30am and the walk will start at 10am. After the official walk we hope that some of you will join us for a stroll down the promenade and take advantage of one of Weston's many sea front cafes.
We will have a raffle and some GRWE merchandise for sale.
There is plenty of pay & display parking on the beach (there is a minimum charge of £5 for 4 hours) or you should be able to find a space on a side street within 5-10 minutes walk. Refreshments & toilets are available nearby.
The sand is fairly well packed so it may be suitable for some buggies & wheelchairs.
The walk is restricted to greyhounds and lurchers but there will be other dogs on the beach so please bring a muzzle for any hound that may be unsettled by them.

THE GREAT BRITISH GREYHOUND WALK (Malvern Hills Beacon Walk) 2012
Hereford & Worcester Region will be participating in The Great British Greyhound Walk.

This is an hour's round trip walk (at a gentle pace) up to Worcestershire Beacon (35 mins, slightly uphill, 25 mins back, slightly more strenuous than normal) from Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14. There is free parking (courtesy of Key IQ Ltd's private car park for 30 cars), toilets, 2 local pubs with food, a local tea room and an ice cream van for refreshments. The views are stunning and worth the effort! It is a greyhound and lurcher event but all breeds on the walk are welcome. On completion of the walk we will return to The Bluebell pub where Sarah has kindly offerred to supply bacon or cheese butties for £1.50. Don't know where The Bluebell is, just follow one of us!
Please note it is a 10am start, rather than the usual 11am.

We are combining our presence at the Evershot Fair with the GBGW (as the dates have clashed). We will meet in the field car park supplied for the fair. The walk will take approx 90 mins and has moderate hills but we walk through some lovely countryside and the parkland of the Melbury Estate. After the walk please come along to the fair (£2.00 entry per adult), there will be refreshements available, hog roast, barbecue, ploughmans, teas and a bar. We will have GRWE merchandise on our stand.

GB Greyhound Walk Frampton

The Great British Greyhound Walk is an annual national event to raise awareness of sighthounds. Lots of walks throughout the country are organised on the same day.
GRWE are organising a walk at Frampton on Severn. Meet at The Bell Inn on the green at Frampton, free parking in the vicinity. The pub will be open from 9.30am for people to use the facilities. There will be a group photo at 9.45am and the walk will start at 10am.
The Green at Frampton is the largest in England, at 22 acres and has some very bizarre, attractive and impressive large houses/ follies and a manor for walkers to gaze at on their stroll around (shorter 25 min walk suitable for buggies / wheel chairs), and a slightly longer 45 min stroll on from the end of the green down to the local church and circle back round to green and pub.
The pub bar will open at 10:30 to serve hot drinks, cakes, deserts for etc. There is a great outdoor tarmac seating area with picnic benches , kids play area, and Barn with farm animals in for the children. We are also allowed to sprawl onto the Green and sit with the dogs/ drinks at the end (maybe pop a picnic blanket/ fold up garden chairs in your car for after the walk). We will have the GRWE merchandise stall with lots of gifts and goodies for both hounds and humans.
Please tell all your sighthound friends and help make this GBGW a memorable one, and raise awareness about what wonderful pets sighthounds make.

GRWE Glos Team are organising a smaller local walk in the Forest of Dean.
Meet at the Wenchford Picnic site car park at 11.00am. The walk will start at 11.15am after a quick photoshoot, along the forest trails on the opposite side of the road, so fairly quiet without cyclists, walkers and other dogs to distract our "keener" hounds. The walk takes about 45 minutes at a gentle pace and is fairly level walking. The walk will end up back at the car park for a picnic if the weather is kind.

GRWE will be running a tombola stall at Ampthill's Gala Day on the 7th July 2013.
Gala Day is a free community event which takes place on Sunday 7th July from 12.30pm to late afternoon in Ampthill Park. This is a day for relaxing, listening to great music, meeting up with friends and finding out about your local community groups and businesses.
A highlight of Gala Day is the Parade which passes through the town centre and arrives at the Park around 1.00pm. Prizes are presented to the best dressed groups by the Major and then we start our Arena shows on the cricket ground.
In the music arena there will be a whole afternoon of music by great local bands. A real festival feel.
There is also a fun fair and a good range of food stalls.

This is a lovely one day show that has grown over the years to become one of the largest 'one day' shows of its kind in the country. The show is held on a site of 140 acres, and represents a unique blend of traditional with the new in an agricultural setting where the emphasis is on agriculture and associated local activities first and foremost. It is a showcase for the best of local farming, crafts and rural skills. It draws exhibitors and visitors from all walks of life. Over 20,000 people attend the show and in the region of 1500 livestock entries are received. There are more than 350 trade exhibitors, which makes the show one of East Devon's biggest business events.

GRWE will be attending the 6th Greyhound Walks Show, and we’d love it if you could join us on this very special day.
Each and every year, our show gets bigger and better. The Greyhound Walks Show 2012 was a massive success and exceeded all expectations. I’m sure those who joined us last year would agree: we had a really spectacular day.
The showground at Great Notley Country Park is around 4 acres, which gives us plenty of space to bring fabulous events and stalls. This year will see the return of the Greyhound Walks Village.
The car park is adjacent to the showground, with space for around 800 cars (plus a second overflow car park if we need it. We’re inviting rehoming kennels and organisations to join us on this remarkable day.
As before, the Greyhound and Lurcher judging will be run as a fun show. In addition, and in a separate judging ring, we’ll be running a fun dog show for all other breeds of dog.
The country park is owned and operated by the Council, and therefore Pay and Display parking will be in operation. At present the charge is £3.00 for the day.
This year there is also a Grand Raffle with some fantastic prizes on offer. They are just £1 each !

Queenswood Arboretum is a delightful venue for a walk so why not come along and join us. We'll meet 10.30 for a prompt 11.00am start, walks are easy and take about 40 minutes.
All dogs welcome on the lead and this is a great opportunity for your dog to meet other hounds if they don't normally get the chance.
After join us at the cafe for a 'get together' and a raffle. It has to be said, the cafe does a really good breakfast.
Easy to find on A49, Dinmore Hill, near Lemonister. Plenty of free parking.

Glos Xmas playgroup

Moreton Valence, nr Gloucester
There will be a GRWE greyhound and lurcher "playgroup" and Xmas fundraiser in Moreton Valence on Sunday 1st December, starting at 11.30am - 3pm. The venue is Putloe Court Farm Equestrian centre, GL2 7ND and is on the A38 just south of Gloucester.
Entry will be £5 per person, kids are free, this includes refreshments and
the chance to let your sighthound/s off the lead in a safe enclosed environment to have a run with other dogs, in small groups. Entry fees will cover the arena hire and anything over will be donated to Greyhound Rescue West of England.
For safety, dogs will need to wear muzzles when they are running, and please be aware that cats may wander in to the stable yard.
We will have lots of GRWE and donated merchandise for sale, with gifts for humans, Christmas cards and everything you need for your hound. We will also have a raffle.
If you would like to attend, you will need to reserve a place and we may require payment up front to cover the cost of the arena hire. Please let me know if you would like to come along, how many dogs you will be bringing and how many cars in your party. I will send you directions, a map, and playgroup guidelines if you need it. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
