Greyhound Walk - Merseyside
21/03/2010
Calderstones Park
This is our first greyhound walk here at Calderstones Park. Named after the ancient megaliths situated in the park, which are said to be older than Stonehenge, it's a beautiful setting, whatever the weather. The other ancient landmark in Calderstones Park is the extraordinary Allerton Oak, also known as the Law Oak. It is claimed that 1000 years ago the Hundred Court sat under its spreading branches - the trunk is now hollow and its branches supported by stakes. We think a hundred greyhounds under there would be rather fab too!
So come and join us for a leisurely stroll around the park (an hour or so at 'chatting pace'), meeting outside the Manor House at 10.00am, with the walk starting at 10.30am. The cafe is a perfect spot for a cuppa when we get back and there'll be treats and a raffle too (and a chance to have a look round the gallery with local arts and crafts if you feel like a browse!)
There are car parks off Yew Tree Road and Calderstone Road. If this car park is full you are able to park on the road but please be mindful of local residents.
So whether you are a greyhound owner or not, come and join us for some fresh air and a natter. If you're a prospective hound owner, it's a perfect opportunity to come and talk to our current homes to find out what makes these super dogs quite so special :-)
We'd be very grateful for a 'Pound per hound' donation please and don't forget your poo bags too!!
Look forward to seeing you there...

Muzzles are essential and can be bought at the event or hired for small donation. Newly-adopted dogs and dogs that do not normally get the opportunity to run free are particularly welcome. Bring your cameras and camcorders, because if you have never experienced your greyhound running free you may well be reduced to tears! Have a catch up with old friends, and enjoy the company of like minded people.
Light refreshments available, £3.00 per dog payable on the door. Greyhound merchandise including collars, coats, tassels &, muzzles will be on sale. Convenient parking.
This is a really fun event for both hounds and owners, but there are some potential risks associated with multiple dogs running at high speed, so all attendees must have read, and fully understood our safety rules sheet before entry. All dogs must be booked in prior to the event and a booking form completed and returned to me by Sunday 25th April.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Wraxall
GRWE will be having a stand at this show. Volunteers and well behaved dogs needed to help morning and afternoon.
Please see the show website for further details
http://www.nsas.org.uk/index.ihtml
The countdown is on to the 151st North Somerset Show and as the pieces begin to fall into place, this year's show is looking to be as exciting and diverse as the last, if not more so!
Monday 3rd May this year brings with it a Show first, as we are very excited to introduce Shetlands to the Horse Show. Alongside old favourites such as the Sheep Show and the Pony Club Games, you'll find Livestock from pigs to llamas, children's entertainments and trade stands of all kinds.
For the mechanically minded, there's Tractor pulling, for those more interested in weapons, there's Axemen and Gun dogs, and for those who'd rather be at Crufts, a spot of terrier racing should be fine substitute!

Formby, Liverpool
This is GRWE’s first Collection and Awareness Day in the lovely village of Formby, so why not come along and join us? Whether you’re a greyhound owner already, or are thinking of getting one of these lovely hounds, it’s a great excuse to meet up for a chat and a canine cuddle!

Formby also has a large and beautiful beach, set against sand dunes and the famous National Trust pine woods – both are dog friendly, and there are many different paths and walks to take. Why not make a day of it!
Volunteers and well-behaved hounds are very welcome! Please let us know if you’re able to join us for a couple of hours, so we can work out a rota and appropriate Collecting location. (Please note that some parking in Formby is pay and display; Waitrose car park is for customers only.)

You could also go a step further and explore the lovely settings of the Palms which is home to numerous exotic creatures including snakes, Meerkats, parrots and more…………..
As usual we will have a Tombola, so why not buy a ticket, try your luck and help a greyhound at the same time? As always donations for tombola prizes are most welcome, so if you have any of those unwanted gifts you don’t know what to do with, anything would be gratefully received on the day.

Boggart Hole Clough, Lancs
Boggart Hole Clough Park, Charlestown Road,
Manchester M9 7DH
Meet at 10:30 am for the walk to commence at 11am.
This 190 acre park is part of ancient woodlands, steeped in history and home to the infamous boggart. If you and your hound would like to meet other humans and hounds to talk greyhounds and swop tips, experiences and stories in beautiful surroundings then come and join in our gathering. If you are considering having a greyhound as a pet and would like to know more about the breed, please come along and meet some of our glorious hounds. Kennel dogs still looking for their forever homes will also be in attendance to melt your heart.
Join us for a leisurely walk which will not follow the usual circular course but more of an irregular trapezoidal route with a spur. The walk will take an hour with pauses at three locations to take in points of local history and will culminate at the café overlooking the boating lake.
The Park offers a Visitor Centre, café, toilet facilities and free parking.
All dogs to be kept on leads and all poop to be scooped.
We are asking for £1 per hound donation. There will be water and treats supplied for all the dogs at the end of the walk.
Watch out for there may be a boggart about!

Newhall Greyhound Playgroup
04/07/2010
Newhall Equestrian Centre
Newhall Equestrian Yard, near the Killerton Estate, Broadclyst, Devon, EX5 3LW. Well-signposted and easy to reach from junction 28 or 29 of the M5
Come and watch as your greyhound lets off steam at a new playgroup to be held in the main indoor arena at this superb horse farm between Broadclyst and Cullompton. For safety, this is restricted to greyhounds and large sighthound crosses in small groups, and other breeds only if belonging to greyhound-families.
All dogs must be booked in prior to the event and a booking form completed and returned to me by Sunday 27th June.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

The organisers have very kindly offered us a stand at this event, so we shall be there with our merchandise, literature and a selection of hounds
This is the third year the event has been running and it is becoming increasingly popular.
The ethos of the event is to promote responsible dog ownership and although this is a serious and emotive subject it is tackled in both a serious and fun way (hence the Fun bit of the day).
They have local re-homing centres, local vets - who come along and give free advice, demos and fun classes and the Eastleigh Good Dog Test, all of which are very popular. The PDSA Pet Check Bus will be on site during the day and will be doing free doggie health checks. There will also be a flyball and scurry.

Christmas Greyhound Playgroup
28/11/2010
Newhall Equestrian Centre
Newhall Equestrian Yard, near the Killerton Estate, Broadclyst, Devon, EX5 3LW. Well-signposted and easy to reach from junction 28 or 29 of the M5
Come and watch as your greyhound lets off steam at a new playgroup to be held in the main indoor arena at this superb horse farm between Broadclyst and Cullompton. For safety, this is restricted to greyhounds and large sighthound crosses in small groups, and other breeds only if belonging to greyhound-families.
This is really fun event for both hounds and owners, but there are some potential risks associated with multiple dogs running at high speed, so all attendees must have read, and fully understood our safety rules sheet before entry. All dogs must be booked in prior to the event and a booking form completed and returned to me by Sunday 21st November.
As well as being great fun for the dogs and a nice social evening for you owners this will be the perfect opportunity for you to buy your Christmas cards and warm winter coats and snoods for your shivering skinnies! As this is a festive playgroup there will also be plenty of mulled wine and mince pies.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Could you help a greyhound in need?
Why not find out...
The Cheshire team will be gathering with the hounds outside WH Smith, near the entrance to Liverpool One. We'll be meeting at 10am until 4pm, and would love for you to come along and say hi!
Come along and see our wonderful greyhound sleigh being pulled through the streets of Liverpool.
The kennels hounds will be out and about in fancy dress, spreading the Christmas joy!
'All I want for Christmas is a 'forever' home' (a greyhound's wish) so please give the hounds a cuddle and make their day - and hopefully we'll be fulfilling some greyhound wishes too!

Dinmore Woods Dog Walk
19/12/2010
Dinmore Hill, Leominster
Queenswood Arboretum is always a popular venue, so with Santa hats and tinsle at the ready why not start the festive season with a walk around these lovely woods. We'll meet at 10.30 for a prompt 11.00am start, walks are easy and take about 40 minutes.
All dogs are welcome and this is a great opportunity for your dog to meet other hounds if they don't normally get the chance.
After join us at the cafe for a 'get together' and a Christmassy themed raffle. It has to be said that the cafe does a really good breakfast if you would like to treat yourself first or for brunch after, but this time don't do both, remember Christmas is just around the corner!!
£1.00 per family donation
